ok guys I love how this is basically turning into "Walker's blog about the Jays" anyways they sure rebounded well on sat/sun and if Rios remains hurt it looks like Reed might get enough ABs to officially be amongst the league leaders in batting average. the real question that I've been keeping my eye on is whether the team can bat .300

2-0 lead in the 7th and looking to extend the streak to 4. Shaun Marcum did a heckuva job in his brief start. One hit ball through five was great to see. If we can continue to get wins from 4 and 5 in the rotation, the rest of the season looks good.

I thought this was in the bad. also your thoughts on what to do when rios gets back as he will be the everyday right fielder, should they platoon the other three(!) guys or deal someone? I think trading hillenbrand for a pitcher would be best as Hinske has too big a deal and looks like a defensive gem in right, Johnson is going to win the batting title if he gets enough ABS and the Cat is too hard an out for a lefty.

I'm not sure what to do when Rios gets back other than play him in right. At least they now have some extra bats to use as bait. I'm thinking Hinske has increased his value enough to see him part of a deal. If that doesn't happen, Hillebrand is the next logical bat to leave. The only problem is the apparent lack of quality pitchers available. I'm not as keen on the NL pitchers people are throwing around. If they can't perform that consistently in the NL, what makes people think they can get the tough AL hitters out. Oh well, time to see.

the point about the NL pitchers is valid but I think using Hillenbrand who has been a .300 hitter the last two years and has shown he has solid power we could acquire a decent middle relief guy, maybe even a good 4 or 5 starter if we throw in Pat Borders or something

Well Overbay gave a little shout out to the band today on espn.com.

He was being interviewed by Buster Olney.

(Olney) What music do you download in your I-Pod?
(Overbay) I have a couple of I-Pods and they both have a lot of Pearl Jam. I'm a huge fan of them -- great guys from top to bottom.

I am a big fan of Overbay after watching him over the whole year. Great hitter, tough out, can crush a mistake, great gap power, racks up the doubles, has good power, high average, great defender as well. All around solid first-baseman

I believe if the players J.P. brought in play like they should we can finally compete for the east title, or least the wild card.

    Any thoughts, good or bad?

Sad thing is that the Jays are in the toughest division in Baseball with the Yanks and Sox, every year we have to be super solid to have a chance. Anyother division in Baseball and the Jays would be right there.

yeah I didn't know a lot about him coming into last year so was unsure what to excpect other than "doubles machine" which seems to be the only anaylsis anyone ever gives about him but the more I wacthed him the more I liked him, fantastic D and everything you said there. That being said I guess he's batting 2nd which I think should be Rios with Overbay hitting 6th.

Am I the only one who thinks the jays might be a little better than what everyone is saying? I means sure teh sox got Dice K and he looks like he might bethe real deal here but is JD Drew that much of an upgrade? and who knows what manny will do etc etc. The yanks are still there but seem more failable than in recent years of course this could be because they haven't won the sereies in a while so it just looks that way but I mean with Thomas (anyone who expects last years numbers I think will be dissapointed but I feel he will really help Glaus and vernon get pitches to hit). but yeah are we better than they think or just worse than I think?

The only thing that concerns me is after Roy and A.J who will step it up in the rotation, actually A.J concerns me to, he's inconsistant, and hurt alot.

I think the make or break factor in a lot of ways is going to be Alex Rios.....are we going to get the first half of last season Rios or the second half...... all be it impaired by injury Rios. I was amazed at how good this guy was last year during the firs half and not just with the bat he looked to be the complete player. If he can return to form that outfield looks awesome with Johnson and Wells arguably the best in baseball!!!

Good to see some real protection in the form of the Big Hurt for Wells. I never really understood the "protection" thing, but I'm going with the term today.

I really like Ohka and think the guy will do wonders this year. Not a bad looking starting staff with Burnett, Chacin, The Doc, Ohka and whoever they decide to be the fifth starter.

And I really dig the commercials that they run with the guys from the team to drum up support for tix.
You've changed your place in this world!

Nice start to the season opening up with a 5 to 3 extra innings win over the defending AL east champ Tigers......Rodney tagged with the loss in the 10th.

On pace for a perfect season boys, in actuallity I really notice what depth we had in the batting order I mean if overbay has a bad game let's say we have four guys behind him who can pick it up it's great everyone is picking them to finish thrid again but I think we're better than that.
