from what i can gather with my limited iq :D, haha...there will be a number of new weight categories, but we'll have to see if they're adopted by each regulatory body first.

so i saw this posted after the article, but i'm not sure if these are the correct ones or how reliable the info is...

    The fourteen weight classes include:

    flyweight (up to 105 lbs)
super flyweight (over 105.1 to 115 lbs)
bantamweight (over 115.1 to 125 lbs)
super bantamweight (over 125.1 to 135 lbs)
featherweight (over 135.1 to 145 lbs)
lightweight (over 145.1 to 155 lbs)
super lightweight (over 155.1 to 165 lbs)
welterweight (over 165.1 to 175 lbs)
super welterweight (over 175.1 to 185 lbs)
middleweight (over 185.1 to 195 lbs)
super middleweight (over 195.1 to 205 lbs)
light heavyweight (over 205.1 to 225 lbs)
heavyweight (over 225.1 to 265 lbs)
    super heavyweight (over 265.1 lbs)

oh, and good luck on the picks for tomorrow, ceg. they are tough!!! :)

seems like too many to me.... you're going to have a "champion" for each one of those categories??? that seems weird.... i don't see what the big deal is... these guys gain and lose 10 pounds at the drop of a hat! call me crazy, but i foresee fighters holding the "title" for 3 weightclasses at a time! :p

thanks for luck on the picks... i need it! i have to get them in tonight.... i can't decide if i want to "reverse-psychologize" the Rampage/Forrest fight, like i did for Amir & CB. I want Forrest to win, but I might have to pick Rampage for that to happen! ;):D

that's one thing that is troubling and i think it became a problem for boxing too...the weight class jumping. they may use 7.5 lbs. intervals, though. it's hard to find the happy medium between a healthy weight cut and a reasonable difference between weights to prevent people from jumping around.

as far as the ufc goes, if these weight classes are instituted, then it means only three more champions for them, since they will only have to add the super LW, super WW and super MW divisions.

    we shall see...:)

:D @ "reverse-psychologize" very nice. hey, if it worked last time...;)

  • Ok picks are locked in.

My only big upset pick is Mccully over Gonzaga.

This should be another good card.

we'll see how this pans out, the fight i'm least confident about is the Cote/Almeida fight. I really think almeida is going to catch patrick in a choke but i'm hoping cote has improved his ground game and can defend the tackdown. If so, i don't see cote finishing almeida so a decision it is.

Thanks for the thing about the new rules, the addition of downward elbows is a great addition. Any word on knees to the head??? I really don't mind the new weight classes that much. The new MW and LHW classes are going to create some great fights.

I also have some good news... i'm going to be in vegas for the july 19th show. Me and my dad decided that we are going to take a trip to vegas leaving that day, unfortunatly the prices is crazy (209 is the cheapest seat "insert stunned smiley" and i really don't think that card is worth it yet). So i'm atleast going to take the $210 and bet on the fights lol. Hopefully i'll go to some of the pre fight things and after parties to :)

oh and mookie, you're wrong.... thom yorke has taught me that 2+2=5 :)

  • nice one, leafs. :D

congrats on the trip! that's awesome! you might be able to catch the weigh-ins at least if you're there in time. maybe meet a couple more fighters. :)

yeah, the new weight divisions seem to be getting a mixed reaction but we'll see how it plays out. it's all a work in progress! as you said, it certainly mixes things up in terms of potentially intriguing matches.

no knees yet, unfortunately. oh, and covering the mouth of your opponent to inhibit their breathing is also now an illegal move. that's one i'd always hoped they'd put in. i can't remember if there were any other significant ones.

good luck on the picks! can't wait for five more hours!!! haha
