Stankiewicz---how could anyone forget Stanky the Yankee? I bought my then 3 year old nephew a Staniewicz name and # T-shirt shortly after he was demoted, or traded. it was like $3 at Stan's
Matt Nokes---favorite memory--Clemens drills in the ribs with heater. A pissed off matt Nokes catches the ball between his ribs and his arm, and fires it back to Clemens, who didn't realize what happened right away (that it was Nokes firing it back at him and not his catcher)
Steve Farr/Steve Howe---my friends brother is a bleacher guy from way back. he once told me of a gimmick/chant they used to have back in those days: Howe---Farr---will they hit it? or something like that
Bob Wickman---I think it was 1993, he couldn't lose a game. he'd give up 6 rusn in 3 innings, and they would come back. Or he'd give up 4 runs in 5 innings and get a win. i remember him being 8-0 while teh mets had a guy naemed Anthony young who pitched halfway decent, not great by any means, but he had a 27 game losing streak spanning a couple seasons
Mike Stanley---I too was a big fan. when they showed the Girardi montage tonight, it reminded me of how much I hated the move to bring in girardi to replace Stanley. Didn't Stanley come back for a brief sting during the dynasty years?
Kevin Maas---I remember being so excited. We weren't just gonna get to watch his Hall of fame career, but he had a brother who was gonna be great too. Jason Maas
mel Hall---favorite memory. Trying to score on a base hit and he blows out a wheel 20-30 feet short of home plate. Goes down liek he was shot. Tries pathetically to crawl to the plate, but gets tagged out
here's a name that hasn't been mentioned----Alvaro Espinoza. Phil Rizzuto LOVED him
That's great about Howe and Farr. Stanley played for about a month in 1997 when they acquired him from the Red Sox. I remember him hitting three home runs in the first game of a doubleheader against the Indians in 1995 and the Yankees still lost because Showalter didn't insert Gerald Williams defensively for Ruben Sierra in right field.

Ruben sierra--amazing the transformation he went thru between Yankee stints. He's the only player I ever remember Joe Torre trashing. Called him the Village Idiot. then he comes back a few years later and is one of the most respected guys on the team. even took Cano under his wing, and used to drive him to the ballpark every day, stopping at area Childrens Hospitals almost daily. last i heard, Cano still does that. And speaking of Gerald Williams, didn't he also leave and then come back later on in the championship run? I believe he was there in 96, then came back much later.

It is amazing about Ruben Sierra, who would have thought in 1996 that he'd become some kind of elder statesman in the clubhouse. But he had to have been humbled by the way his career turned after leaving the Yankees the first time.
Williams and Wickman were traded for Lloyd. I think Williams came back in 2001 after spending a few years with Tampa Bay, where he started a fight with Pedro Martinez in 2000.

Wow, some crazy flashbacks after reading all those names. Although I didn't hear anyone mention that it was Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens.
I remember laying next to the radio as a kid and listening to the games on WABC. There was all the hype that surrounded Leiter when he was coming up. He was the Phil Hughes of that time. His first game started was against the Brewers in 1987 and he struckout the first 6 batters he faced. He got a win and Rags got the save.

Baltimore always kicks the fuck out of them.
It's very annoying.
They look awful tonight. Nothing in the tank.
well, the silver lining on tonights cloud is the fact that at this moment, boston and tampa bay are both losing. so if it stays that way, no lost ground.
I was about to post that Nady and Marte have both 000's. One of those are good. But he hit a homer. Bet if A-Rod did that everyone would be killing him here for hitting a useless hr.

I know but we should be making up ground, not just staying put. Blech. How'd it get to be 11-0. I was at work, I missed the beginning.

i completely agree, i'm just glad we didn't fall any further back. i'm pissed we didn't gain a game on boston and tampa, but at the same time we're no worse than we were yesterday.

Just kidding
I was right.
Sorry, couldn't resist
There really isn't a wasted HR. You take what you can get. To get you closer.
like that huge one against tampa bay a couple years ago that they constantly play on yankee classics? wouldn't mind seeing something like that myself.
~D.K.S.
Sucks that they took out Jeter and Abreu. I hate when they take out their starters when it's a blowout. I wanna fight til the end.
