to all the fans of our cross town rivals
so sorry to hear about your fallout with your coach Ted Nolan.

Too bad youre the second team he had a fallout with management, and eventually thrown off the bus.

I would go out on a limb and guess that Ted Nolan is done with the NHL now, who else is going to take a chance on this guy ?

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that Mike Barnett has been added to the hockey club’s personnel as Senior Advisor to the President and General Manager and Director of U.S. Amateur Scouting. In his role, Barnett will work closely with Sather, and Assistant General Managers Jim Schoenfeld and Cameron Hope, on player transactions and player personnel, as well as oversee the team’s amateur scouting operations in the United States.

Mike Barnett's long association with the NHL includes the perspective of both a team's general manager and an agent for superstars, including Wayne Gretzky.
Barnett joins the team after working with the Phoenix Coyotes organization as General Manager, Senior Executive Vice President and Alternate Governor for six seasons. During his tenure with the Coyotes, he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the club’s hockey operations, including all matters relating to player personnel, coaching staff and scouting department.

He made an immediate impact in Phoenix, leading the team to their best record in Coyotes history (40-27-9-6) and finishing one point shy of the highest point total in franchise history (95 points) during his first season as GM in 2001-02. In recent years, after rebuilding the scouting staff, he added a strong stable of youngsters with Peter Mueller, Martin Hanzal, Keith Yandle, Keith Ballard, Zbynek Michalek, Daniel Carcillo, Daniel Winnik, Blake Wheeler, and Kevin Porter among others.

In addition, Barnett signed Phoenix franchise cornerstones Shane Doan and Ed Jovanovski to long-term deals. Prior to the 2006-07 trade deadline, he completed a series of transactions to secure Phoenix with seven draft picks in the first three rounds of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and amassed 25 total picks for the Coyotes in the last three seasons.

Prior to his stay in Phoenix, Barnett served as President of International Management Group’s (IMG) hockey division for 12 years. As a player agent, Barnett earned a reputation as one of the most creative and well-informed agents in the industry. His client list included several high-profile players such as Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Paul Coffey, Jaromir Jagr, Joe Thornton, Mats Sundin, and Sergei Fedorov.

A former player, Barnett played two seasons of professional hockey with the Chicago Cougers and Houston Aeros organizations of the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1973-74 to 1974-75, following his junior hockey and collegiate careers. He suffered a career-ending eye injury while with Houston.

A St. Lawrence University and University of Calgary graduate, Mike has two sons, Jesse and J.T., and three daughters, Joey, Janie and Jenna.

wow, just got home from work...Nolan got fired???
    dammmnnn..

    Hollweg traded:

Cliff Fletcher, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Monday that the team has obtained left-winger Ryan Hollweg from the New York Rangers. In exchange, the Rangers will receive Pittsburgh’s fifth-round pick in 2009 which was previously acquired by Toronto in the Hal Gill trade on February 26, 2008.

Hollweg, 25, scored two goals and added two assists to go along with 96 penalty minutes (third on the team) in 70 games for the Rangers in 2007-08. He dressed for eight of New York’s 10 playoff games in 2008. Hollweg was an integral member of the 2003-04 Medicine Hat Tigers as they captured the Western Hockey League Championship and advanced to the Memorial Cup.

The native of Downey, California was originally the Rangers’ eighth round choice, 238th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

see Bathy? Stockpiling and getting draft picks. One less forward they gotta worry about squeezing into the lineup. I liked Holly, wish him the best in my hoemtown of T.O. ;)

The Rangers have traded Ryan Hollweg to Toronto for a 2009 fifth round draft pick that originally belonged to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The trade of Hollweg brings to a close one of the great stories from the Rangers' first post-lockout season, the HMO line (or OHM line as some would have it) that energized the veteran contingent of mostly Czech players with their hard work and diligent skating. Dominic Moore was traded after that first season, Jed Ortmeyer left via free agency after the second season without ever getting an offer from the Rangers, and now the hard-hitting but often reckless Hollweg makes his exit. The Rangers will get to see what kind of impact he makes in an enemy uniform four times next season.

cant forget that penalty he took after we clawed back to tie that game with pitts at 3 .
we could have swung the momentum our way in our house that night- easily.

    oh well.

i wiill always remember those dance montages from msg network of him in the lockerroom and playing the rockband game with staal and strudwick .
    hollweg belting out the metallica.

    LOL

we have still got plenty of grit:

The Rangers' signings of free agents Aaron Voros, Patrick Rissmiller, and Andreas Jantim, players with similar qualities who play similar roles, forced Hollweg out that door once and for all

    Shanny only wants the Rangers

    Blueshirt Bulletin
    July 15, 2008
Fritsche Re-Signs, Shanahan Still Seeking Ranger Contract
The Rangers have avoided going to arbitration with newly acquired forward Dan Fritsche, signing the 23-year-old Ohio native to a contract that Blue Notes believes is worth $875,000, a raise from the $750,000 he earned last season and the $825,000 qualifying offer he received from the Blue Jackets before they traded him to New York (see NYR.com for more). In other news, Brendan Shanahan's agent said the only team his client is talking to is the Rangers in denying a report that Vancouver offered him $2 million. And Howlings reports that the Wolf Pack have re-signed forward Mike Ouellette.

To read more about the recently traded Ryan Hollweg, see the Journal News, Newsday, Post, NY Sports Day, and Prospect Park. Those zany Islanders are at it again, firing coach Ted Nolan, the only reason the Isles had a sniff at the playoffs in each of his two seasons at the Mausoleum. Apparently, the overachieving coach was no match for puppethead GM Garth Snow, the former backup goalie who was chosen to replace a real GM, former Ranger manager Neil Smith, when Smith lost a power struggle. In both cases, underachieving egotistical goalie Rick DiPietro is believed to have been in the middle of it all -- see the Post and Newsday for more.

At Blueshirt Bullletin+ we have an interview with Ranger prospect Max Campbell courtesy of Jess Rubenstein. Blueshirt Bulletin subscribers who have not yet learned how to access BB+ should send an E-mail to Blueshirt@mindspring.com for more information. If you don't have a subscription yet, click here to see a form that has all the information you need to get Blueshirt Bulletin as well as access to BB+.

New contract to keep Dawes in New York New York Rangers Jul 16, 2008, 11:43 AM EDT New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Nigel Dawes.

Nigel Dawes has much to smile about after signing a contract that ensures he'll continue playing home games at MSG.

Dawes, 23, skated in 61 games with the Rangers this past season, registering 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points, along with 10 penalty minutes and a plus-11 rating. He led the club in plus/minus rating (plus-11), ranked second in shootout game-deciding goals (two) and tied for third in game-winning goals (four). His four game-winning goals also tied for second in the NHL among all rookie skaters.

Dawes registered five multiple-point games, including a multiple-goal game on October 25 against New Jersey at Madison Square Garden. During the 2008 playoffs, Dawes recorded two goals and two assists for four points, while appearing in all 10 of the Rangers’ post-season contests. In addition, Dawes skated in 20 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL), notching 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points and a plus-eight rating. At the time of his recall on January 7, he ranked second on the Wolf Pack in goals (14), assists (20) and points (34). He also led all AHL skaters in points per game (1.70 points/game) and was tied for 16th in the league in points (34) at the time.

The 5-9, 190-pounder has skated in 69 career NHL games in two seasons with the Rangers, registering 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points, along with 10 penalty minutes. In 2006-07, Dawes appeared in eight games with the Rangers, collecting one goal. He made his NHL debut on October 5, 2006 vs. Washington and notched his first career NHL goal on October 21, 2006 at Toronto.

Prior to the season, Dawes was named the winner of the 2006 Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award as the best rookie of the Rangers Training Camp, along with Brandon Dubinsky, as voted by select New York media. In addition, Dawes has appeared in 166 career AHL games with Hartford, registering 76 goals and 85 assists for 161 points, along with 52 penalty minutes.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native was originally selected as the Rangers’ fifth round draft choice, 149th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

If Sjostrom comes in at the $650,000 figure, the Rangers' cap situation is as follows:

    Gomez @ $7,357,143; Drury @ $7,050,000; Lundqvist @ $6,875,000; Redden @ $6,500,000; Rozsival @ $5,000,000; Naslund @ $4,000,000; Zherdev @ $2,500,000; Kalinin @ $2,100,000; Mara @ $1,950,000; Prucha @ $1,600,000; Girardi @ $1,550,000; Voros @ $1,000,000; Rissmiller @ $1,000,000; Fritsche @ $875,000; Staal @ $826,667; Valiquette @ $725,000; Pock @ $667,500; Sjostrom @ $650,000; Dubinsky @ $633,333; Betts @ $615,000; Dawes @ $587,500; Callahan @ $575,000; Orr @ $537,500. That's a full 23-man roster -- fourteen forwards, seven defensemen, and two goalies who total just about $55,175,000, leaving just about $1.5 million.

However, Jaromir Jagr is believed to be owed a buyout of his contract option that is worth $760,000 and Brendan Shanahan's bonus overage from last year is believed to be in the $750,000 range, leaving the Rangers right up against the $56.7 million cap. The only room to move would be to replace Pock with a slightly cheaper option at #7 D (e.g. Corey Potter or Vladimir Denisov), to replace one of the new million dollar men, Voros and Rissmiller, or Fritsche, with a cheaper option from Hartford, or to make a cap-friendly trade, of which Prucha seems to be the only viable candidate. Even so, there appears to be no room whatsoever for re-signing Shanahan or adding another high profile player like Mats Sundin.
