usually yes you have to pay for health care (insurance or out of pocket), but there are many nuances. I think for any pregnant woman there is adequate care provided for by some means. Plenty of low income women who may not have insurance receive prenatal care.

in scotland all maternity care, both pre and post natal, is free

I mean, I just figure it's game over at 35 unless you can afford really good health care. That number is like doomsday.
The odds of having a baby with genetic/chromosomal defects increases the older the mother is. 35+ plus becomes the at-risk age for these defects. For instance, the odds of having Down syndrome [approximately]:

    - 1 in a 1200 at age 20
    - 1 in 700 at 30
    - 1 in 300 at 35
    - 1 in 100 at 40
    - 1 in 30 at 45

Also, the older you are, the more likely there are to be problems during the pregnancy, including a higher risk of miscarriage and stillbirth, and the higher the likelihood of requiring a c-section.
No time to be void or save up on life. You got to spend it all.

the truth is it's not really "free" anywhere. under any system trade offs are made. in canada for example people often have to wait for extensive periods to receive "free" care and often people such as the elderly are made to wait longer or are denied in favor of someone else.

its free here.. i.e. a 17 year old girl ho has never worked will get the same cara nd attention a s a 31 year old solicitor..

its 'free' in as much as its paid for by our taxes.. but its genius lies in the fact that its not exclusive to just those whocan afford it... the US has an unbelievably high death toll due to people who simply couldnt afford care.. meanwhile your govt has spent 60 trillion dollars on a war no-one gives a fuck about.

Seriously, if you can get pregnant and sustain a pregnancy and have the will and desire to do so then go for it I say, and I don't care if you're 50 or 15.
    NOPE!!!

I think 35 is fine, but 40 is pushing it.

My parents were 37 & 41 when I was born and they were always so old!
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.
