I know! I can't believe it after that long. I don't have it back yet (I have to make arrangments with the towing company), but the cop I talked to said there was no apparent damage. I'm totally shocked! (but in a good way)

Awesome, but did you already buy a new car?0 -
chiefojibwa wrote:uh, thankfully i live in flagstaff.
i don't see how people can live in the valley of the brown cloud. actually, i do. it's called "denial". as in, let's water the fuck out of our lawn, have a swimming pool in the backyard, stay immersed in air conditioning, and do everything in our power to pretend we don't live in a desert. yeah, that and rape the colorado river (fuck the CAP) to get most of our water.
sorry to vent, we have water restrictions up here in flag. it boggles my mind that the valley gets to waste so much water on their lawns and pools, with absolutely NO restrictions on useage.
You know, not everyone in Phoenix lives that way. I don't have a swimming pool or a lawn (just a few plants in pots) and I keep my air on 82-85 in the summer. People in Flagstaff have to use their heat in the winter too, yes?
But I agree that there should probably be more water restrictions.0 -

No, I didn't. I was really just gonna have to be without one for awhile.0 -

Yeah, I live in a apt. in Scottsdale, drive a car that gets 40mpg, use minimal water, keep my AC on 82.
Guess I don't fit the profile either.0 -
chiefojibwa wrote:cool, i shouldn't stereotype the valley. you gotta admit, though, there are a LOT of people living down there who are in total denial that they live in the desert.
yeah, we have to use heat in the winter. i burn wood.
on a side note, i would encourage everyone to read "cadillac desert". a great history on how the west was watered.
I find it kind of funny with those that move here and complain about the heat, yet they are living in this state of denial (ac, pool). They're outside a total of what, 10 minutes a day? Hello, it's a desert, it's supposed to be hot in the summer. If it wasn't, the world would probably be coming to an end. The heat doesn't really bother me anyway. I'll still ride my bike at the high point of the day (yes, everyone thinks I'm crazy!)0 -
I just moved here from the Chicago area about 2 months ago. I can honestly tell you that it's even worse there.
Sure, here you have 3 really "hot" months, other than that it's beautiful weather the other 9 months. In Chicago there are 5 months of cold and 5 months of hot/humid weather. The energy use yearly has to be much higher there (Chi.) then here (AZ). The 110 degree heat is nothing compared to the sticky disgusting 95 degree heat of the midwest. I'm pretty sure if you were to look at each person's energy consumption yearly in both areas, it would be much higher there than here.0 -
Yes, I guess I am guilty, I have a pool, use the ac, a lot in the summer and have a small lawn.
I do turn off the water while brushing my teeth, I do work from home, so I don't use energy to drive around and when I do, my car get's very good gas mileage. I turn out the lights when I leave a room. Soooo....0 -

Thanks Carole, I've got my eyes peeled..
Really not a laughing matter, but coming from her mouth, funny.
I live in suburbia, AZ. NOTHING can happen here...Oh except at the Wal Mart 2 miles from my house. Remember when that guy from Sun City shot those two employee's? We were there that day.EEESSHH!0 -

Yikes!
I know what you mean about the MIL though. My parents are like that and I heard about it from them.
But it's probably more dangerous to be in a car here than any serial rapist/shooter is.0 -
chiefojibwa wrote:funny shit, my wife just got the call yesterday. her mom told her "don't go to phoenix alone!"
not a problem she replied. we avoid that place like the fucking plague.
So I guess we won't see you in August then.0 -
The real question should be "Why do you live in Phoenix.".....To quote Bill Hicks yet again, "What are you a fucking lizard?"one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
sweet smell that they adore
I think I'd rather smother
