Weren't they going to make a movie based on this book? What happened to that?

I heard the same thing a while back and that James Fanco wanted to direct it. Don't know what's become of it though. I think it would be very difficult to adapt the book into a movie because the writing is so poetic and I'm not sure it would translate to film all that well. It certainly would take a very talented director to get it done properly while maintaining the integrity of the book. One thing is for sure, if it was made into a movie it would be extremely violent and gory.

The movie is good especially if you are a Buk fan. :D
Truth is I expected more from Mickey Rourke, he wasn't quite what I expected.
Matt Dillon was better in Factotum and even Ben Gazzara in Tales of Ordinary Madness was closer to Buk's persona. (according to my opinion of course!)

I thought Barfly was shite. Embarrasing even.

The best movie of the bunch is Tales of Ordianry Madness IMO, followed by Factotum. I own every Bukowski movie and documentary except Barfly because I have no time for it. Also I can't stand Mickey Rourke.

I read it a couple of years ago. Not an easy read. Would probably play a bit like the movie 'The Proposition'.

Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne. The subtitle is Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History.

Very well written and researched and very enjoyable despite being filled with some horrific stories about the clash of 2 civilizations.

Finished "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood earlier this week. Fantastic book. Very 1984-ish. I haven't pulled for a protaganist as hard as I pulled for the one in this book in a long time.

Now back to Song of Ice and Fire book 5. About halfway through and put it down probably because I was readying all of them back to back and needed a break from the world.

I just finished Nightwoods by Charles Frazier. I love his writing and his wonderful knowledge of Appalachian people and the woods and survival. (he also wrote Cold Mountain -which book of course was much better than the film)

it's okay, but definitely not his best writing. if anything, i would recommend The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle instead.. .

I haven't read that book in a very long time but I remember it being very disturbing! I'll have to read it again, what a crazy and scary concept.
