It does seem pretty 'far out', this golf club story.
Unless he hit a tree root or a rock or got pissed and smashed up his club. I've never seen a club splinter, especially up top near the grip.

bryz is a russian spy...he sabotaged giroux's club

or giroux was wasted and doing something stupid...leading to the spin that his club 'shattered'

    either one seems plausible

    http://espn.go.com/nhl/notebook/_/page/ ... _forwards/

ESPN rankings of the top forwards in hockey. Giroux at #10

    Other interesting rankings:
Jeff Carter #31 (not exactly 6 on every good team better than him that the Fixer tried to argue a few years ago)
    Mike Richards #47
    Joffrey Lupul #51
    James Van Riemsdyk - #54

next Flyers on the list Simmons and Voracek tied at #60

and still some insist that the trade of Carter and Richards (and JVR) were good for this franchise :fp:

First off, that list is from ESPN...thats an issue right there.

I still have no problem with the Carter/Richards trade. J. Lupul had a nice year last year...doesnt even remotely make him a Top 50 player. Lets see him repeat that again, then we can talk.

Same with JVR. For the record, Luke Schenn had a very nice year for the Flyers, who would have an even scarier D-corp right now if he wasnt a part of it.
And so you see, I have come to doubt

Luke Schenn is solid but they did trade a guy who was the 2nd pick in the draft for him. JVR's upside is still huge. and Luke Schenn wasn't listed as one of the top 50 defensemen in the league in their defense rankings.

Carter was also invited to the Canadian Olympic team camp, one of only 30 forwards to be invited. I think that says a lot especially considering the abuse the guy has taken from Flyers fans (and a lot in this thread).

can't believe the NHL season starts in like 2 weeks. way too early.

Not really excited about hockey season yet.

At most I see this team as a #6 or #7 in the Conference.

season starts way too early and is too long. make it about 60 games

have you seen the new divisions? Flyers in a division called Metropolitan. and how are Detroit, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto considered Atlantic? what are they at least 1000 miles each from the Atlantic Ocean?

only top 3 from each division plus two wild cards make the playoffs. going to be interesting. this team has to get off to a good start.
  • MayDay10MayDay10 Posts: 11,738
    the Division names are shite.

Embarrassing names. May as well name it the Metrosexuals division.

For some reason, I just don't have a good feeling about this year. Hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe I'm just depressed from the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers and last years Flyers.

    Let's go Flyers!
    Alright, alright, alright!

Basically you got Pittsburgh. Can count on them having 100+ points probably.

Then you have the Rangers. Many have them pegged with Vigneault as being really good. For the sake of prediction, let's say they are good (even though I have suspicion).

In the "Atlantic" (lol) it is very top-heavy. You got:
    Boston
    Detroit
    Ottawa
    Wildcard

    "Metropolitan" (lol)
    Pittsburgh
    Rangers
    Spot 3 - Washington - Columbus - Islanders
Wildcard: 2 spots - Toronto - Montreal - 2 "Metro" teams who cant claim 3rd
shite: Carolina, Buffalo, Tampa, Florida, NJ, Philly.

Any of the "shite" teams can certainly surprise, challenge for the Wildcard or even #3. You can probably make a case for any one of them

The Eastern Conference (is that what its called?) seems pretty solidly stratified

Gonna be a long, mixed bag of a season.

Terrible PP, and inability to score at even strength.

    Defensive breakdowns are killer.

what happens 1st, Pearl Jam at the Wells Fargo or Peter Laviolette gets fired?

this team stinks offensively. and the captain hasn't done squat yet this year (and wasn't all that good last year).

can anyone still be defending the moves Holmgren has made over the past 3 seasons? the carter/Richards trades are going to go down as a colossal failure.
  • Dr. DelightDr. Delight Posts: 11,210
I really dont have the energy for this team.

Laviolette will be gone before the end of the month. Maybe Holmgren too.

Giroux was a ppg player last year. He's clearly trying to do it literally by himself this year.

The lines are a mess. Avg 1 G per game is not going to do it. Outside of the top 6 who are struggling, there is zero scoring depth.

Defense is a embarrassment...even more so because it is the most expensive Blueline corps in the NHL.

Surprisingly, goaltending is not the issue thus far.

Went to the Flyers vs habs game on Saturday and might be the worse game I have ever seen. this team has no structure on d and on offense. they have no identity.

If its me Lavi is gone by month end unless they show some passion. the question is who do you replace him with?
  • Dr. DelightDr. Delight Posts: 11,210
a complete organizational restructuring is truly what is needed...Ed Snider included. That will not happen until he is 6 ft deep.

Holmgren/Lavi need to go, along with a trade shakeup to get some of this stale bread off the team.
