I am a big fan of Overbay after watching him over the whole year. Great hitter, tough out, can crush a mistake, great gap power, racks up the doubles, has good power, high average, great defender as well. All around solid first-baseman

I believe if the players J.P. brought in play like they should we can finally compete for the east title, or least the wild card.

    Any thoughts, good or bad?

Sad thing is that the Jays are in the toughest division in Baseball with the Yanks and Sox, every year we have to be super solid to have a chance. Anyother division in Baseball and the Jays would be right there.

yeah I didn't know a lot about him coming into last year so was unsure what to excpect other than "doubles machine" which seems to be the only anaylsis anyone ever gives about him but the more I wacthed him the more I liked him, fantastic D and everything you said there. That being said I guess he's batting 2nd which I think should be Rios with Overbay hitting 6th.

Am I the only one who thinks the jays might be a little better than what everyone is saying? I means sure teh sox got Dice K and he looks like he might bethe real deal here but is JD Drew that much of an upgrade? and who knows what manny will do etc etc. The yanks are still there but seem more failable than in recent years of course this could be because they haven't won the sereies in a while so it just looks that way but I mean with Thomas (anyone who expects last years numbers I think will be dissapointed but I feel he will really help Glaus and vernon get pitches to hit). but yeah are we better than they think or just worse than I think?

The only thing that concerns me is after Roy and A.J who will step it up in the rotation, actually A.J concerns me to, he's inconsistant, and hurt alot.

I think the make or break factor in a lot of ways is going to be Alex Rios.....are we going to get the first half of last season Rios or the second half...... all be it impaired by injury Rios. I was amazed at how good this guy was last year during the firs half and not just with the bat he looked to be the complete player. If he can return to form that outfield looks awesome with Johnson and Wells arguably the best in baseball!!!

Good to see some real protection in the form of the Big Hurt for Wells. I never really understood the "protection" thing, but I'm going with the term today.

I really like Ohka and think the guy will do wonders this year. Not a bad looking starting staff with Burnett, Chacin, The Doc, Ohka and whoever they decide to be the fifth starter.

And I really dig the commercials that they run with the guys from the team to drum up support for tix.

Nice start to the season opening up with a 5 to 3 extra innings win over the defending AL east champ Tigers......Rodney tagged with the loss in the 10th.

On pace for a perfect season boys, in actuallity I really notice what depth we had in the batting order I mean if overbay has a bad game let's say we have four guys behind him who can pick it up it's great everyone is picking them to finish thrid again but I think we're better than that.

agreed I had the game on and after the tigers score 32 runs in the third or whatever the hell happened I went and got grocereies and just left the tv on all day but we just kept coming, if that glaus ball drops in then it's our game, reassuring that we have this kind of punch though

I thought we had the right guy up in the nineth with reed johnson, he comes through in the clutch, but not today.

for sure the one concern I have about reed is that he might burn out playing everyday, like the last month or two of the year he dropped off a bit and I think it's because he's been sort of a platoon guy for most of his career, maybe he's over it by now we'll see in august/september. The thing I like about this team (last years as well but more this years) is that as cliche as it sounds we're never out of it, look at today, makes things worth watching

So I take it AJ had a melt down in third ......Hopefully it didn't shake his confidence too much....On the positive side it was nice to see the Jays put up seven runs against the Tiger bullpen!!! Now lets start the year off with a series win by winning tomorrow!!!

Yeah according to TSN.ca it's been rescedualled for sept.10 or something, I got excited because I was hoping it would be like a 2-3 rain delary and I wouldn't miss it while in class but instead I just miss it anyways and have to still go to class.

That does suck, a little snow doesn't hurt anybody, it would add to the game.

Sound more like hockey wether than basball weather in Motown

The Toronto Blue Jays' road game scheduled for Thursday afternoon against the Detroit Tigers has been postponed because of cold weather.

Toronto's Troy Glaus drove in the winning run in the Blue Jays' season opener on Monday.
    (Mike Carlson/Associated Press)
The game will be made up on Sept. 10 at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Toronto and Detroit split the opening two games of their season-opening three-game series.

The defending American League champion Tigers shelled the Blue Jays for eight runs in the third inning, sending starting pitcher A.J. Burnett to the showers early, en route to a 10-9 win Wednesday afternoon at Comerica Park.

Troy Glaus's bases-loaded single with one out in the 10th inning paved the way for a 5-3 Blue Jays win over the hometown Tigers in the season opener for both teams Monday.

Toronto was going to send left-hander Gustavo Chacin to the mound Thursday, while Detroit was scheduled to start Justin Verlander, last season's rookie of the year in the American League.

The Jays open a three-game series Friday in Tampa Bay against the Devils Rays before returning to Toronto for their home opener on April 9 against the Kansas City Royals.

thinking about the other thread going on somewhere on here about the scoring and errors vs. earned and unearned runs, I wonder what the rules say about an outfielder losing the ball in the snow and turning a single into a triple, is that the pithcers responsibility?

UPDATE: The Jays-Tigers game scheduled for today was postponed due to cold weather.

LOL, i remember seeing the blue jays playing in snow before, what a stupid reason for cancelling a game, in my opinion.

well, it's not just the players they consider when calling a game in this type of weather, it's also the playing customer. I doubt the crowd today will be close to what it was yesterday, and that was very sparse. It's freezing today in Windsor, I wouldn't want to be outside for long. I can totally understand why they called it.

Plus, now I might have a chance to go see them in September when they come back for the rescheduled game, sweet

Well A.J just needs to trust his fastball a little more and then use his off speed pitches to get batters out.
