conklin shouldn't have made that bone head play behind the net. period. i'm sure he didn't have to play a few warm up games for that. but ya, it's too bad he was put in that position, but he made the bad play, and it wasn't because he had lack of ice time. if the first shot on net goes in, yes. bad give away behind the net, no. i'm not going to rule him out yet, though. he has to step up now. it can be done. :)

it wasn't Conklin's fault.. dont talk about him that way. We need positive energy not comments like that. I can't believe they didnt' give him any warm up shots.. just put him in and that was it.. he did good for what he was given. I have faith.
  • take game 2 and come home tied!!! :)

    GO OILERS! :D

It takes a team to play and win not just a goalie. Remember that fellow Oiler fans.

Can't blame anyone for feeling like the wind was knocked out of them after that announcement though. I do agree with you on the warm up shots, he should have got a few. But Conklin made a really really stupid play behind the net....even Conklin himself admits that. And all the warm up shots in the world wouldn't have changed that play.

YEAH!!! You're so right Earthgirl!!!!!!!! It's devastating to lose Roli like this, but we have a VERY talented team!! And we're still gonna do it!!!! GO OILERS!!!!!!!!! :D

Oh yeah, I watched the replays!! He should have shot the puck back around the boards and then got back in his net. And Smith was there. On TSN tonight he said that the two of them weren't communicating well enough on the play. Conklin hasn't played in like 2 months, so no one can expect him to be perfect. Can't win every game.....gotta lose one!!

"I just held onto the puck too long," conceded Conklin, who went 8-5-1 with one shutout during 18 regular-season appearances. I didn't make the play quickly, you know? It's not a mistake I think I would normally make."

poor guy.. Ive met him and he's really nice.. a really great guy.. very shy tho.. he lacks a lot of confidence. Both him and Juicy can get the job done if they want to.. but like I said before.. it's a team effort..

i was devastated to find out after the game about Roli's departure from the series. However, it's not like the Oilers have to completely depend on the guy to win, i really hope Conklin can pull it out. And that play behind the net was so so so stupid. But i think he can deal with it, he was an olympian wasn't he? (albeit ont he US team) I really hope it doesn't shatter his confidence for the rest of the series.

    Canes in 5.

What part of 'this is the Edmonton Oilers thread' do you not get??? Post your Oilers losing crap in your Carolina Hurricanes thread. That's why you have it. We are Oiler fans in here and don't want to hear your nonsense. None of us have come into your Hurricanes thread posting 'Oilers in 6' or anything like that....

Hate to see Rolloson go down like that. This thing is far from over though. I hope my Canes can win 3 more. Its gonna be tough. The Oilers have a hell of a team. Geez, Im consoling the enemy! I guess its that Ive read a few pages of posts and all you Oil fans just seem so nice. Although, I have to admit, after dealing with Buffalo fans last round, Ive kinda lost perspective on sportsmanship. Good luck guys, its gonna be a long series. Go Canes!

Again though there is a thread to cheer on your Canes so it would just be better to take the Canes cheering there. GO OILERS GO!!! :D:D

    Canes in 5.

hes saying your national team sucks

and yeah I had predicted Canes in 6 earlier but with the loss of roloson I say canes in 5, if the oilers get lucky.
    9/20/05 - Quebec City
    9/22/05 - Halifax
    6/19/08 - Camden
    6/28/08 - Mansfield
    9/07/11 - Montreal
    5/05/16 - Quebec City
  • if the first game was any indication, we're in for a great series...

can't wait for tonight!!! tie it up and come home to win two more...best scenario - edmonton wins in six in the homeland! :)

    GO OILERS! :D

I'm cheering for the Canes as I've been a long time fan, but I have to say that I've been VERY impressed with the Oilers during the playoffs. they have worked very hard and had top notch goaltending which you need for a deep run.

These guys are resiliant and if anything I see the Oilers playing that much better now that Roloson is out because they know they can't leave their net minder to "hold down the fort" while they take chances offensively... they are going to be much more focussed defensively which is going to give the Canes fits...

I said Canes in 7 before the series started, and with Roloson out there is no reason to change that prediction.

Hopefully this post won't get me run off by some really great folks here.

    Cheers,

With an attitude like that the cup will probably never make it back to Canada.

Atleast you guys can still play with those silly medals.

I don't expect any of this to stick btw.

blasphemy from north of edmonton sugar ray!!! :D

just kidding, neither one of these teams are a joke or they wouldn't be there. i think the canes were more the team that was expected to be there, but the oilers have played some great hockey and taken some very good teams down. all the makings of a great stanley cup i think.

personally i'd like to see the oilers win in 6 so they can win it at home, but either way this should be a really good series. i wasn't happy with the outcome of the first game obviously, but we can't say it wasn't an exciting game!

...how in the hell cam ward stopped that last flurry of shots - especially the last shot...i'll never know! standing on his head...

i'm hoping to see a great game tonight...oilers on top this time, though ;)

    go oilers! :D

Well, I just saw different footage of the collision that took out Roloson, from a different angle than before. I blamed Bergeron for this accident because I felt like he plowed Ladd into Roloson. In the footage I just saw, Bergeron clearly doesn't hit Ladd hard enough to send him flying into Roloson the way that he did. Even the 3 commentators on SportsNet (where I saw the footage) think that Ladd took the opportunity as a free pass to run Roloson. Not cool.......

Yes, but there are more of you than there are of us on here. Besides, what fun is it if you can't interact with the enemy?
Who you guys starting tonight? Will it be Markanen? I hear his personality is more relaxed than Conklin. After the bad break at the end for Conklin, it may weigh on him. I just hope we come out skating for Game 2. We sure didnt show up for Game 1 until the 3rd.
And just so I don't get accused of hijacking. Chris Pronger is awesome! Hard to believe he wasn't one of the 3 finalists for the Norris.

We still haven't heard who's starting tonight.
  • no offense to conklin...and it's not because of the ending to the last game...but personally i would rather see markanen...just my opinion...

i remember watching it and thinking bergeron was hitting him at an angle...not directly at the net....i agree prljamgirl, not cool.

You can make a pretty strong argument to go back with TY again tonight.

It would be a huge confidence boost for him if MacT started hi basically saying we still have faith in you now its up to you. If he gets shelled you can always go back to Usi Saturday night back home

Plus if you start Usi tonight and he craps the bed now you have two goaltenders with shaky confidence and no real options for Saturday night.

    Go Oil GO!!!!!!!!!!!

I would go with Conks tonight. As a fellow goaltender I know that snafu wasnt all his fault. Hes a pro, he can bounce back. Either way neither goaltender has played in over 2 months so I just took $200 to the Red Rock Casino and put in on Carolina tonight at -170:)
