I'll be flying over after work Friday evening... which means I'm usually wrecked and look like shit by the time I get there, then we've to go straight to his sisters birthday... shite must get a pressie and bribe HER into liking me anyway

I dunno... any advice other than to NOT be myself or anywhere close to myself at all?

since you are flying, make sure you take some kind of hair device that will get out the frizzy airplane seat knots in your hair!!! i HATE that.

Well first up, remain calm.

Secondly he likes you, loves you even, and they love him, so I think you'll be fine. Just try to listen more than you speak, and don't forget to breathe. Both of which will probably be enhanced by the fact you'll be tired from the flight. It'll be ok Hels.

I can't imagine his parents judging you at all, because of the way him and his sister are. Both lovely, down to earth people. They will see that you make him happy, VERY happy, and they will like you for that reason, if not many, many more.

thanks Jeanie... I know, remaining calm should be the fun bit! His parents both seem reasonably fun people according to evolutionary who is also an in-law of the family... he'll be there too... whether he likes it or not

thanks Dave... that's why they're so keen to meet me too! And the sister will be there too. There'll be a few people there that I know, so at least it's not gonna be just me, him and the parents :eek:

It's usually only if you have to sleep on the flight and I doubt you'll have to sleep on the flight right? It's just like bed head. Or that just fucked look a girl gets sometimes. You won't be on the flight long enough for it to be a problem I'm guessing.

nah, it's less than an hour... I can never even get two minutes of sleep on Ryanair... ooohh although it's aer lingus this time, less of the theatrics!

If it makes you feel any better, the meet the parents game is torturous for all of us! Never gets any easier. But you'll be ok me thinks. They'll love you, it's just not possible that they wouldn't. And if they give you any grief you've got a legion of friends to sort em out! But it's not possible they won't like you anyway. You'll be fine.

Seeing as I ferried to and from Ireland I can't comment on the airlines although my girlfriend Bridget swears by aer lingus.

it's not so important to him whether they like me or not... so he says... so it's not the extra pressure of 'if you don't get on with my mom, I can't go out with you'

I'm kinda looking forward to getting it out of the way... the mother's tried to meet me a couple of times before and it just hasn't worked out. I've spoken to her on the phone and she seems easy to have a laugh with. Ya know the way you know it will be fine but you just can't help but dread it?

And yeh, I'd be mad to not drink... that's why you and I get on so well Jeanie

Ryanair are cheap, the staff are all eastern european and pretty badly paid and treated so it's the only airline the hosts/hostesses aren't expected to smile... but sometimes it's worth paying the extra to fly aer lingus (sometimes it's the same price or cheaper anyway)

Oh well then! If you've talked to her on the phone already and you have a laugh it'll be fine! But I understand the dread bit. I came back inside from having a cigarette the other day to discover Mum having quite the conversation on the phone with a fella. :rolleyes: I could have sunk into the biggest hole in the ground and wish to be covered over!!! And I'm nearly 40!!! So yes, you'll always dread it!!

Seriously though, He adores you for you and his family will see how happy you both are. If his big sis approves then so will his folks. Just be yourself, you're a wonderful person and have absolutely no reason to be nervous

yeah, sounds like QANTAS and Jetstar. Same deal. I always do my best to get QANTAS simply for the service and safety record. Jetstar is more your cattle class deal. Not my cuppa at all. But you do ok keeping an eye out for special deals.
