We're talking about tits in public. And all tits start as sex objects before they become baby feeders. If woman want to whip 'em out at a store to feed their kids (when I know they make breast pumps for the times when whipping them out is inappropriate), then don't be offended when woman choose to wear pasties and skimpy bikinis at coffee stands. They are at least covering their nipples.

Breast pumps are not "for the times when whipping them out is inappropriate". They are mostly used by women who work outside the home and have to pump the milk that builds up during the day. Also, they are used to feed babies who are unable to suck. It has nothing to do with what you believe is inappropriate, lol.

How can you equate a woman wearing pasties or bikinis at coffee stands? Breastfeeding is how mammals feed their infants. Pasties are for sexual purposes.

Well you have loads of nerve endings in yours as well. Why don't people get up in arms if a man shows his nips? Cause they're not as sexualized. It's the meaning that you apply to these things. And yeah - if I saw a guy fondling a girls' tits at H&M I would be shocked (and might stop and stare) :D but a mom breastfeeding? yeah...not so much :)
You don't got to tell me about my own nipples! :D

And I agree, woman should be able to go topless too. And don;t pretend as though it is only men who made tits sex objects. I would say it was a natural human evolution. Like you've never fondled your own while masturbating.

Sorry - but you are wrong. Sure, practical purposes that's their only "function." But you know as well as I do that that is a load of shit. Tits, nipples especially have loads of nerves that work well with SEX. And you have to have SEX before you can breast feed, right? So, they do start as sex boobs before they turn into baby feeding boobs.

This is the silliest argument I've ever heard...lol.

Yes, pasties cover nipples...and decorate the breast for the purpose of sexual titillation.

I am not talking about feeding your child. Don't confuse the issue. I am talking about you whipping your tits out in public. Feed your child in public all you want. Use one of these ahead of time. Planning is everything.

What does it matter why the woman wear the bikinis and pasties, it is their personal choice, is it not?

I don't understand your last statement or question.

Again, my only point (and it is a very local and current issue where I live) is that if you want to breastfeed in public, that's fine. Just stop bitching (again, not you personally) about the young hot woman scantily-clad selling coffee.

my BREASTFED child requires only my BREAST. thats the planning i chose. to have it at the ready when required.

now personally, i dont complain about scantily clad girls selling coffee. i only wonder what their thinking is in making themselves such an object of titillation to the simple male who gets off on such things. what exactly is the point of putting yourself on display in this manner at this particular venue? to me that is inappropriate. but then again i dont drink coffee. :D

You and your nipples are close personal friends? :p

I never said men made tits sex objects - i said the only reason this is even an issues is because they've been sexualized...and I agree - by men and women. But flashing your tits to arouse someone and breastfeading your child are 2 totally different issues.

Oh - and nice try on trying to get me to detail my masturbation habits...but you couldn't handle it ;):D

    they aren't, though.

As another posted pointed out, the breast is mostly covered by the baby's head and the rest is easily covered by fabric.

What's wrong with tits hanging out, anyway? Don't you like tits? :p

yes... i love tits... if its not a sexual organ theres no reason to cover it up IMO... but we need to ween off tit taboo... you cant just go from tits are socially unacceptable to protesting that tits should be acceptable wherever ya want... baby steps people! if you allow this public breast feeding how do you know everyone would be as modest as you suggest and how do we know that everyone is as comfortable about tits as you and i... in all honesty, depending on peoples upbringing, religion, etc theres definitely alot of people uncomfortable about it...

Oh I know there are tons of people uncomfortable with it. The only way people are going to get over it is being exposed to it. They just need some good, old-fashioned desensitizing...lol. That's why I think people should just feed their babies whenever they want, and if someone has a problem...too bad.

i say we begin the desensitizing process with the next PJ tour... no shirts allowed! :D (we'll make an exception for mosquito bite girls since we know ed has a problem with that)

I remember when I had a newborn and a two year old, (my first two sons) and I went for a walk and it was a bit far from my home, but I had a double stroller and so both kids were in it. My newborn son, was breastfeeding (I breastfead all my babies) and as a newborn, he was still on demand feeding. Which means that you don't really give them a schedule but reasonably, when they cry that hungry cry ( as you find out soon after being a mom there is a difference; hungry cry, tired cry, oh my God it's gas cry,(shrieking cry). wet diaper cry (which is not really too different only you can kind of weed all other reasons and figure that one out), so I had no idea to plan when he would eat again. I fed him before we left but like two hours later he was hungry because he did what newborns do and fell asleep and never really got full I guess.

So I stop in a maternity store with this crying baby and a twenty month old big brother, and think they will be kind enough to let me in the dressing room with both of them, let me feed this crying baby in private and I would be on my way. The woman tells me no. So I walk all the way home with this little tiny hungry crying baby who is now upsetting his 20 month old brother who has no idea what the hell this kid is even doing here behind him in this stroller much less why it so noisy, and I am about to cry as well from the stress and being unable to help either one. So after I got home and fed the baby and all were calm, I called the store and talked to the manager and told her that it was quite hypocritical for a maternity store to be so cold to moms and screaming newborns. She gave me some lame ass answer about stealing from stores, which was lame ass because I would have gladly let her check the stroller, diaper bag, whatever the hell she wanted when I was done feeding him, and that was that.

That was total bullshit. I was not imposing on anyone. Some women can quietly feed their babies and not impose upon anyone; they should have the right to feed them.

then there are the other wack jobs who whip it out, look at you in your face, don't even use a small baby blanket to cover the exposed areas, and are pigs to me. I have fed in public; sometimes you can't help it really, but I have never just whipped it out so to speak and been rude about it.

I wonder how many of these women were justly complaining as in my first example and how many were just ranting for the fuck of it.

    wow,...........now I am ranting........hormones............damn

A baby needs what it needs when it needs it. You can create a schedule for them, but they aren't programmable little robots. And, as catefrances pointed out, just because you have a child doesn't mean you have the obligation (or the luxury) to stay home. Life goes on.

As far as having a backup supply...you do what you can, but you can only make so much milk. It's not always possible to have "extra" milk to take with you. And some breastfed babies reject the bottle anyway. That is why mothers do have a *legal* right to breastfeed whenever and wherever necessary.

You can make all the plans you want about caring for an infant, but they are really the ones in charge.

All I'm getting at, is that I think there are probably more practical places to breastfeed a baby than in the middle of a busy clothing store. I don't know what H&M is like in the states, but over here it's a really busy shop absolutely crammed with racks of clothes, there's barely any room to move at all. The only real seating area would be in the changing rooms; and really can a baby not wait two minutes for you to finish paying for your clothes, or could you not feed your baby before you go into the shop? There are plenty of practical sollutions to this scenario.

Why should a woman have to pump milk and take bottles with her? Mum's are already so busy and exhausted and pumping milk and sterilising bottles take up unnecessary time when women are perfectly designed to do the job  ... nothing against women who decide breast feeding isn't for them.

Also newborns can be feeding every couple of hours ... sometimes more often ... which if women were to plan their schedule to ensure they weren't going to breast feed in public would make them prisoners in their own homes other than a quick trip to a grocery store or something. If you are going clothes shopping ... the whole trip to go shopping, shopping trip home is gonna involve at least one feed.

Most women I know who have breast fed thought they would be uncomfortable with breast feeding in public but it is something they soon get used to ... as it should be the needs of their baby comes above what anyone thinks. I think it's more of a problem with our society that they have been raised so that they even think they will be uncomfortable.

Yeah maybe H&M isn't ideal ... most of the women I know would head for a cafe or a bench to feed ... but when needs must.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

dear moms who think it's ok to breast feed in public....

what about those moms who still breast feed toddlers? should they go in the changing room? i've read there are some children around 4 years ago still being breast fed.

Well this is what I'm talking about with the attachment parenting thing - who is really benefitting, the mother or the child?
