Giants fan unite- this is the official thread of the World Champs!

So the season is still over four months away but the draft is coming up and the schedule is out.

Why not start discussing the best football team in the world now!?!

Initial thoughts of mine: the last draft won us our championship- how big of an impact will this one have? I feel that we need to work on defense first. And NO trading up thats for sure. Heres the draft needs: http://www.nfl.com/draft/tracker;jsessi ... m|team-nyg

Also, does anyone else think we should just go ahead and get rid of Shockey? Just let Eli be the leader and leave this self-centered asshole find a new team. And this is coming from a one time Shockey worshipper.

One final thing for now, the schedule doesnt look to be that bad to me.

2008 Schedule (REGULAR SEASON)

Not even three posts into your new season's thread, and I'd like to welcome the Giants fans to the official, "You're on top, so out come the haters" club ... welcome. The haters can suck it. Just keep enjoying being the defending world champs.

Nice run for your team ... and a well played superbowl.

    I hope for a rematch.

I have to admit because of that nice comment I feel kind of bad for hating on the Patriots so badly haha. Well you guys had 3 in a short time and it looked like the fourth was on its way. This is only one.

We'll see what happens this year. Honestly, I'm looking forward for the rest of the team to be haters- that means we'd be having a good year. Either way last year's championship can't be taken away.

    Linebacker, linebacker, linebacker, linebacker, linebacker.

DRAFT A FUCKING PLAY MAKING LINEBACKER!

They have zero playmakers at linebacker. Throw in a playmaker at that position and the defense is complete (well, after you replace Wilson as S).

All this talk of cornerback and slot receiver is driving me nuts. The team has 20 WR and two very good young corners.

    Then a Safety.

    For good measure....FUCK THE PATRIOTS!

Also, this talk of trading Shockey is nuts. The guy is a very good TE that is not by a long shot easily replaceable. Gilbride needs to come up with plays that put him in space, not doubled on every play. I say line him up as the slot receiver more often. Its what they did his first few years. he would be going up againt the 3rd DB who would most likely be much smaller and less physical.

Eli and crew had one great month and they're lucky it came in late December, January and the Superbowl.

I bet you nearly 80% of the Giants fans were calling for Eli's head after his debacle Monday night performance against the Vikings in New Jersey.

Of course we were pissed he threw too many picks. But that doesnt mean we wanted a new quarterback. Eli doesnt read the negative press- and thats what made him great this offseason (only one pick and it was the reciever's fault). True we had one great- and thats the month that matters most!

First of all we got to the playoffs, then we were the best. What else can you ask for? Yea we didn't have the best record during the year- well guess what we didnt need it.

This thread was meant for Giants fans but if the haters want to keep coming here and crying about how we won and their team didnt I'm fine with that.

Initially, I'm not really a Giants-hater but am a Manning-hate, Peyton and ELi, still am. It's because of Peyton. Elder Manning did knock Brady and Co. off the playoff two seasons ago and then Eli won this past January's Superbowl over NE, yet the Patriots are able to dominate the rest of the league but not those two. So you can see the frustration.

Brady, Moss, and Crew better get the job done for the Superbowl 43 season!!!

i see where you are coming from. its crazy to think that two brothers won super bowls back to back. and talk about frustration- the giants have caused me so much stress in my short life so far lol.

the collapse against the niners a couple of years back, being shutout by the panthers in eli and coughlin's first playoff game, starting 6-2 and ending 8-8, and then starting this last season 0-2- im still shocked at how they came back.

I'm only shocked by Eli's performance in the last two months. The Giants defense has always been there since even in 2000 when they made it to the Superbowl, it's their offense that's always been questionable.

Though, in retrospective, I think Tiki Barber was the biggest loser of all. After he criticized Eli for months and months and then Eli won the big won.

The Manning's basically erased New England's chances of having 5 rings in this decade, if you think about it. Most of the Pats already have a ring or two or three...I guess you can't have everything. Hopefully the Celtics will erase all the memories from Superbowl 42.

DRAFT A FUCKING PLAY MAKING LINEBACKER!

keith rivers is the only LB i really like in round one, and he probably won't be there at #31. i guess i couldn't argue with dan connor, curtis lofton, or jerod mayo in the first round. connor's problem is that he struggles in pass coverage, and that's already the giants' main weakness.

maybe erin henderson or xavier adibi will still be around at the end of second round. after that, i like ali highsmith, beau bell, tavares gooden, and ezra butler.
    Then a Safety.

if kenny phillips or reggie smith are available at #31, i think the giants would have to go in that direction. dajuan morgan might still be around at the end of the second round...

this really isn't a very deep class for safeties, but it is a deep class for CBs. so the strategy might be to draft a CB that they can turn into a safety.
Also, this talk of trading Shockey is nuts. The guy is a very good TE that is not by a long shot easily replaceable. Gilbride needs to come up with plays that put him in space, not doubled on every play. I say line him up as the slot receiver more often. i agree 100%. there is no reason to get rid of shockey. nobody cared about his attitude before he got hurt... so why now?

they wouldn't have made the playoffs without him. he's still an offensive weapon and his presence draws defenders away from burress, smith, and toomer. much of kevin boss' success was due to the fact that opposing defenses didn't have to gameplan for him like they would have for shockey.

shockey is also a much better blocker than people give him credit for. the team's rushing output decreased by nearly two yards per carry after he got hurt (despite the emergence of ahmad bradshaw).

eli is already the leader of the offense. shockey's presence won't change that at this point. eli has said that he wants shockey back, anyway.

I say GIANTS vs PATRIOTS in a rematch and this time the Patriots take em down. Didn't 2 same teams play in back to back Super Bowls?

Props to the G-men but it won't happen again. :)

Yeah, Shockey is a very good TE with the ability to be a Gonzalez type. Athletic, big, and strong. He just needs to stay healthy (turf toe, back, ankle, etc).

I think a large part of the drop in YPC was a combination of Shockey getting hurt and Ward getting hurt.

Ward is the forgotten Giant this season. Everyone makes a big deal about Bradshaw, and there is nothing wrong with that as the guy has very quick feet and will be good, but Ward had a hell of a year until he got hurt that nobody seems to remember. The Jacobs/Ward combo was fantastic. I am glad they signed him to one more year.

And, I saw the post where Patriot fan bet that everyone jumped off the Eli bandwagon after the viking game. If you know anything about football you didnt. I said to everyone at that time that his brother, Brady, Montana, Elway, Bradshaw, Marino, etc have all had their fair share of games like that. It happens in this league.

I was a bit pissed however after the Skins Sunday night game. That was frustrating and I happened to be there. He looked horrible that night. However, again, I think this was mostly Gilbrides fault. Passing 50+ times in a fucking windstorm/blizzard/hail/rain? That was just dumb. Very poor gameplan. Thank God they got back to the run in the coming weeks (especially against Buffalo when they were down but kept running in the second half). This team won the superbowl in spite of their head coach and offensive coordinator.

Shockey is a really good player and you can tell he pours his heart out on the field. but the way he acted during this year's playoffs was inexcusable. he felt embarrassed and didn't even want to show up to the superbowl- are you kidding me?

you are part of the team shockey and you played most of the regular season. leave your ego behind already.

I agree go after a LB. Might have to trade up...

As far as "cocky" Shockey goes, I can live with him or without him. I don't mind keeping him but if they can get a good draft pick for him then go for it.

Here is my very early prediction:

    2008 Schedule
    Week 1: Washington - Win - 1-0
    Week 2: @ St. Louis - Win - 2-0
    Week 3: Cincinnati - Win - 3-0
    Week 5: Seattle - Loss - 3-1
    Week 6: @ Cleveland - Win - 4-1
    Week 7: San Francisco - Win -5-1
    Week 8: @ Pittsburgh - Loss 5-2
    Week 9: Dallas - Loss - 5-3
    Week 10: @ Philadelphia - Loss 5-4
    Week 11: Baltimore - Win - 6-4
    Week 12: @ Arizona - Win - 7-4
    Week 13: @ Washington - Win - 8-4
    Week 14: Philadelphia - Win - 9-4
    Week 15: @ Dallas - Loss - 9-5
    Week 16: Carolina - Win - 10-5
    Week 17: @Minnesota - Loss - 10-6

Finish 10-6 and get a Wild Card spot.

Oh, and they will always be THE NEW JERSEY GIANTS!! Let NY keep the Jets.
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?

well i must say im pretty happy with the draft. got the safety we wanted and a couple of other really good players.

and think of this: bradshaw fell pretty low in last year's draft because of marijuana and he did GREAT for us.

now manningham did the same thing....

I loved the Giants draft. Phillips is going to be a future stud and Manningham in the 3rd is a downright fleece. If he can keep his head on straight he is going to be awesome. Can't wait "Manning to Manningham for the TD!!!"

I think they drafted ok. I love the Phillips pick. You usually can't go wrong picking a baller from Miami. I liked rounds 3 thru 6 BUT I hated round 2.
Dan Connor was still sitting there. They should've grapped him with the last pick in rd 2. He went shortly after.
    PJ - 36
    EV - 5

True but they did address the LB in the 4th and 5th with Kehl and Goff. Plus they still have Pierce and healthy Kiwanuka to hold the fort. And Wilkinson will be a good little player. I am going to miss Mitchell and Torbor though.
