well maybe the band and/or the fan club feel it is important to support those who have supported them so greatly over the years. As I stated in a previous post Jeff Ament has personally thanked Matt in an interview for being so nice to him over the years. In 2006 when PJ played Camden Matt (who is also the Sixers courtside announcer) set up a basketball game for Jeff with some players from the Sixers and local college players. The bottom line is Matt has been very supportive of this band over the years. With the amount of PJ Matt plays and that WMMR has played it clearly has added to the support PJ receives in this area. It's no wonder PJ plays in Philly almost every year - the support here is insane and Matt has played a part in that.0 -
I haven't posted here in a while, but this seemed like a worthy cause. Here is what I sent to the program director:
Mr. Weston,
I would like to request that you reconsider your decision to discontinue the “10 Club @ 10:00” with Matt Cord. I am a loyal MMR listener, MMR Card Holder, and devoted Pearl Jam fan who absolutely loved this segment. Especially with the band coming to town in 2 weeks to play to 50,000 people, I would love to see this segment continue.
I am sure there are many factors you considered in your decision to remove this program from the air, but I urge you to consider the fact that PJ has an extremely loyal following in Philly. I truly believe this is largely due to MMR’s devotion to them, whether it be the 10 club, the full broadcasts of PJ concerts in Philly, or just the regular airplay they receive on your station. Segments like the 10 Club are what differentiates MMR from the “other guys” and makes your station truly legendary. Please don’t let the other short-term pressures of advertising and the record industry influence you to make a decision that runs counter to the great history and character of your station.
I urge you to reconsider and bring back the 10 Club!
Thank you,"Darkness comes in waves, tell me, why invite it to stay?"0 -

Dear WMMR listener:
Thanks for your recent email regarding WMMR’s Pearl Jam feature, The Ten Club. The Monday-Thursday feature has been placed on hiatus. You deserve an explanation why.
Our night-time host, Matt Cord loves Pearl Jam as much as you do and was also quite upset at the programming change. Matt is one of the best radio hosts in the country. The fact we are not as competitive at night, ratings-wise, as in our other dayparts leads me to deduce the cause as a musical one and certainly not the host’s.
20 minutes of Pearl Jam music every night isn’t the sole reason for the change but when combined with myriad features (The Perfect 10- a listener programmed hour of songs each night at 9pm, The 11 O’clock News- a block of all new songs at 11pm, etc) it creates a somewhat inconsistent experience when tuning into WMMR at night. The box of chocolates analogy may be good for Forrest Gump but not so much for night time ratings.
We have also pulled these other features as well. We will evaluate the move in 8 weeks.
I thank you for your support thus far and for your passionate involvement in WMMR’s programming. WMMR plays more Pearl Jam than any other station in the USA. Trust we’ll offer plenty of special programming surrounding their upcoming concerts in Philadelphia.
Thank you again for providing us with feedback,
Sincerely,
Bill Weston, program director WMMRIgnoring Rusted Signs0 -
Bill Weston was the best thing that happened to that station in years. You have to trust his judgement on this one.
Since his arrival, the station has done so many different cool things - promotional things, etc.Don't come closer or I'll have to go0 -
I got a response from Mr. Bill Weston, and if this guy responds to every email with such detail as he did mine, he's going to be pretty busy. I appreciate his explanation and I hope the people in Philly over the next 8 weeks, do their part to get the programming changed back, if it is possible. I can't believe PJ doesn't have a bigger following in Philly?

Mr. Bill Weston,
I am a huge Pearl Jam fan and because of the band I have been to your beautiful city and absolutely loved it. One of the things that made the city most intriguing to me was how incredible the radio station WMMR was. I love the 10 club block and actually told all of my friends about it, here in Indianapolis-actually one of the few stories I did share with my friends regarding my Philly Pearl Jam trip.
I have just heard that you may be possibly doing away with the block and from a lady in Indianapolis who has to listen to a Metallica block at 11pm every week night on X103, on the coolest radio station we have in town; it makes me sad and for the sake of those in Philly I would beg you to reconsider!

For those that sent emails, expect to receive this "explanation" in the near future. For those who scoff at "Jamily" in my name... 9 years ago, when my first daughter was born there were jokes about whether my priority would be my family or PJ. I smiled and quipped "I am a JamilyMan." What was a family joke became a hated term among jammers. Didn't see that one coming!0 -
I love the way he sent back a bulk generic email to everyone who wrote in. I doubt he even read our emails, but then I'm awfully cynical at times.- Busted down the pretext

I understand where he is coming from. They need more than a few hundred people here to increase those ratings. It's really ashame but it's obvious it wasn't work from a ratings standpoint. Bummer.0

why is it an "explanation"??? He states the reasons why the show (and others) were put on hiatus and said that after evaluation it may return... what's wrong with this reasoning???
I would venture to say that after 2 months... the 10C will return with the others being shelved permanently except for maybe the 11 o'clock news which I would suspect to become a once or twice a week thing, if at all. This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.

Yeah, but they could have waited at least until the concerts in the area happened. I'm sure more people than usual would be listening the month of 2 shows - besides it was less than a month away from the three year anniversary of the Ten Club on WMMR when the plug was pulled.- Busted down the pretext
