Maybe you guys dont do really heavy lifting but I could see the soreness after a workout being unbearable if I didnt have meat, eggs, milk, protein powder, etc. Are you guys really into eating nuts?Alpine Valley 2000

I lift, not to gain mass, as I'm a girl, but I haven't noticed any difference in soreness since I stopped eating meat. You can always eat tofu. Besides being sore is good.0 -

...I've been sore enough to barely be able to walk but I will still workout. you're supposed to work out when you're sore.

I disagree to a point, if you are that sore......resting is more important because you will just be breaking your body down more otherwiseAlpine Valley 2000

This is part of the reason why I'm a vegetarian and not a vegan. I lift weights 3 times a week, and know I would find it difficult to get all the protein needed on a vegan diet. That's not to say it isn't possible, I know there are vegan body builders out there, but I really don't have the time to prepare all the different types of food I would need.
oh, and you really shouldn't work out if you are that sore. Soreness indicates that your body hasn't fully recovered, i.e the muscle fibres you tore apart during the previous workout, have not had time to heal.0 -

I do eat a lot of nuts. Almonds, pecans, walnuts. I love them. Tofu, soy milk, and seitan are other protein sources for me. And of course beans/grains are good too.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

you should be sore 2 days after working out, not the next day. if you are the next day, you probably did something wrong.0 -

Oh spare me, whoever told you that is talking rubbish! Are you aware of what happens when you workout? You put tiny little micro tears in the muscles. Feeding them with protein and other nutrients rebuilds the tissue stronger and bigger.
The level of soreness is dependent on a number of factors. Firstly the level of intensity you put your muscles under, i.e a more strenuous workout will cause more damage to the muscle fibres, thus recovery can take longer, particularly if you are new to exercise, or you don't perform these exercises that frequently. If you are aching two days later, this could be as a result of your body not being used to the exercise, or poor eating, i.e. not getting the right amount of nutrients to support the body's recovery.
In fact, if your body is in good physical condtion and you eat well, it's entirely possible to not have much soreness at all - there is no set rule, let alone that you MUST ache two days later or you're doing something wrong!0 -

That also is not true, I was sore last night after a chest workout that I did in the morning. What could I have done wrong? I hate a ton, get more than enough vitmains and minerals.Alpine Valley 2000

I didn't say it was a "set rule." I agree there are a lot of factors. And yes, I do understand what happens you work out- you, spare ME.0 -

nuts are so good for you, but you really have to be so careful that you're not eating too many! they are so high in calories, you can't just munch on them, you have to be very conscious of how many you're eating!0 -

Hey I meant it in a jovial way, don't get pissey!
But what you said really has no grounds at all. It is sometimes the case that you can ache more two days after, but that's most likely because you've spent a whole day pushing your recovering body through the daily rigors of modern living. Imagine if your body is trying to repair all that broken down tissue, and you're using the same muscles to do something like lifting heavy shopping bags.0 -

I hear you there. I'm hypoglycemic. And sometimes if I sleep in, I wake up and go straight for chocolate with peanut butter and a coke. Not good.
My late night snack has become a little plain soy yogurt with a bit of apple sauce and cinnamon mixed in. It coats my belly very nicely.Walking can be a real trip
