I think that is only speaking to the 2009 season
My bad, I meant next year specifically when I responded to MrB's post as I assumed he meant 2009. Hopefully we have it again for 2010.

How tight is the pack going to be with standardized engines and no David Coulthard to smash into/blame people?

    hahahaha, nice one :p
I wouldn't go overseas to see F1 unless that greedy prick pays my way.

Although on that note I'm as big a hockey fan now as I ever was.

Yeah, Im starting to feel that way, although I could do Japan on the cheap-but the time of year is a tough one for me.

I am just coming back to hockey. Slowly. I still havent gotten over the whalers moving south. :D

Moving a team (unless they're already in Florida) isn't right.
I'll keep watching races on TV and guess I will have to settle for that until 2010 :p

Working on a solution for 2009 and beyond

A delegation is heading to London this week in a bid to save the axed Canadian Grand Prix.

Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay will accompany a Quebec province minister, Raymond Bachand, as well as the Canadian federal minister of international trade Michael Fortier, as they meet with Bernie Ecclestone on Thursday, the Montreal radio station CJAD said.

"What we will be discussing is a business deal," Tremblay is quoted as saying by the Canadian business newspaper Financial Post.

"If we do nothing, it is gone."

Fortier said Canada has a five-year contract to stage the Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

"There are three years left on it," he noted. "I believe on the basis of the contract we can move forward."

"It is a surprise to me that we've come to this situation. We will do whatever we can to see that the Grand Prix stays in Montreal," Fortier stated.

    Let's see what happens.

Clarification Note from Grand Prix F1 du Canada
    Racing series F1
    Date 2008-10-20

    REGARDING ALLEGATIONS FROM BERNIE ECCLESTONE

Montreal - Contrary to allegations made by Bernie Ecclestone regarding money owed by Grand Prix F1 du Canada for past hosting rights, the organizers of the Canadian Round of the Formula 1 World Championship would like to make clear that Mr. Ecclestone has received and accepted the terms of payment that were fully agreed to for the 2006 and 2007 events. According to Paul Wilson, Vice-President Marketing Grand Prix du Canada: "It is totally untrue to suggest that our organization has defaulted on payments owed for the past three years."

As reported this past week, Mr. Wilson continued: "It is true that we have a commercial disagreement regarding our monetary obligations, but only for 2008. This is the result of an historical difference within the contractual understanding between the two parties. We were working hard to resolved the matter in order to meet our 2008 obligations when Mr. Ecclestone, without notice, surprised everyone by unilaterally dropping the Canadian Grand Prix from the 2009 FIA schedule last October 7."

"We believe that it is important to shed the light on this matter and to clarify any allegations that could tarnish the reputation of our organization. We do not accept that the integrity of the Grand Prix du Canada should be called into question, when it is evident that the table is being set for new negotiations with different levels of the Canadian government," concluded Mr. Wilson.

Bring that fucker to court and force him to hold the race under the terms of the contract.

The future of the Canadian Grand Prix could be decided on Friday, when the Montreal government are set to announce whether they will provide vital funding for the race.

Earlier this month it was announced that the event had been dropped from the calendar, with F1 commercial rights controller Bernie Ecclestone claiming that organisers owed him money for previous races.

Government officials nevertheless met with Ecclestone last week in the hope of finding a solution that would see the race, held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, reinstated.

However, in order for that to happen both funding and a new race promoter will be needed.

According to The Montreal Journal, Canadian fans can expect to find out some time on Friday whether or not funding will be granted by the Montreal government.

    THERE IS STILL HOPE

    THERE IS STILL HOPE
(this is opinion based, not fact based: ) most likely back in 2010, but it'd be nice in 2009.
Force India boss might be going with McLaren engine/drivetrain next year instead of Ferrari because Ferrari might not be able to provide all of the engine, transmission and drivetrain like he wants.

    Go Felipe!

LONDON (AFP) - Lewis Hamilton's bid to become Formula One champion has been soured by a Spanish website targeting the McLaren driver with vitriol and racist abuse.

The website, called Pincha la Rueda de Hamilton (Burst Hamilton's Tyre) invites visitors to place a virtual nail on the track at Interlagos, the setting for Sunday's title showdown with Felipe Massa in the Brazil Grand Prix.

The site carries a message board directing abuse at the 23-year-old Briton, who only needs to finish in the top five to claim the 2008 title

I read about this in the paper this morning

After what happened in Barcelona as well ... I think (hope) he's strong enough to use this in a positive way to fire his own ambition.

Spain seems to have a lot of problems with this ... English football players were targeted a few years ago as well http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4024167.stm
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?
