The thought that they COULD become voters is scary enough.
I agree.
This story is sad more than anything. The future of the world is indeed doomed if things like this are happening.
To be quite honest, i'm surprised it hasn't happened in the UK first...
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
those daytime talk shows have been doing this topic for years. young girls...sometimes 12 and 13 years old...get it in their head that they want a baby and they go after it with a vengeance. is it the new cool thing to do? do they need someone to love/to love them THAT badly? do they want out of school? is it because their friend has a baby? are they missing something from their lives? whatever the reason, having a child is not the answer. at any age. not for those reasons. and absolutely not at that age. and half of these kids that i've seen on shows just assume that their moms/parents will care for the child while they themselves continue their childhood. its insane.
To be quite honest, i'm surprised it hasn't happened in the UK first...
they thought about it but none of them actually knew what a pact was.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
It just gets better. I'm just gonna get the main part here:
Pact girls 'upsetthey weren't pregnant'
June 20, 2008 - 2:01PM
Officials in the Massachusetts city of Gloucester today said nearly half of those who became pregnant appear to have entered into a pact to have their babies together over the year.
"Some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Gloucester High School principal Joseph Sullivan told Time magazine, which broke news of the pact on its website.
it is also scary ...can they deal and handle the babys ..i mean to be pregnant is a thing and not a ...wtf why did they bye themselfs dogs or a cat ..come on ...
hey DLT10.. you're in Mass... even a horny wee mofo like you would use a condom wouldnt you?

I remember when I was in Highschool..girls were getting pregnant left and right and this was a while back. The school had a daycare center. I actually thought it encouraged people to get knocked up. They eventually got rid of the daycare center
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

oh yeah it is sick. I heard about this on the news today. I just happened to think about my highschool. I think the girls actually said...well it's okay to get knocked up now..cuz I can still go to school and have the kid taken care of.

I'm sure they aren't happy...but it's their fault too. Teenagers are horny devils... parents need to be realistic about birth control and not think their children aren't having sex. It looks like some of the fathers could be in trouble too. So a bunch of people's lives are ruined.
I just think it's sad.

Do you think this movie had anything to do with it?
(No, I am not saying the movie should be blamed for someone's stupidity)
I really don't think you can blame a movie. I'm not one to blame the media for all of the problems in society. If anyone is to blame it's those girl's parents.

No, I obviously don't regret it. But, I'm not a young teenager that recruited a homeless man in his 20's to impregnate me. So I think it is fair to say that while I hope these young girls will be able to love and care for these children in the way that they deserve to be cared for, there will be plenty of regret to go around.
(I still stand by my words that the first few weeks are hellish at times, even though I was being flippant when I said that. It was hard for me, and I was a married adult sharing the responsibility with a partner I had planned for years to start a family with. I can't imagine the reality check that these kids are going to experience once theses babies are born.)

True, I agree, the whole pact thing is just immature and naive and these girls are in for some hard life lessons. I don't think ALL young parents are bad though. I had my children young, though not because of some stupid pact. Just the circumstances I found myself in. I'm 37 now, my kids are the most remarkable people I know, and I am putting myself through Uni. I just did things backwards. I always knew I wanted to be a young mum, and oddly enough, the thought of having a baby NOW terrifies beyond words! lol

I definitely don't think all young parents are bad. There are plenty of young parents who rise to the occasion and make a wonderful life for themselves and their child/children. I do think that a girl under 16 who chooses to get pregnant is exhibiting some bad judgment, and that does not bode well for her parenting skills in the immediate future, at least. Hopefully they will be able to turn it around, though, for the sake of their children.

Yer right, bad judgement, immaturity. I think it's partly biological. I can remember all of my sisters, 3 of them, going through phases where they desperately wanted a baby when they were young. It seemed to be cyclic, mid teen years, late teen years, early 20's.......... so perhaps from a purely biological point of view, the desire, need, urge whatever, to procreate is normal. Our society doesn't look too kindly on it though, so most teenage girls, if they feel that urge, work their way through it and don't get themselves pregnant.
I just used to get very tired of the judgment and stereotyping when my children were little. I felt I had to work that extra bit harder to prove that being young doesn't automatically make me a lousy mother. And now, training as a Midwife, I am seeing my fair share of young mums and dads come through the pregnancy clinics. For the most part, only a very tiny percentage of them planned it that way. Most just made mistakes, and I think supporting them in their choice will make them better parents, rather than criticizing them. Not saying that you are that way, just society in general.

theres a decision they'll probably regret their whole life once the baby reaches the age of 1 and a half...
no doubt.
Oh it won't take that long.
The first six weeks with a new baby is a hell like no other.

So, do you regret it?
Guess I moved out of Fishtown too soon, look at all the fun I missed.
Oh yeah. Worst decision I ever made.
