I guess if someone has to explain their life choices in areas where most people don't . . . it could get annoying. Of course maybe explaining the life choices is the best way to get the word out. To ease the communication between people of different lifestyle choices, if I become vegetarian again, I should have a little scripted line that gets done what needs to get done, and then onward to discussion on the Yankees. I'm not being facetious here, I'm actually thinking seriously about a little "elevator conversation" if I become vegetarian again.
I thought the hosts on the podcast veganfreak were pretentious. Colleen from compassionatecooks.com podcast is definitely passionate, and may seem pretentious, but she's just justifying her lifestyle. She's actually a really good advocate for a vegan lifestyle. I saw her speak and she presented right after a very heated discussion. She used humor to diffuse the situation, but she did not detract from her message. I guess some people have the ability to be empathic and level headed in any heated situation, and some get overwhelmed by it. I would recommend her podcast. It's my favorite podcast basically because of her podcast personality. There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous

Yeah, that's why I said some. I guess I hear from more of the outspoken vegans/veggies....that bag on eating meat, not talk about the benefits of thier lifestyle (or just live it), kinda like the Mac adds on TV, that basically make fun of MS users instead of tauting thier own product.0 -

Thinking of them, and how I interact with them grounds me in how to interact with others. I was high-and-mighty when I worked in the social services, and absolutely no fun to talk with. I perceived that my family perceived I was nutso psycho. I can't interact with them like that again. It's not worth how unfair I felt about judging them.

Stuff White People Like
#32 Vegan/Vegetarianism
January 27, 2008 by clander
As with many white people activities, being vegan/vegetarian enables them to feel as though they are helping the environment AND it gives them a sweet way to feel superior to others. For further evidence, note how the vegetarian world has increasing levels of extemism (no meat, no dairy, no eggs, no fish, nothing that has been cooked, etc).
Much like not watching TV, this makes white people pretty hard to deal with on a day to day basis - having dinner, going to restaurants, having them over to watch political debates all become major challenges as they will talk about how they cannot eat anything and would rather that the meat and cheese be thrown in the garbage than put into their bodies.
But wait, aren’t there white people who eat organice, grain fed, free range cattle and chicken? Yes, these white people are wracked with guilt knowing that they are eating a dead animal, contributing to rainforest deforestation, and global warming.
Whether you are dealing with a meat eater or a vegan/vegetarian, there are many ways to use this information to your advantage.
If you require a favor from a vegetarian white person, you should invite them to a dinner with your family. When your mother/grandmother offers them a dish with meat in it, they will reject it saying that they are vegetarian. When the meal is over, tell them that your mom is very embarrassed, and that in your culture rejecting food is the equivalent of spitting on someone’s grave. They will then owe you favor, this can be repeated when you need trips to the airport, someone to help you move, a small interest free loan, or a place for your friend to crash.
If you need to gain leverage with a meat eater, it’s pretty easy. They already feel guilty, just point it out.Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?0 -
Been a Vegan (and 'pointed" out as a "freak" for it - since 1991.) Started Out Vegetarian - but it wasn't quite punishment enough for me. But I am completely Vegan for ethical reasons - and not as some narcissistic weight loss program. Veganism is a way of life. I don't go to people's homes for dinners or cook-outs - because they think I can just "pick" off the meat. I've already said too much. I hate drawing attention to myself. But it's the PJ Board. People will no doubt pick me to pieces just the same- just like the animals that they eat. Go ahead - I'm used to it!The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated - Gandhi

Are you into natural remedies as well? This is gaining steam as well with caucasian Americans (almost as much as hating corporations and threatening to move to Canada!)!

One thing all white people believe is that natural medicine can cure everything. If you want to test this theory, think about which stores supply the bulk of natural/herbal remedies? Thats right! Whole Foods and Organic Co-ops!
Because of a rather shady history, white people do not trust the pharmaceutical industry. Using pretty sound logic, they believe that the drug companies have no motivation to find real cures for things like AIDS since the real profit are in drugs like Viagra and Xanax.
Using their powers of deduction, white people have determined that herbal remedies are unilaterally better than anything produced by a drug company.
Since white people can’t really blame any race for their problems, they need to blame corporations. In this case, the reason that they are sick or fat or without energy is because the drug companies are in a conspiracy to keep them addicted to placebos. This helps them shed accountability, and it lets them feel like they are helping the environment by rejecting the polluting, greedy, awful drug companies and taking natural, organic medicine from the earth.
But perhaps it goes deeper. Hundreds of years ago, another group of people believed firmly in natural medicine and it’s ability to cure disease. Then white people gave them blankets with small pox and they all died. So perhaps turning to natural medicine also helps white people feel better about killing natives.
How can you use this for gain? It’s easy! When a white person you work with is feeling sick or says they have no energy, ask them to tell you more about their problems. After pretending to listen for a little while, tell them that in your culture/home country “we cured that using a special herbal powder from [insert made up tree] root.”
Then the next day bring them a small bag of basil or oregano and tell them to boil it in a tea (white people love to believe in magic teas) and see how they feel in the morning. One of two things will happen. They will either wake up feeling great because they want to feel great and they’ll thank you profusely. Or they will wake up feeling like crap, and when you confront them at work, they will lie and say they feel good.
Either way, you did them a favor so now they owe you a favor.
Note: it’s weird that there are some white people who won’t take aspirin, but will take Ecstasy, Cocaine, Xanax and Vicodin.Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?0 -
