Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (Pictures) has agreed to face undefeated Lyoto Machida (Pictures) on the UFC's May 24 card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Talk of a potential Ortiz-Machida bout began earlier this month. Ortiz (15-5-1) confirmed Monday on Fight Network Radio that he would fulfill his current contract with Zuffa against the 29-year-old Brazilian.
"The Huntington Beach Bad Boy," who turns 33 on Wednesday, competed only once in 2007, fighting to a hotly disputed draw with TUF 2 victor Rashad Evans (Pictures). The former 205-pound champion has more recently been seen as part of the cast of Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC.
The once-enigmatic Machida went from curiosity to contender in 2007, winning each of his four fights. Machida (12-0) punctuated his '07 campaign with a domination of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (Pictures) in the Octagon in December.
The Ortiz-Machida fight will likely serve as the co-feature for the May 24 UFC card, alongside the lightweight title bout between current lightweight champion B.J. Penn (Pictures) and former champion Sean Sherk (Pictures).
lbc, we only picked one winner differently! i went with cote and you've got mcfedries. our methods of victory are a little different in the matches, but 8 out of 9 the same for the winners. good luck!
85 is shaping up nicely, and that is an interesting match up with machida and tito. such drastically different styles, and it could certainly put tito right back on top with a victory after his time off. you must be excited to see him back! it's the last fight on his contract, though, so for you i hope they can come to terms on a new agreement. he doesn't sound very happy with the money they've offered him from what i've read, but a win over lyoto would certainly give him some more bargaining power in that department.
Hey Mook, I gotta start following your picks, your kicking ass!! Boston was alot of fun, as I had never been to a hockey game at the new place.

Speaking of the Tito fight, I really hope it's not his last one in the UFC that would really suck. Im not sure if it's the fighter's who are greedy or Dana, but hopefully they work it out.
Good luck on your picks.

that's awesome about the bruins win in a SO. perfect. happy to hear it was a good time!
tonight should be good too. there's great potential in virtually every fight and you never know what going to happen, especially with the LW's!

hey leafs4ever, we've got every winner the same. looks like a lot of us are basically on the same page, so it may come down to points for methods, rounds, and time. i'm in trouble then!
i'm surprised so many of us are going with robinson. i thought i could sneak that one in as my "upset" pick.

good luck on the picks!
lol... i picked Nate! i'm going with Veres as my upset pick... and Swick too, it would appear...
oh well... i could be in trouble again tonight!!
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~
nate and swick are the betting faves, as far as i know, ceg. we've only seen 9 seconds of veres (thanks to gray) and "buddy rowe" has been MIA since the show...so there's a lot of question marks there.
oh, don't make me go Gina Carano on your ass!
hahah... btw... did you see American Gladiators the other night? When Gina 'stepped' on that girl's head during Earthquake? lol! I was afraid that when she was wrestling with the other contestant, that she might forget where she was, and give her a few elbows!
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~
settle...settle...easy...no need to make threats like that! i'm just joking around now so that everyone can have a good laugh when i score 10 or so.
i did see that on monday night. the "competitor" was pretty pissed. it's funny how seriously most of the others take it and and they play their roles, but gina is usually trying not to laugh. i guess she signed on for a second season, so she must have had fun filming the first one.
...and i keep expecting the same, an elbow to come out of nowhere! haha ...maybe a knee or a head kick...:D
looks like there are two episodes of releashed on prior to the fight night. my tv guide says that matt serra's bjj clinic on kelly dullanty from ufc 36 is on the first one! sweet! a nice little bonus.
pre-lims are under way...i'm having trouble using the fantasy page so maybe it is a sign that i should actually be patient and wait to watch the matches without knowing the outcome, if they make it on the show.
edit: ok, so i did manage to get the bugs worked out and see the initial results...releash (j bully ) takes the lead to start, some ties in the middle of the pack, and no play from beachdweller pulling up the rear :( ...why no play?, beachdweller, why!?!? :D

I'm going to try and make it through until the end of fight night but considering that it starts at my usual bed time I may nod off. I'm crossing my fingers they show Gray's fight.
I may have an early lead but I had an early lead for ufc 80 and you still beat me. Like you said it's really going to come down to method of victory, etc.

you're probabaly crazy busy these days, eh? well i hope they show gray's fight for you. it may give you just enough energy to hang on for a bit. so many good match ups on the undercard, but i'm particularly interested in seeing how much gray has improved. cory hill, too. oh, and the grappling in pellegrino vs. crane should be outstanding too...damn i'd like to see them all.
gray for you and ceg, though, so you can stay awake!
you had me by a deuce the second time i checked, so i think this will be close. our friendly competition may turn into a heated rivalry!

yeah just a little busy lately. I'm a night owl so I don't particularly love getting up at 3 am but it's nice to do what you love. I think I can manage to stay awake for Gray though!
Lots of good fights on this one, eh?
I don't know about this heated rivalry, but I'm only slightly competitive so please don't mind me trying to kick your collective butts! (although i've probably just jinxed that prospect)

indeed, that does make it easier.
i'm only joking around, of course. this just adds a little fun to the shows. it was always fun just picking the winners with youguys, but it's cool that they have set up this fantasy thing for us to keep track.
...and you still have me by two!!! i just checked in again to see, but i have managed to avoid the spoilers tonight, so any bonus pre-lims will be more fun that way.
Wait just a second Ceg! No giving up yet. You still have the high score in the league.
that is true!
...and i just checked in one more time...you still have me by two after another update! haha i'm in 40th place, and you are only 18 points out of the top 20! you're probably in the 30's?

Hmmm.... verrrryy interesting!
I'm sans a computer tonight so it's hard to me to check the fantasy page from my (evil) cell phone.
excellent fight to start the night! i really enjoyed that one. the second choke attempt looked like it was the finish for robinson, he had not arms in and it looked really tight...then i thought we might actually see an oma plata submission! but alvin rolled out and eventually got caught in a really nice triangle. impressive win for nate!

awesome... lovin' the jiujitsu! i was afraid for that guillotine, but nate's a tough little f***er!
