fine...do it...but make it the max amount of years...and while you're at it max out Howard..i dont want to see these guys leaving
I agree with extending Hamels.
Howard - I'm not too sure I want to make more than a 4 or 5 year investment in. I think his rbi numbers are inflated by the number of guys on base before him. His OPS has dropped 20% over the last two years and his batting average by 50 points. Plus he is 29 and already mediocre at best in the field. I can see him having maybe 4 more stellar seasons but I'd be wary signing him to anything more long term than that. It's an interesting decision for the Phils this offseason. If they don't sign him to a long term deal, I see Howard walking in two years.
If I had to guess it should be Wednesday because the players want to go home to their families as soon as possible, but knowing the city of Philadelphia and all the work that is going to have to take place to set up and secure a parade route for what would be the largest parade in Philadelphia history, I'm going to guess Thursday.
It's too bad JFK stadium isn't around anymore, because I'm trying to guess where the final stop at the rally will be because I doubt the Eagles let the Phillies use their stadium to hold a rally.
But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Still got to play the game tonight.
I could see the rally being in the parking lot outside the Bank... or even over at FDR park.... but it would be something special to have it in one of the stadiums...

I could see them doing it at Franklin Field too - just have the parade go up Broad and then down Market Street. But I can only imagine the nightmare of trying to get out of University City afterwards.

True but that would be a nightmare for Penn, its students, faculty, and everyone going to the rally...

Well, the Eagles have to man up now don't they and swallow some pride. I know Penn is rooting for the Phils to win tonight because Saturday is their homecoming and they don't want their activities to be affected by a potential Saturday parade.

Andy Reid said some nice words for the Phils during his press conference yesterday..and Donovan wrote in his blog that he wants nothing better than to see the Phillies do what his team couldnt in 2004...bring Philadelphia a championship!

Yeah, it's not the player's and coaching staff, but the organization that's been the douches.
It's funny because 7 years ago the image of both teams were the exact opposite. It used to be that the Phils front office was incompetent and the such. And now it's the exact opposite. Kinda bizarre really.

I know. I remember I went to a Penn Princeton game in 2003 at the Palestra and through my buddy who works as a fundraiser for Rendell wound up sitting behind the gov and next to Dave Montgomery. I basically lived every fan's dream and made all my complaints directly to the owner of the team - politely of course throughout the course of the game. And to Montgomery's credit he admitted the Phils had screwed up a lot in their decisions and were going to turn things around. He also told me to send my resume to the Phils and asked if I ever thought of working in baseball. (Montgomery loves Penn guys - see Ed Wade and two of my friends currently work in the ticketing department. I never did send in a resume though ... lol)
I just never thought they'd turn it around this fast.

Ah, man, do it up! I would kill to work for a sports organization - let alone my team. Yeah, but with the Phils, I hear they're gonna name Ruben Amaro the GM when all is said and done. And I think that's stupid because Arbuckle should be the man since he's the one responsible for Hamels, Rollins, Howard, Utley, Victorino, and Myers. Amaro, to me, is nothing but a kiss-ass.
And I thought Wade went to Temple? Graduate school at Penn?

Never took them. Just went to Penn undergrad and been working ever since.
I have to ask.. was it me or were fans actually boo-ing Patti LaBelle (rightly so) for her bastardized rendition of the national anthem.... I couldn't really tell since I wasn't watching with surround sound till the 3rd inning.

I'm really not sure if I can make it through this day...I am seriously about to jump out of my skin! This game means so much to so many in this city..100+ years of baseball and only 1 championship to show for it...this is HUGE! my nephew was 1 year old the last time the Phillies went to the World Series in '93, I was 6 the last time they won the World Series which is the same year my fiance was born. I remember sitting in my friends living room on his couch watching joe carter hit that HR...i was crushed...i was seriously scarred at that moment. We've had our hearts broken in '83 against the Orioles, '85 and '87 with the Flyers against Edmonton, '97 Flyers against the Red Wings, '01 Sixers against the Lakers, '04 Eagles against the Patriots, not to mention all the NFC, Eastern Conference, and Divisional Playoff games...I can honestly say the only other time I felt so good about a team was...well....never! These are our boys! this is our time! Rollins, Utley, Howard, Werth, Dobbs, Victorino, Burrell, Ruiz! Hamels, Myers, Moyer, Blanton, Madson, Lidge! These names will forever be remembered in this city...these are out champions and they've done nothing but make us proud. I can never repay them for this feeling..I can never offer more thank yous..I may never cry more tears for a sport...I know my brother is up in heaven and looking down on Citizens Bank Park saying the same thing.."Just one more guys..just one more"
I have to ask.. was it me or were fans actually boo-ing Patti LaBelle (rightly so) for her bastardized rendition of the national anthem.... I couldn't really tell since I wasn't watching with surround sound till the 3rd inning.
i was boo'ing silently at home, does that count? that was awful.
