    The Shape of Water

Really solid film.  Sally Hawkins might get nominated for an oscar.  I kinda want to revisit Pan's Labyrinth now. Haven't seen that one in years.

was pretty decent I thought, if it's anywhere near the truth, she had a fucked up life. Not that it gave her a right to do what she did

Quite possibly my favorite film this year.  Really really Good!  Will probably garner a few Oscar nominations I would think/hope.

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Not bad, but I’m really starting to wish Lucas hadn’t sold the franchise. How many notes are they going to hit from the original trilogy? Won’t say any more here, I’ll take it over to the Star Wars thread, lol.

For future knowledge....if the movie stars James Franco and Seth Rogen then yes Marijuana must he part of the viewing experience.

    The Hurt Locker

Missed this one when it came out originally.  Finally saw it last night.  It was good.  Don't think it would have been my favorite (or would have thought it would win best picture) from '09.  But then again not too many good movies came out that year if i remember correctly.

    Let's Play Two, finally!

I really enjoyed it. I have zero interest in baseball but the Cubs World Series story made the news all over the world, and anything involving Pearl Jam and Danny Clinch is always going to be good.

    Downsizing

Liked it but felt there were some unexplained plot points. Maybe left on the editing room floor.

    Revenge of the Nerds

Fantastic movie - has always been one of my faves.
My college basketball team identified ourselves as the nerds in that movie lol.

    An all time classic.

  • I went Christmas night to see Darkest Hour. Highly recommend it!  It’s an interesting take on both Winston Churchill’s bullish, public persona as well as the vulnerable, private side during his first month as Prime Minister - an important and crucial time during World War II not only for England but all of Europe. Gary Oldman was absolutely spectacular as Winston. Whoever did the makeup pulled off one of the best, most convincing transformations I’ve ever seen. Had I not known it was Oldman, I never would have guessed. Also pretty sure I’m now in love with Lily James, who played his secretary, Elizabeth Layton.
