except for in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas where he is completely amazing.

and I also like him in Ed Wood.

but I otherwise agree with you.
yah those are both great... but theyre intentionally fucked up... which are the best kind of roles for depp... i guess i could see depp working well as someone like the riddler... he just couldnt do anything as dark as ledgers joker... the success of someone like depp in a nolan batman movie would depend on the supporting cast and the story... he couldnt carry the film like heath did... and depp always tries to steal the show... not a good fit IMO

Well I've said that the only major villain left that would work in Nolan's films would be Riddler. And I agree that Depp wouldn't be good for that role. It should probably be an lesser-known actor. Someone (maybe you) mentioned earlier in this thread that Riddler should be a little like Jigsaw from Saw.....putting people in crazy situations for his own amusement. Not a bad idea.

I just want to say that I love your sig. It makes me sad to think there are those who don't get it. It really takes me back to the mid 90s :-)

yeah remember the first time you stumbled upon one of these singles? It was like Christmas morning. "Holy crap, there's MORE Pearl Jam??" I remember flipping my lid over the Dissident single. SIX LIVE SONGS?!?!?!?!?!?! WOW!!!!!

250 live albums later, it doesn't seem like a such big deal. makes your realize how good we have it now with these official bootlegs.

I think TDK could easily be followed up, I doubt Nolan restarted the series to finish it after film no.2. The next film will probably suck in comparison if it's a straight up action film, but they could easily make it into more of a psychological thriller or detective story. If anyone could make that work, it's Nolan. The only way they could one up TDK in action is possibly if they bought in several villains at once with lots of double crossing and backstabbing.

  • Just got back from seeing it. Ledger seriously saves this movie; it didn't have THAT much else to go on and I agree about Bale's voice; I laughed quite a lot the first time I heard him speak.

The Go single was a real treat to me back in those days... I still love Alone and have yet to see it performed live.

Well Nolan insists that he didn't even intend on the sequel, but who really knows? I'd just hate, hate to see a Spiderman 3 here (we won't even mention that other travesty here) so please no pick-a-villain-mix. I'm sure Nolan could pull out another Batman as good or or better than Begins, but I don't know TDK can be outdone by anyone, especially given all the intangibles.

I sort of agree with this. Besides Joker, there's a lot of stuff I could live without or would like to change.

But hey, it beats Batman Forever!

yeah the voice sucked. It wasn't that bad in Batman Begins at all. I wonder why he changed it.
i heard an interview where he said he had a hard time getting into the voice in BB but was able to slip in and out of it more easily this time. i thought it sounded ridiculous in both movies, personally. :)

ok, i've now seen this movie three times. i barely ever go to the movies, nevermind seeing the same one multiple times. i just love everything about it. :D

really? i thought the joker card at the end of BB made it obvious the sequel was already in the works. he didn't really set up another movie like that at the end of TDK.

I thought it was much worse this time around. When he was yelling at Joker at the end while Joker was hanging upside down......wow.....he sounded really silly.

but yeah, the movie ruled. his voice didn't ruin it at all for me.

every role depp plays ends up being cheesey as hell... maybe he just hasnt had the right roles to work with... but wonka and todd were well established in my mind before he took on those roles and he wasnt what i expected... so i hope if he does get involved he surprises me like heath did

not sure who he'd play though... some sort of scissor handed pirate?

I thought he was great in Donnie Brasco, Blow, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Fear and Loathing..., What's Eating Gilbert Grape and a few others. I think a spate of OTT and light-hearted recent characters have perhaps put him into a bit of a stereotype. But if you look back over his career he's shown a real versatility and a lot of skill as an actor.

i just dont think he has any interest in returning to that kindof legitimate acting anytime soon... he hasnt given me any reason to believe otherwise... we shall see...

yeah there wasn't a set-up this time. but here's something interesting from "The Gotham Times," which was one of the websites set up in the Dark Knight viral marketing campaign, that may shed a little light on the next film.

This is from Gotham Times Issue #2: Letters to the Editor

    "Dent Cannot Be Believed"

So now Assistant District Attorney Harvey Dent pretends to turn upside-down the city, speaking of truth, justice and so on. Should we believe him? I think not. The more he's posing as a man of justice, the more it means he is corrupted like every powerful man in the city.

Right now Dent seems different from the others, but that is only part of the game, so he can get power by the fools who support him. A man who comes in the darkest moments to save the situation exists only in fables; in real life, people like that have always had other (bad) intentions.

But with Batman there's a more extensive history of villains collaborating. Spiderman 3 was so bad because the villains had no relation to each other. It could easily be carried off by having the villains collaborate and interact rather than having a storyline that jumps from one bad guy to another.
