The date on the tombstone says Jin died the date of the crash. So either he's alive and still on the island and was left behind and Sun is pretending he's dead as part of the coverup or he dies before he leaves the island.
Yeah it would be a real cheat on their part for him just to be Kate's son named "Aaron", when they obviously were saying at the end of that episode he was Claire's Aaron.
The minute I saw Michael, I thought, I saw that one coming (as many of us did).
But, then, Jin was having a flashback, not a flash forward.
I did NOT see that one coming.
I assumed he was having a flash forward. I thought he'd fallen back into working for Sun's dad and as a result, missed out on the birth. I thought, how tragic and sad. Turns out, it was tragic and sad after all, but for different reasons. Intense.
So, was Jin among the Oceanic 6 and died back home or did he die on the island and had a "memorial" headstone?
Btw, I love Hurley. He's so sweet, and he looked so handsome in his suit.
My grade for the episode: A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Jin flashback and Sun flashforward was fucking brilliant. WIthout a doubt the best episode this season.

He probably died trying to get off the island. The other survivors are keeping it secret about what was going on on the island so they (or just Sun) decided to just say he died in the crash.
He is not alive because there would be no reason for Sun to pretend he's dead when she was alone with Hurley.

When I watched the episode, I noticed the year, but I didn't see the month, and I still didn't put much stock into it, because my mind was racing.
Interesting.
So, if Jin isn't a part of the Oceanic 6 and all the members have been revealed (as you suggested earlier), does that mean Aaron is included in the six?
No time to be void or save up on life. You got to spend it all.

But did they ever actually say anything to indicate he was dead?
I realize that Hurley is a very laid back guy, but he was very nonchalant when he mentioned going to "see" Jin. It was at that moment that I realized Jin was dead (or "dead") and I thought the way Hurley suggested going to "see" him was strange. It lacked any sort of compassion or condolence.
Then, at the cemetery, I don't recall Sun mentioning he was dead (E.g., saying she wished he was still alive). If I remember correctly (I really need to start re-watching episodes, too ), she said she missed him, maybe something about wishing he'd been there, and that she named the baby Ji Yeon, like he wanted, but nothing to confirm he was dead.
He's not "there", but it doesn't mean he's dead. He could still be on the island.

Fantastic episode!
It was also nice to finally discover who Ben's man on the boat was. I know most believed it was Michael, but I'm glad it was finally confirmed.
Also, I wonder why Hurley was happy when Sun said no one else was coming.

I paid attention to the tombstone while watching, first glance saw "2004" and said to the wife, "Jin is gonna die in a few days cause its Christmas 2004", then saw a clearer shot with the Sept 22, and figure Jin may still be alive on the island...wonder if the stone was there from the fake wreckage before Sun got "rescued" and if there was one for her as well.
I knew something was up with Jin when he was buying Panda #1 and received the call, said "I kno, I'm on my way" and then we saw Sun saying "call my husband" afterwards..just didn't piece the flashbacktoforwrd thing together.
So the writers must read our little thread here and threw in these fine tidbits of dialogue...
1. At the beginning when Sun asks Kate regarding Juliet telling Jack the poison gas house was a power station..."why would she lie to Jack?"
And Kate replies "force of habit"....classic stuff, maybe the best non-Hurley/Sawyer line in all 4 seasons.
B. And of course when Juliet is trying to convince Sun not to go to Locke's camp and she says "I realize I haven't always been completely honest..."
wonder if the stone was there from the fake wreckage before Sun got "rescued" and if there was one for her as well.
OK, looking again at the screencap I see the left side has the date March 20, 1980 and no death date, so I assume thats Sun's birthday and they are sharing a plot, so the marker would not have been up before she returned (at least not that one, maybe they replaced it when she strolled into Seoul alive and well).

First and foremost, last night's episode was not only my favorite of the season, by far, but in my top 5 of all LOST episodes! WOW!!!
First of all, I definatly don't think Jin is dead. The grave stone read that he died in September 0f 2004, in the crash. I do believe he was left behid probably making sure that Sun was off!! Totally didn't see the split stories coming. Flash-forward for Sun and Flash-back for Jin. I was wondering why he would go back to work for her dad and why he was so angry and hostile again. Telling the dude he would rip his head off, and the look he gave the cashier is not the new Jin, so I knew something was up. Plus, Sun kept saying that she wished he was there, and that was it. Hurley almost sarcastic, "let's go see Jin", also is clue to me that he is not there. Hurley is a big teddy bear and would have been more emotional at the moment in my mind!
So now the big question is, is there another Oceanic survivior, or is Aaron the 6th. I guess it doesn't make sense that he wouldn't be considered one. I think that maybe they hid his existence or Ben brings him to Kate later and that is why he wasn't counted as one, but now I am not so sure. And who will die next week. I hope it isn't any main characrter. Kill Miles!

Don't know who dies next week, but Sun and Jin are numbers 5 & 6. The promos last week said we'd discover the last of the Oceanic 6 this week.
Unless of course, we're guessing Jin dies before leaving the island whereupon we're back at Aaron being one of the 6 again.
Actually, I think that Michael is number 6 and that Jin is one of the 8 that Kate says got off the island but die before rescue. Jin probably dies doing something to save Sun and the baby. I saw some foreshadowing in his comments about following her and making sure nothing happens to her and the baby.
The flash back and flash forward used in the episode was incredible.... just shows once again that the writers know where they are going and that they can manipulate us anyway they want (much like Ben).

I kind of agree. I agree that Jin is not part of Oceanic 6, am now wondering if Aaron really was the other part. If Jin is one who dies of the 8, than Claire is probably the other one.
However, I really don't think Jin is dead. I think you are right about the foreshadowing, they have done it all season, with Ben and Sayid, and Kate and Aaron, I think that maybe something will happen, and he will have to stay behind and fight in order for Sun to get off.

What episode did Kate say 8 died after trying to get off the island? I totally don't remember, but I see all you guys talking about it.
This is probably the best season yet. I wonder if they will have a season after the rescue.
I'd imagine Kate's kid doesn't count in the Oceanic 6 because she doesn't have the baby until she is off the island. right?
I kind of though Walt for a bit to be in the Oceanic 6, but honestly child actors grow up, and if they shoot the episode in like 3 years... he'll look too old right?

well technically nobody ever knew aaron was on the plane.. so who knows.. i don't think he is one of the 6.. and i agree i think it might be michael.
so i noticed that the coordinates that ben gave michael were deifferent than faraday's numbers to lapidus.. so ben told michael a lie.. he ended up like dessie and floated around for a while.. came back to the island.. and good ole ben was there to kidnap walt again. so now he has michaels attention and his trust to do whatever he needs him to do. i also think in the end michael will do the right thing and somehow get the survivors off the island. but for serious.. i would pay $1,000,000 if they brought michael back to the island and sawyer pops his head out and says "Lucy, you gots some spaining to do"..
and its looking more and more like michaels gonna be the man in the casket.. just my opinion.

Very intersting theories, here. I like them. That would be crazy if Ben did have Walt.
I have a hard time with Aaron being a part of the Oceanic 6, mysrlf, I have never thought he was. After last night, I am not sure what to think, but still leaning towards it not being Aaron.

Yeah, I thought that as well last night. He's already changed his name once. And it would explain why Kate would never want to go to his funeral and since he's changed his name - what family would he have?
But, why would his death have broken Jack up so much?

well in the preview for next week ben says "a father will do practically anything for his son". maybe walt is shacking up with Jacob.. and jacob sent him to locke to help him. walts def real and on that island. and michael isnt going anywhere without him.

no i dont think it does explain why kate wouldnt go. these people are being threatened to keep their mouths shut. they have to do what is said or else they face some bad consequences.
what if they are offing the oceanic 6. hurley went nuts and all of a sudden scary man showed up to ask questions and hurley was scared shitless.. well what if hurley ends up dead later on.. and then someone else.. maybe sayid.. i dunno.. so when michael turns up dead it pushes jack over the edge.. he almost kills himself cause he knows he's probably next. kate didnt go to the funeral cause she can't risk it. shes got aaron. she can't be seen as cracking like jack is.

Wow, that's a very interesting theory and very plausible.
I just think Kate would be more upset than the way she acted when she met Jack in the finale if that was the case. But then again Kate is a tough one to read lately.
I'm also trying to figure out what her agenda is right now. I think she likes being the queen bee of the camp but having Juliet and Charlotte around is starting to get to her.

My theory since Sayid's episode is that Sayid is in the coffin, and Kate doesn't want to go because he was forced one or all of the Oceanic 6.

Sun saying she wished he was there and not coming right out saying, "I wish you weren't dead." is not enough to convince me he is still alive. Most people who would talk to a grave wouldn't say, "I wish you weren't dead.", they would do just what Sun did.

well in the preview for next week ben says "a father will do practically anything for his son". maybe walt is shacking up with Jacob.. and jacob sent him to locke to help him. walts def real and on that island. and michael isnt going anywhere without him.
To another post, Maybe it is Walt in the casket?
no i dont think it does explain why kate wouldnt go. these people are being threatened to keep their mouths shut. they have to do what is said or else they face some bad consequences.
what if they are offing the oceanic 6. hurley went nuts and all of a sudden scary man showed up to ask questions and hurley was scared shitless.. well what if hurley ends up dead later on.. and then someone else.. maybe sayid.. i dunno.. so when michael turns up dead it pushes jack over the edge.. he almost kills himself cause he knows he's probably next. kate didnt go to the funeral cause she can't risk it. shes got aaron. she can't be seen as cracking like jack is.

Sun saying she wished he was there and not coming right out saying, "I wish you weren't dead." is not enough to convince me he is still alive. Most people who would talk to a grave wouldn't say, "I wish you weren't dead.", they would do just what Sun did.
