In the Heart of the Sea - not bad
I tried to watch it, but was actually surprised to find that I found the whale hunting scenes too disturbing. I know it's pretend of course, but I dunno... I just found that the fact they were presenting whale hunting in any way other than "this is HORRIFIC" upsetting enough for me to turn it off when they hit the first scene of that, so I actually haven't seen more than maybe half an hour of this film. I obviously have a serious soft spot about it. Which is weird, because I watch horrific, gory, disturbing movies all the time. It's just this one thing that I find too hard to watch in movies.

Yeah I know, as I was watching it I was wondering to myself if there are now any people who hunt whale legitimately for survival. I very much doubt it, perhaps nobody ever hunted them for that reason. Even my love for Cillian Murphy didn't stop me rooting for the whale!
  • Intermission - yes I am basically making my way through all of Cillian's films

Well the Inuit still hunt whales legitimately, supposedly using traditional methods (although a lot of them cheat in that regard and use modern methods). Of course most groups "support" this because of the politically correct aspect of aboriginal rights. Even Greenpeace gave up that argument ... I, however, have not. I think killing any whales is obscene this day and age - I don't care if it's a traditional practice or a legal right under First Nation agreements at all. They may as well be hunting humans as far as I'm concerned.

Such an innocuous rape scene in that one.

Lol. Yeah, some of the content is definitely dated to say the least. The way they treat sex in this movie is fucked up, and it's good that such portrayals aren't appropriate anymore (and even at the time i recall thinking it was messed up). However, I don't hold shit like this against old movies, because there is no point.
