  • pretty much as expected from the first bout, rogers lands a strike to end it in the first after a bit of dirty boxing and knees in the clinch. quick finish.
  • hell yeah! baroni got an early flurry of punches off and put villasenor on his back after catching a kick, but than joe landed a punch that hurt baroni...locked up a tight standing gullotine that took the wind out of baroni and villasenor backs off after a few seconds to land the final blows! villasenor ends baroni's night early!!! :D:) sweet.
  • here we go...

    go gina! :)
  • great round! gina keeping young off with the teap and landing that right hand repeatedly because of the distance kept. she's showing great reads on the high kicks, and kaitlin's defense against the teap and right hand looks poor. gina catches a leg kick and pushes young down to her back. they scramble back to the feet, exchange and after a clinch kaitlin gets a takedown but falls into a gogoplata attempt by carano! gina can't quite get it locked in and kaitlin eventually escapes! she lands a big strike coming out and tried to land a head kick as gina stands. gina waits and gets back up as kaitlin throws a few wild high kicks and a spinning kick. gina lands a counter high kick and continues to punish young with the teap and the combinations. looks like kaitlin is just looking for a home run.

    great fight! :)
  • holy fucking fight! :D both fighters tiring a bit, but kaitlin is wilting with the damage from the punches. gina again getting the better of the standing exchanges, but kaitlin is hanging in there. gina has her in trouble against the fence after landing a couple of strong punches flush and knees to the body in the clinch, and kaitlin won't go down. gina almost punches herself out as kaitlin is kept up by the fence and in big trouble. gina pounces on kaitlin's back after pushing her down with a strong front kick and works for the RNC at the end!!! she finally got it sunk in as the horn sounded!

wow! these girls are showing the guys how it's done. :)
  • it's over! young can't continue after the damage in the second.

    gina remains undefeated! :)

what a fight! fight of the night so far!!!
  • what a fight smith and lawler are putting on! i can't believe these guys are both still standing!

a bit of a feeling out process to begin with, but a back and forth striking battle ever since. smith was saved by the bell in the first. lawler pawing out and landing jabs and rights, and smith landing some beautiful elbows out of the clinch, especially those upward ones! great fight!
  • have to agree with mauro, what's with the booing? these guys are putting it all out there!
  • no...a no contest...:(

lawler shows sportsmanship after poking smith in the eye acidentally, giving him time to recover, but the doctor comes in and checks the eye and stops the fight! they didn't even give him the time to recover...poor decision at the end. smith seemed ready to continue. great fight, though, so i hope there is a rematch.

both fighters seemed really disappointed. rightfully so.
  • the craziness continues...a kimbo vs. thompson fight that goes out of the first round! kimbo hurt thompson on the feet a couple of times, but showed poor takedown defense and ground skills as james was able to take him down easily in the first and second. he had him in a few bad spots on the ground in the first, but really had him in trouble for the last minute of the second round as he had him in a crucifix against the cage, landing elbows and punches. kimbo was saved by the bell, but the fight very well could have been called there. kimbo comes out tired and looking weak, but lands a couple of punches to thompson's ear and it wobbles him and the ref calls the fight. it could be argued that thompson actually had kimbo in more trouble at the end of the second.

anyway, controversial quick stoppage finish to what was actually a pretty entertaining fight. we got to see that kimbo can be taken down easily, that his cardio isn't close to where it should be and that his ground game is still pretty poor. the megapunk almost pulls off the upset!
  • oop! just realized as the west coast feed starts here that this wasn't live on the west coast...

so if anybody is out there watching this...i think i am the only one :D , don't read the previous posts! :)

    Kimbo almost lost there.
    I miss igotid88
  • it was rigged.... shouldnt have been a stoppage

i thought it was going to be stopped in the second when thompson was landing those elbows. could have been called then and probably would have been a good stoppage. kimbo wasn't doing anything to defend himself.

not reading since I'm in the west and the fights are still going on, but how has Dana White, a shrewed business man, not get female MMA fights in the UFC before CBS?

the girls kicked ass, love Muay Thai, Gina has great hands...

great fight, eh? good to see you beachdweller! :)

sorry, again i forget about the west coast. :(

yeah, dana still says he doesn't like to see women fight, but fights like that could change his mind. there are quite a few excellent women's matches out there, but not many people have seen them yet.

i hope that the show they just put on gets more people intrigued. great heart shown by kaitlin, but you're right, in the end it was gina's better hands and combinations that won it for her.

a gogoplata attempt and a rear naked choke at the bell is quite impressive for her too! :D
  • oh, and the teap she used over and over again to set up those punch combos worked to perfection. very nice.

if CBS makes MMA on CBS a mainstay, I wonder what effect it'll have on the UFC pay per views overtime? can't be good if they start getting any UFC talent. I've been pissed with the UFC pay per view prices rising yet again. 34.95, then 39.95, not 44.95...even with spreading the price with friends it irratates me. Yet, I continue to pay, lol

I don't like the announcers at all, they have me missing the legendary announcing of Jim Brown.

    :D

jim brown was ahead of his time! i seriously think he was the only one who had a clue about what he was saying on the first ufc. ;)

i used to dislike mauro's style when he first started doing pride, but he actually grows on you a bit. i like him now. i can see how would seem annoying, though. gus seems a bit green, and frank is being frank.

wow, Lawler/Smith fight has been pretty good, one big difference, Smith miss on most punches, Lawler was on target far more often, and went down to the body much more.

    here comes round 3

  • i think robbie lawler was doing the "you're not going to get me with that" when he shook his head after it looked like smith was hurt to the body. smith did the same thing in the sell fight when he was hurt badly on a hook to the body and when sell came in looking for the finish, smith blasted him with a stright right hand to knock him out.

...in any case, i think smith was actually hurt there...:)

great fight, though! what a back and forth battle!

sorry mr announcer, Lawler is not even close to being in the same league as Anderson Silva

    here comes round 3

robbie's looking WAY more technical than i have seen him in the past. really impressive. smith's got power when he lands, but you're right...he's missing more than landing. when he first came at lawler he threw a big home run swing and lawler slowed him down immediately with a sharp counter. first round ended with excitement and the second was all out!

both guys are definitely willing to stand and strike!

    agreed. :)

WTF? his eye looks fine...that's right bullshit! very bad showing for Elite XC! Should have given him his five minutes of recovery time and checked the eye again...

  • watching it again, i'm still confused.

the fighters pretty much called the break themselves, the ref calls time to give smith time to recover and the doctor stops it almost immediately? smith obviously wanted to continue, but just needed a moment to recover from the accidental poke.

disappointing end to what was a great battle.

*whispers in death bed voice*... "put me back in, bj...put me back in, gray..." :D trying to do my gabe impression there...:D

this is part of the controversy and why some people dislike gina, although many people seem to find no reason to dislike her. they just dislike her. elite xc made a 140 womens's division "for her" and a 160 division "for" nick diaz. they said they were trying to make an attempt to start bringing in more weight classes, which would be a good thing in my opinion, but really it was because diaz and gina are two of their biggest stars and diaz can't make 155, and gina has a great deal of difficulty making 135. she nearly kills herself to make 140! they should just go with 135, 145, 155 for the female division, but there's really no one out there to fight in the 145 and 155 lb. range unless 135 fighters start fighting at 145 and stop cutting weight. hope it works itself out as the sport grows.

it's weird, because gina looked like death making 141.1 last time...no worries the time before that and this time she looked very fit, but was 3.5 over  in any case, i'm happy she didn't deplete herself for this show too much, but at the same time the fight was signed at 140...so it is a bit unprofessional. i'm not sure kaitlin cares too much, though. she dropped 10 lbs. herself for this one, and gina had to try to lose the 20 lbs. she had to gain for american gladiators season two in a month! not an easy task.

i just downloaded the inside mma episode today. thanks for the heads up. i'll have to watch it later, though, as i just woke up in time to catch the show...damn, missed the pre-lims online!

i think the very shady ;) gary shaw is the "other guy"...shady and creepy, that guy...

Sorry I wasn't around tonight man. I had a bunch of friends over for the fights and kind of got caught up in all of that. Was a great night of fights and i was really impressed with what elite did tonight. I was upset by the stoppage of the Lawler/Smith fight, i really think smith would have been ready after with the 5minutes to compose himself. Gina/Katline was a great fight aswell, both gassed in the 2nd but gina fought it out and deserved the win. Kimbo was really tested tonight and really didn't like the stoppage at first, then a buddy pointed out thompson's eyes and i guess it was an ok stoppage. Kimbo was really in trouble if it went to the judges so i want to believe it wasn't a bad stoppage.
ok i'm about to re-watch the fights now that everybody is gone. I will reply to your thoughts on tonight

hahahaha excatly what i was thinking about gabe.

ya gina looked good but i could see here making the 140 if she put everything into it and cut a bit earlier or tried to stay at about 155-160 normally. Like you said, she has a lot on her plate right now and may be doing a little too much. I hope she has the time to fully prepare for her next fight.

no this guy seemed pretty cool, was sucking up to kimbo alot though lol. just looked it up and it was jared shaw i think... a brother of gary???
