UFC 80, January 19, 2008 - Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle, England - PPV (Live at 3 p.m. ET)
Main Card:
BJ Penn (154) Vs. Joe Stevenson (154) - LW Championship
Gabriel Gonzaga (255) Vs. Fabricio Werdum (247)
Marcus Davis (169) Vs. Jess Liaudin (170)
Jason Lambert (204) vs. Wilson Gouveia (205)
Kendall Grove (186) Vs. Jorge Rivera (185)
Pre-lims:
Antoni Hardonk (244) Vs. Colin Robinson (238)
Paul Taylor (170) Vs. Paul Kelly (170)
Alessio Sakara (206) Vs. James Lee (206)
Sam Stout (155) Vs. Per Eklund (155)
me too. sam looked to be in phenomenal shape as always at the weigh-ins. i'm not familiar with per eklund, but i'm not aware of any strikers he's faced who would be on sam's level. i'm thinking quick ko for sam, so that it gets shown!
after watching the marcus davis vs. paul taylor fight again the other night, i'm hoping a second pre-lim might be taylor's match. i'm thinking quick ko there too. an excellent kickboxer with a big reach advantage on paul kelly.
bj was looking like he was breathing very heavy during the wiegh-in, i'm not sure if it was from excitement or the weight cut, but by most accounts he's in great shape for this fight. jason lambert looked to be in terrible shape, despite weighing in one under, and james lee was looking pretty soft too. we'll see if it shows in performance tomorrow.

uh oh! i have both Lambert and Lee in my picks...
i'm sticking with them though... i'm going to go with my first instincts...

yeah, i have been 50/50 on a few of these, but decided to stay with my gut call in the beginning. trust the insticts, ceg!
(james lee took his third to last fight on a few days notice against a well rounded veteran and won by guillotine choke in the first minute...so you never know! he last lost to dean lister by suubmission in 2003 and his 11 fights since haven't made it out of the first round, so i guess cardio shouldn't be an issue...also, sakara is not known for long fights, either.)
i cannot believe this!!! i am through the roof!!! go evan!!!! i'll be there with my team tanner shirt on!!! :):):):)
EVAN TANNER RETURNS TO UFC TO FIGHT OKAMI

NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, England – Late last year, Evan Tanner announced that he had signed to once again compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Now there is a date and an opponent to round out his return.
As part of a question and answer session on Friday, UFC broadcaster Joe Rogan stated that Evan Tanner will face Yushin Okami when the promotion makes its Canadian debut.
That event will be headlined by a championship bout between current welterweight titleholder Matt Serra and interim champion Georges St. Pierre. It will take place on April 19 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Joe Silva, UFC’s vice president of talent relations, confirmed Rogan’s comments about the fight.
Tanner last fought more than one-and-a-half years ago at UFC 59 where he defeated Justin Levens by triangle choke. He won the middleweight championship at UFC 51, defeating David Terrell by TKO. His reign didn’t last long though, as he lost the belt to Rich Franklin four months later.
The 36-year-old fighter out of Amarillo, Texas has long been considered a nomad, never staying with one fight camp for very long. Tanner has spent time training with teams such as Team Quest and Chute Boxe USA, but is currently training at Hard Knocks Muay Thai in Las Vegas. He has also recently traveled to Utah to train with Josh Burkman, who fights in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Jan. 23 against Mike Swick.
Rogan also stated that the UFC has been talking with Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Takanori Gomi amongst others, but as far as he is aware nothing is solid with any of them.
i meant to say "hoping", not hopping, although i am hopping for this card if it comes to be...some of my favourite fighters all on the same card! gsp, serra, alves, goulet, cote...the only thing that could make this any better for me would be if evan tanner happens to get moved to this card. it's a dream, only a dream...:)
depending on who stout, goulet, macdonald and cote are facing...oh, and shogun too!...this could be one of the best cards they have put together in some time. i guess they are trying to make up for teasing us for so long!
sale!, sale!, i'm hoping for a sale! it's funny, releash, but the cheapest flight i could find was about 450$, so roughly about the same which is kind of weird considering our locations! i think i can get the train for about half that, and time's not an issue for me, so i'll be going that way unless i find a sale first. i'll be hoping you find one!

happy to hear you're home to see the show!
i'm was hoping that flights would be more like $250 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sale too. I know that it's more expensive to fly into/out of smaller cities like Halifax so I'm assuming that's why it's about the same for you despite a shorter travel distance. Unfortunately time is an issue for me so I can't go the train route like you. It's already going to be tricky getting Friday through Sunday off ... I may have tell a little white lie and say I'm in a wedding or something. Luckily I haven't taken any sick days and I've worked more than my fair share of weekends this year, so I'm hopeful it will work out.
I'm glad you guys want to share a room too ! Just a thought but should one of us buy the 3 tickets so we can sit together at the event?

hey chicky, long time no post!! workin' hard?
yah, i don't mind ordering the tickets... i was going to set us up with a Fight Club membership so we can get advanced tickets... i'm pretty much on line all day anyways, so i can try for them as soon as they're on sale...
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~
i saw you logged into the fight club, ceg. i took a hit on that last one. "j bully" is pulling ahead! i also shouldn't have doubted pearljamfan99's friend!

Hey CEG!!!!!! Yeah work has kinda been kicking my ass lately. The hours on surgery are insanely long (I've been at the hospital something like 85 hours since Monday morning) but I absolutely love it, so I can't complain too much.
Thanks so much for working on the tickets!! I'm actually getting excited for it already ... it's going to be a great fight card, especially to see in person and I get to meet you guys!
I couldn't resist ... I had to check the points in the league. I better watch out for Mookie and pearljamfan99's friend. Sorry Roger's left you Ceg! :(
jorge was incredibly agressive start to finish. i didn't expect for him to be so expolsive initially! i guess a year off was good to him. wow! kendall was simply overwhelmed and was out of that one early.

I also apparently forgot who I chose to win this fight ... I have Lambert winning by unanimous decision. I think I give the first round to him.
