lol. words cannot express the frustration associated with being a ranger fan.

it's amazing. the entire organization needs a complete overhaul. and that's not happening anytime soon.

Reports surfaced today that TOR GM Brian Burke has given Garnet Exelby's agent permission to find a suitable trade.

Here's a cheap (as compared to so many other solutions) tough defenseman that might not be a bad fortifier for the blue line woes.

As seen in this YouTube video, Marian Gaborik probably wouldn't have to worry too much about Dan "So easy a Cave Man can do it" Carcillo if Exelby were patrolling the blue line.

What do you think Burke would want for Exelby? What would you be willing to part with??

It's important to note that they need to clear some serious cap space - so you can't send either of the R+R sisters up north. Given their cap situation, I'd bet this could get done for Sanguinetti and a 2nd round pick, or something like that.....

So here we are again, another season spiraling down the tubes with a near suicidal fan base running to the cliffs to hurl themselves off. Now normally I would be on my high horse telling all of you to calm down and step away from the ledge, well not today.

This season is over. Throw in the towel, call the time of death, stick a fork in it they are done. This team can't score goals, they can't play defense and they consistently let down the few players that bring it night in and night out. But why highlight any of it here, you know the story and I know the story all too well.

There is no need to play the blame game, because no matter who you point the finger at there is no way to go back in time and fix it. John Tortorella shoulders blame, as does Glen Sather, the Rangers players themselves and don't forget James Dolan. What can be done though, is making a few smart moves, to help the Rangers for the future.

Join me after the jump to see how.

But in order for that to happen it is time for Glen Sather to admit his mistakes. It is time for Sather to drop the dead weight on this team to make room for the future. Especially since having them play night in and night out doesn't exactly seem to be working out. Chris Drury, Ales Kotalik and Michal Rozsival will be here for 2 more years, Wade Redden(who, like I have said, is playing solid hockey but his contract is simply too big) will be here for the next 4 years. If Sather can remove some (since he obviously can't move Drury) of those contracts he might be able to make room for trade deadline deals that build for the future. For example:

The Calgary Flames have been scouting the last four or five Rangers games, that is a fact. What is speculation on my part is the thought process that maybe the Flames are looking to part ways with Dion Phaneuf, who is apparently unhappy in Calgary. (By the way Sean Avery and Phaneuf wont be a problem, both are men and both are being paid millions of dollars, they can work things out I'm sure.)

And while Phaneuf might not be the answer to fixing this season--since too much damage may have been done already--it would allow the Rangers to have one of the best physical defenseman in the game on their roster who at the age of 24 already has 227 points. He already has a fair amount of playoff experience, 25 games worth, and has proven that he can play confident hockey in a pretty big market.

If you want to see another story on this you can take a peek over at our friends Metro Hockey who did a story on this. You can also check out DBMaven's fanpost on Garnet Exelby. Regardless, any way you look at it, the Rangers do have options, it just depends on the man making the calls.

    THIS ABOUT SUMS IT UP

Bringing Dion would be sick. As long as they dnt have to give up any young defensemen. Imagine Dion smashing anyone crossing the blueline heads down??? I agree sather has to go. WTF was he thinking giving redden 6.5 million!!!! He's mad I tell ya. This team went downhill when they first let Avery go. Then they bring him back and tell him we need to put kuffs on you. I'm a diehard blueshirt. All my jerseys are enforcers- Langer, diesel, Simon, stock and Avery. They need everything but goalie. And hanks not getting any younger. Shit I'm returning east on feb 12 and I'll be going to the garden to see what's left of this team. God it's going to hurt!!

Chants heard at the game last night ( besides the whistles and Potvin Sucks chants ) and detailed in todays periodicals:

    " We want a Refund ".....

    " Fire Sather "

    & Finally,

    " Lets Go Yankees " .

Only approx 20 days left till pitchers and catchers report to camp,

soonafter the Olympics and the trade deadline.
    Maybe theyll trade everyone away
except Callahan, Dubinsky,Gaborik, Avery and Henrik.

Since June 2000 ( when Sather took over ) we've only had
    2 playoff round victories.
Why is Jim Dolan so in love with this guy ?

Perhaps a West Coast roadtrip is just what the doctor ordered ,

but I wonder which Ranger team will show up .

    Pffffft.

    Bad night for Del Zotto.

Whats with Brashear sitting out for a 7th straight game ?
( thats 4.4 Million in capspace by the way )
Cant we trade up and free some of that space
if he's sitting out or just not making that impact that he wouldve even 5 years ago ?

Being limited on centermen why would they throw all 3 centers on 1 line ? Its a matter of roster spots and line combinations here, thought that was a bad move- spread those centermen out with other line combinations .
I realize theyre just fishing for that winning line combination but c'mon ....

its becoming more and more frustrating to watch this team on a nightly basis.

TSN figured it was a done deal, they just posted a report that Cgy backed out at the last minute (and they speculate on a few reasons why, i.e. wanted Jokinen in the line up tonight, Kotalik won't waive his NTC, etc, etc).

A lot of us are in the same boat this year, our teams all suck.
See Toronto for example. Burke just traded 85% of his offense for another Bryan McCabe (thanks to TSN) and a good goalie.

ok we got rid of 2 guys who were dead weight ..one of them wasn't even plaing

we got back 1 guy who can hopefully make some magic with gabby and prospal

and another guy who won't be a girl and watch our star get pounded ..18 fights this year

not to mention we lost 6 mil in cap for the next 2 years

both guys are free agents which is awesome also

    thumbs up on this one

it's so nice that other teams are helping us out with our payroll snafu.

see the comments made by jokinen? little unhappy about the trade. let's see if this guy shows a little effort in a blueshirt.

    Business is business.

I was a little little bit sorry ( only for about a minute ) about Higgins,
and thats only due to the family connections here in our local NY / Long Island area,
his brothers an NYFD firefighter and his father is a retired member.
So a local boy doesnt hit it off at home.
He never seemed to click here , alltho i'd say he's a good player.

    Kotalik?
He actually had the upper hand with the no trade clause in this situation ? :o
I'd say we're lucky to be liberated of the millions taking up capspace on this one,..
not to mention him also not working out- on our Blueline--
and quaterbacking the Blueline on the PP ,
    as was all anticipated.

I'd say jokinen and prust are rental players,
unless one or both of them really makes
an impact in the stretch leading up to the seasons end.

( As it looks already, the bottom 4 spots in seeding may
come down to the very last day of the regular season schedule.
Its tight in that Eastern Conference. )

Oh yeah and Prust is second in the NHL with 18 fighting majors.

maybe he's gonna provide that missing element we havent had in a long time.
