tough to draft well after they gave up all those picks for pronger. they are fucked for a while. no goalie, no first round picks, too many long term deals, too many no trade clauses, too many shitty players. other than that they are in great shape.

less than 2 weeks until the phils start...and mcnabb has one foot out the door. it's nice when the flyers are good, but baseball and football are both better than hockey anyway

I agree it looks like a tough road ahead

I don't agree with you about hockey as a whole I've always liked hockey the best with football a close 2nd then baseball

way to choke away that second point

goaltending sucks something fierce. offense sucks. this whole team is sucking.

anybody catch the legal vs illegal hit vid's. i believe the league hand selected them.

it was nice to see to illegal hits by the Flyers. Obviously the Richards hit from this season was on there. Next one was Carter getting someone. Then on the legal list, they had the Stevens/Lindros hit from last centruy. in all the thousands of games over the last decade, you couldn't find one with a pair of current players that was legal

Luckily I was out last night and missed the game

The Eastern Conference is really garbage if this team can be tied for the 5th spot right now

    My bad the 7th spot

    Hi Boys,

It's been a while since I invaded your thread so I thought I would drop in. I'm kind of hoping that Philly hangs on to the 8th spot(however I think they'll miss the playoffs) so the Caps can take them out behind the woodshed for a serious beatdown. That's all for now.

    finally! good win tonight!

    Ugh

I can't stand this teams schizophrenic play

How they managed to beat the Devils 5 out of 6 times and chase Brodeur twice is beyond me

The same team that gets swept in a home-home against ATL

    Our Worries are Over !!!

    Flyers sign another goalie
UNIONDALE, N.Y. — The Flyers have signed goaltender Sebastien Caronfrom the Swiss Elite League in Europe, general manager Paul Holmgren confirmed to the Daily News last night.

Holmgren said Caron has arrived in the United States and if he clears waivers today at noon, he will join the team for the final five regular-season games. His contract is a pro-rated $500,000 for the remainder of this year, which would pay him about $25,906 for the last 10 days.

Since he signed after the March 3 trade deadline, he won’t be eligible for the playoffs.

The Flyers are looking for a spark just to make the playoffs, especially after Brian Boucher's rough outing against the Islanders on Thursday night. It will be interesting to see if the Flyers would be willing to test Caron tonight against Montreal in what many players call the "most important game of the year." The Canadiens are tied with the Flyers in the standings with 82 points.

The Flyers look like a different, less confident team with Boucher in net - though no player could agree to that or put a finger on it when asked. They are 6-19-3 when Boucher has appeared in a game this year.

If a tandem of Boucher or Johan Backlund, who is battling a groin injury, could carry the Flyers past the first round of the playoffs, Michael Leighton could be healthy enough to pick up the reins in net. Leighton is rehabbing his high left ankle sprain and is still "a ways off" according to Holmgren.

Jeremy Duchesne, who made his first NHL appearance last night in relief of Boucher when the Flyers trailed 6-2, is expected to be sent back to the AHL Phantoms if Caron clears waivers.

Caron last played in the NHL in 2006-07, when he played one game each for Chicago and Anaheim. Before that, he spent three seasons with Pittsburgh, playing 90 games from 2002-06. Overall, in 92 NHL games, he is 25-47-12, with a 3.45 goals against.

Backlund is hoping to be ready for Sunday when Detroit visits the Wachovia Center, though he may not be needed with Caron on the roster.

    Woah a Documentary !!!

HBO Documentary on Broad Street Bullies Debuts May 4

HBO Sports documentary Broad Street Bullies, a look at one of pro sports’ most polarizing teams, the legendary Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup championship squads of the 1970s, debuts on Tuesday, May 4 at 10 p.m. This exclusive presentation will tell the backstories of these engaging and colorful athletes, who won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 with a bold, aggressive style that sparked controversy and criticism.

“HBO’s Broad Street Bullies is an excellent and well-produced documentary that portrays the evolution of the Philadelphia Flyers,” said Comcast-Spectacor chairman and Flyers founder Ed Snider. “It brings back many wonderful memories for me, and it uncovers some new insights into the great story of our two Stanley Cup Championship teams. We are truly honored that this part of Philadelphia Flyers history will be seen nationally on HBO. I want to personally thank producer George Roy and his talented team for this historical tribute to the Flyers.”

“This film explores how a group of characters, who also happened to be an extraordinarily talented collection of hockey players that enjoyed contact on the ice, formed one of the most prominent and controversial teams in pro sports history,” says Ross Greenburg, president, HBO Sports. “We are going to re-trace the steps that led to the love affair between the city and the team, and show how to this day these players are revered in Philadelphia and despised elsewhere.”

Comcast-Spectacor, along with HBO and Comcast, will host an invitation-only screening at the Wachovia Center on Tuesday, April 13, for Flyers season ticket holders, sponsors, premium seat customers, promotional partners and community leaders. The Flyers Alumni who star in the documentary will attend the premiere screening. Season ticket holders and sponsors will receive their invitation via email.

“This special premiere is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our fans, our sponsors, and our partners for their outstanding support of the Flyers over the past 43 seasons,” said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko who also serves as Flyers President. “This documentary is a moving tribute to our founder Ed Snider, as well as a great group of guys, who are so deserving of this film, we wanted to have as many of our fans celebrate with them as possible.”

Playing before adoring fans at the Spectrum, the Flyers rose to prominence in the 1970s under the guidance of shrewd coach Freddie Shero. With larger-than-life figures like Dave “The Hammer” Schultz, Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Bernie Parent, Ed Van Impe, Bill Clement, Rick MacLeish, “Moose” Dupont, Bob Kelly, Joe Watson and Gary Dornhoefer, the team won many games, fought in just about all of them and made numerous enemies. The club’s popularity soared as their physically imposing and sometimes bloody style generated headlines across North America.

Although the franchise did not exist until 1967, the team rose to national prominence in just a few short years, and some NHL teams would see their home attendance double when the Flyers came to town. The club became a favorite of other hardscrabble cities and towns where blue-collar communities were taking an economic beating.

In a bizarre twist, singer Kate Smith’s rendition of “God Bless America” became the Flyers’ good luck charm. Eventually, the team that showcased players with gap-toothed grins, funny hair and goofy nicknames evolved into one of the NHL’s elite franchise. In 1976, the Flyers engaged the vaunted Soviet Central Red Army team in the finale of an exhibition series that would do little to ease the cold war tension between the two nations.

[This documentary] brings back many wonderful memories for me, and it uncovers some new insights into the great story of our two Stanley Cup Championship teams. We are truly honored that this part of Philadelphia Flyers history will be seen nationally on HBO." - Ed SniderBroad Street Bullies includes interviews with Snider and former Flyers standouts Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Bill Clement, Gary Dornhoefer, Bob Kelly, Bernie Parent, Ed Van Impe, Bobby Taylor, Don Saleski, Joe Watson, Orest Kindrachuck, and Dave “The Hammer” Schultz.

The executive producers of Broad Street Bullies are Ross Greenburg and Rick Bernstein; senior producer, Joe Lavine; produced by George Roy; music scored by Brian Keane; narrated by Liev Schreiber.

Other HBO airings include Wednesday, May 5 at 2:35 a.m.; Saturday, May 8 at 11 a.m.; Monday, May 10 at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, May 12 at 12 p.m.; Thursday, May 20 at 6 p.m.; Sunday, May 23 at 9 a.m.; and Tuesday, May 25 at 8 p.m. It will also air on HBO On Demand from Wednesday, May 5 through Monday, June 7.

    And they get shutout

This team is a fucking disgrace

And on the other side, we score one goal and don't register a shot for the last 15 minutes of the game...
Doesn't matter if Montreal makes the playoffs or not, we're out in 4 if we do.

It blows my mind that the Flyers havent really replaced a figure like Bernie Parent,
    almost a 30 year golatending problem .

I need an IV of Prozac to watch this team...I wish I could predict which team is going to show up each night but they could easily lose out or win out at this point

That bonehead Larry Brooks wrote that Pronger was the issue and the locker room is divided because of him...I guess he hasn't watched this team the last 2 years before Pronger got here..they have had the same issues...get a clue before you throw a guy under the bus

I have received almost 10 emails about purchasing flyers playoff tix. this team isn't even gonna sell out their playoff games (I'm not wasting money to go watch this shitty team get swept).

hate to say it, but they are better off missing the playoffs and saving themselves the embarrassment in round 1 (though I can't root for them to lose to the rangers, who are my most hated hockey team).

i would agree it it was basketball. however, in hockey, it seems any team can make a run. it's all about having a hot goalie and getting a few lucky bounches.
