They are saying David Liffiton( 6'2", 210 lbs ) is just so close to " ready ", , maybe Beuk can come back to nurture along some of these young D-Men in waiting in Hartford.

    Also of note :

    Brad Brown ( 6'3" 221lbs ) Defense

But no matter how you cut it, it's hard to see where there can be any room for Brendan Shanahan, Martin Straka, or Paul Mara -- unless they are willing to work for peanuts as depth players. You'd want your young players to cut their teeth in those roles, but veterans like these would be great depth players if the team ran into a rash of injuries or young players unexpectedly hitting walls or ceilings.

We're not going to repeat the prime quotes from yesterday's exit interviews since they have already been much-repeated in the press -- see the Daily News here and here, Journal News, Newsday, Times, Post, Record here and here, Star-Ledger, Blue Notes, Rangers Report here and here, Slap Shot, Prospect Park, AP, MSG.com here and here, NY Sports Day, and NYR.com. Rangers going to the World Championship -- Lundqvist to Sweden, Dubinsky to U.S.A., Tyutin to Russia, and Rozsival to Czech (NYR.com).

If you read todays NY Daily News , it kind of gives you the impression that Jagr may return - even if only for 1 oer 2 year extension or new contract alltogether- then he will be able to fulfill his obligations to his father ( also Jasromir ) back in the Czech Republic.

Jaromir Jagr wants to stay on Broadway
    BY JOHN DELLAPINA
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

    Tuesday, May 6th 2008, 8:35 PM

Jaromir Jagr says he wants to finish his career with the Blueshirts.

Jaromir Jagr ended months of playing coy and finally let his feelings be known Tuesday: He would like to finish his NHL career as a Ranger.

"First I am going to talk to the Rangers - that's the No. 1 option for me," Jagr said. "I don't like to change. I feel very comfortable here, with all the people around this organization who are nice to me.

"They gave me a chance to show everybody I still can play hockey. Everybody doubted me when I was playing in Washington, for whatever reason. The Rangers gave me a chance and believed in me."

With the perspective that playoff elimination and impending unrestricted free agency bring - and the sound of Garden fans chanting his name Thursday night fresh in his memory - Jagr Tuesday went further than he has all season in publicly declaring his desire to come back.

However, his pronouncement on the day the Rangers took their exit interviews and physicals at the MSG Training Center is only the first step in what could be a long and complicated process required to get his signature on a new Rangers contract.

Jagr has other obligations pulling at him. One is a promise he made during the 2004-05 lockout to the owner of the Russian Super League team Omsk-Avangard that he would return to play there one day. And Jagr said yesterday that he expected representatives from that team to come to New York within the next couple of weeks to discuss his playing there next season.

Another, more powerful European draw: Jagr revealed yesterday that his father, who also is named Jaromir, has requested that he return home to play in his native Kladno, Czech Republic, for the 2010-11 season. That is when Jagr's father plans to open a new arena in Kladno. "I don't think I would sign longer than two years - just because of my dad," Jagr said. "He asked me to come home. He did. In two years. He wants me to come back. He's helping to build a new arena there and he wants me to be there.

"But you never know. I believe, if I would say I'm coming a little later he wouldn't mind. But he wants me to be there."

Presumably, Rangers GM Glen Sather was relieved to hear about Jagr's two-year window. Although he surged down the stretch and led the playoffs in scoring through two rounds, Jagr turned 36 in February.

The Rangers might offer Jagr a one-year, incentive-laden deal like the one Brendan Shanahan signed last summer. Bonuses on one-year deals for players over 35 are eligible to be deferred to count against the following season's salary cap.

Although he was not made available to reporters yesterday, Sather has gone on record as saying he wants to re-sign Jagr. The two had not spoken when Jagr met the media yesterday afternoon.

"We talked about it during the season," Jagr said. "I had a feeling there's a chance I might be here next year, but no decision was made."

Said Rangers coach Tom Renney: "You can't help but endorse Jaromir being here if that's what he wants. If it lines up for him and he's most comfortable being here, then good for us."

Asked what role he envisioned Jagr playing next season, Renney quipped: "Other than our No. 1 forward?"

With the Rangers having won two playoff rounds over the last two seasons, Jagr could have extended the seven-year, $78 million contract he signed with Washington in 2001 had he scored 84 points this season or won the Hart (MVP), Ross (scoring title) or Smythe (Playoffs MVP) Trophies. Because he didn't hit any of those triggers, he will become an unrestricted free agent - with a $1 million parting bonus - July 1 unless he can work out a new contract with the Rangers by then.

thanks for the welcome home bathy
i got to see all the non-sense down there

    lol malkin very classy
i hope the flyers pound this team into the ground

yea we def. can use another beuke

    were still waiting on liffiton
i mean its time to give him a chance or move-on

the fritz kid has a ton of size , but lets see if he can skate ...

fact of the matter is were fine down the middle
we have a few good young wingers with the big club
but a big power forward is needed

the defense is young and will be around for awhile
i think bobby sag. is gonna be the puck mover -offensive guy(thats the plan anyway)

staal is gonna be awesome no matter how he plays
(but we all noticed him on the rush in the playoffs)

    giradi and tyutin are solid

if we can add a big tough d-man that would be icing on the cake

hey hopefully we can learn from these losses and build the perfect team

and yes the free agent thread will start when the cup is over :)

starting next season , it looks like the website will be for subscribers only , in case anyones interested.

    ( I am subsribed for another 2 years )
    May 09, 2008
Now Is a Good Time to Subscribe
The May issue of Blueshirt Bulletin went out into the mail today for subscribers and should be arriving in mailboxes in the New York area within the next two or three days, a little longer for other destinations around the U.S. and the world. As is so often the case, events outpaced our abiility to prepare stories -- most of the articles were written after the elimination of the Devils, but the issue went to press after the Rangers themselves were eliminated in the next round. Nevertheless, we feel confident that we have come up with some good reading that is fresh regardless of the results.

Here is what we have: two pages on Sean Avery (pre-injury), including John Dellapina of the Daily News on how Avery helps promote hockey; two pages on the impact of the Rangers' rookies, one page specifically on Marc Staal and another by Dan Rosen of NHL.com on the group as a whole; two pages on what worked for the Rangers this season, which will be same next season -- Andrew Gross of the Record on Jaromir Jagr and Henrik Lundqvist, Sam Weinman of the Journal News on how team's off-ice chemistry translates onto the ice; a two-page review of both playoff rounds; and Bruce Berlet's two-page review of Hartford's season.

That's ten pages of wall to wall information from some of the great sportswriters in the New York area who cover the Rangers. But that's not all, far from it. Jess Rubenstein has a player by player review of Ranger prospects as well as Prospect Park's year-end awards, Scoop Malinowski has Biofiles on Michal Rozsival and Steve Valiquette, John Halligan skates Around the Rink With the Rangers, and Ron Boesgaard has his popular Views From the Blues. There are the usual three pages of Rangers news and notes, the Rangers timeline, and Blueshirt Bulletin reader Bill Cummings lauding the Rangers' version of the Flying Frenchmen.

All of this is illustrated by great photography, some of it exclusive to Blueshirt Bulletin thanks to David Perlmutter (including a series of shots of the Rangers and Avery running Martin Brodeur), and beautifully put together by our art director, John Coutihno -- David and John bring more than their artistry to the project, they also bring the eye of the Ranger fan, being fans themselves. You can see the combination of their work along with a sampling of some of this month's writing in the collage at the upper left -- but you'll have to subscribe to actually be able to read it and see it close up in all its glory.

It's not too late to subscribe and get this issue. And in the process, you also help make sure that we get a reporter on site at the upcoming draft in Ottawa. We are going to need several hundred new subscribers to fund live coverage from the draft of the type that we have provided the past couple of years, coverage that included a rare exclusive interview with Glen Sather by Jess Rubenstein as well as exclusive interviews with Ranger draftees and scouts and one with Jim Schoenfeld, in addition to coverage of press conferences by the top draftees and Rangers' staff members like Sather and Tom Renney.

Subscription will soon become the only way to access our premium content, including our coverage of Prospect Development Camp and Ranger training camp. This summer, we will migrate the site to one where premium coverage will only be available to magazine subscribers (there may also be an option to subscribe separately to premium online content for those who don't get the magazine). So get a head start and subscribe now to get the current issue of Blueshirt Bulletin and get the June issue, which will preview the draft and summer free agent season. Click here for information on how to subscribe.

Just some light reading on the Rangers today -- Henrik Lundqvist backstopped Sweden to an easy win (recap here -- NYR.com has the lowdown on all Rangers in the World Championship), Perry Pearn has thrown his name into the hat for the Florida head coaching job (report here), Kenny Albert looks ahead at MSG.com, and Prospect Park has part IV of its look at the Rangers.

His second goal, which gave Team USA a 4-0 lead, came at 5:48 of the second period, and his final tally on a power-play at 11:35 of the third closed out the scoring.

Playing on Team USA's second line with David Booth and Peter Mueller, Dubinsky scored on all three of his shots on goal and finished the afternoon with a plus-2 rating in 15:07 of ice time. He was also called for his first minor penalty of the tournament, a kneeing call at 19:37 of the middle period.

U.S. goaltender Robert Esche stopped 17 shots, as the Americans outshot the Norwegians 48-18. The other Team USA goals were scored by Dustin Brown, Patrick Kane, Paul Martin, Zach Parise and Phil Kessel. Brown had a pair of goals.

The victory was a big lift for the Americans, who suffered a disappointing loss to Finland less than 24 hours earlier.

"I think we've been playing well all tournament except last night against Finland" Team USA head coach John Tortorella told IIHF.com. "It was really good to get out there today in the first game and move on form last night."

    Fedor Tyutin
Also on Monday, Rangers defenseman Fedor Tyutin's Russian team beat Switzerland 5-3 at Quebec City to clinch the top spot in Group E. The Russians finished the round a remarkable 5-0-0.

The Russians jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back against a Swiss team that had the potential to pass them in the standings with a win. Former Minnesota Wild player Maxim Sushinsky scored twice for Russia, while Washington's Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist.

Tyutin, paired with Vitali Proshkin on defense, saw 13:40 of ice time and finished the game with a plus-1 rating after being on the ice for Sushinsky's second goal, an empty-netter at 17:25 of the third period.
