I watched Wonder Woman last night -- it was disapppointing. The movie needed more actual badass women in combat scenes and less CGI; I really felt that the movie was better, more creative, and more imaginative before men literally came crashing onto the scene. "All-American type fights (proto)Nazis" is starting to feel like a threadbare trope, too.
I took my 11 year old daughter to see this. I was disappointed that until the men showed up it was nothing but half naked women who were all in amazing shape training and fighting.
That's funny; my husband sat through that whole part and just kept saying "You're in better shape than any of those women." I think I'll keep him.
But that's what I liked about it -- strong, athletic women kicking ass. (I think that's what my husband and sons liked about it too, LOL. I guess I'll keep all of them.) When the action moves to Europe, WW is pretty much the only female character. The secretary is a caricature of a frumpy, uptight Englishwoman, and the evil scientist, while female, has no backstory, few lines, and is disfigured (ugly = bad, super-hot = good?), but we don't know why.
I'm looking forward to "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women." I hope it gives us fully-developed female characters (although it might not be suitable for an eleven-year-old).
I've made this point before, and it highlights just how far we have yet to go when it comes to rewarding physical beauty. we are STILL, in this day and age, dumbing down entertainment for the masses and insulting their intelligence because studios still think we can't think of someone who is "ugly" as a good character (except in few cases, probably which are all men anyway-think Deadpool). if a woman is frumpy, she has to be a funny character. if a woman is ugly, she has to be the evil character. yet, good looking women can be all three.
why does our entertainment have to have such a shiny gloss on it all the time when it comes to females?
It was good. Probably the best Thor movie out there and somewhere in the middle of the avengers movies. Stay til past the credits

It's pretty much fucking stupid. Glaring plot holes, and just a Groundhog Day rip off, but she is killed at the end of each day instead of going to sleep. Although they at least had the decency to make a joke about Groundhogs Day, and acknowledged that it wasn't their idea. They also made a valiant attempt at a surprise ending. I guess it worked on me, although I never think forward when I watch a movie, so just about every movie is a surprise ending for me, lol. Predictability or lack thereof isn't a very important feature for me personally. Also, there is a semi-decent sense of humour about the whole thing I suppose. Kinda sorta.

Watched the 2nd half of John Wick: Chapter 2 last night while flipping away during TNF commercials/halftime. Put all of the super long "I shoot everyone on planet earth" scenes on FF and it made it much better. I kind of liked the first one, found this to be just silly. (I did enjoy the last act.)

Hidden Figures. I enjoyed it, it's a pretty incredible story. I still find it hard to get my head around just how much colored/white segregation there still was in the 60s. Yes, this was a "Hollywood" take on it, but I thought it was pretty good.
