Interesting talk comparing Hughes to Mariano in '95/'96. Kay spoke of it agian last night. Hughes has been lights out. Bruney not so much.

they need to send hughes down pretty soon so he can get his innings. I don't know what they were saying about Hughes and Mo, but Hughes has more then one or two pitches. He should be given every chance to start.

Randy Johnson would have been a great reliver too. One of the best, but if you have a guy who can be a starter you gotta give him every chance to do it.

they were just saying Mo started games in 95 before going to the pen. Then always said he was going to eventually be a starter. Kinda similar to Hughes. & we all know what happened with Mo.

Hughes is not going down as far as I've heard. He's staying in the majors this year as a reliever unless a rotation spot needs to be filled. They're looking at what gives them the best chance to win now. & Bruney don't look to nasty yet.

Thats disapointing for me to hear. I think the team needs Hughes to get his innings up so next year he can step into the rotation. I would think as an organization they would like him to get 140 or so innings of work this year.

The difference between Hughes and Mo is when Mo was a starter all he really had was a good fastball. He did not develop his cutter until 1997 while playing catch with Ramiro Mendoza ( i read a story about it recently that is the only reason i recall the details so well). Hughes has 3 major league level pitches he can throw. Guys like that should start not be put in the pen unless they have durability issues (see kerry wood)

Joe said Hughes will stay in the pen for now and that they would have to send him down before starting him again. I would assume the same applies for Aceves. He also said they still see his future as a starter. After getting used to short relief, he wouldn't be able to give them many innings in a start right now. I think he will stay there for the rest of the season, especially with the way he has pitched since being put into the setup role.

He'll be back in six weeks or so with the September callups. Plus Molina is a free agent after this year.

I gues it's better for him to go down and play every day,. but i think he's already better than Molina. Hopefully he's with the team all year next year, and he becomes the Posada to posadas Girardi. A 70/30 split

There's another catcher that's tearing it up in the minors in Jesus Montero. He hits for more power than Cervelli.

Nice pitching from the kids on Old Timer's Day. Haladay shut down Boston so we're back within 1 game in the AL East.

amazing what happens when you develop a rhythm, don't get into many deep counts and attack the zone as opposed to nibbling.

Aceves now 6-1. He and Hughes have been huge out of the pen.

I'm excited to see the boys winning these close games. Another one tonight. Sox down 6-2 to to Rangers= so things could be all tied up at the end of the night.
