  • i think you are right... they will be facing the indians in the first round.

it's going to be an interesting playoffs in the AL i think. if the yanks beat the indians first round, would you want them to play the sox or angels? angels own the yankees, and i could not take the possibility of the sox beating the yanks again in the ALCS.

    fuck em.

doesn't really matter to me, but for travelling reasons only, i'd like to see them play boston. a seven game series between LA with going back and forth might have a negative impact going into the world series. then again, maybe not. but i'm gonna stick with i'd rather have boston than LA.

    ugh I know.
Yanks Red Sox is too much drama but I agree, I don't want to see the Angels in a playoffs ever again. And All that schlepping across the country? It's too much!

let's worry about the angels/red sox when we get there. we can't look past the indians, we may have won all six against them in the regular season but that often means little (see 1988 mets vs. dodgers).

by the way, a possible meetup idea might be watching some of the road postseason games somewhere.

i didn't go then but i remember that and when the bleachers were general admission instead of assigned seating. if i remember correctly that started in 1999 or 2000?

General admission started being phased out in the middle of the '99 season, then went full assigned seating by the start of 2000. The now infamous beer ban took place by Memorial Day weekend that 2000 season and the section hasn't been the same since.

true, esp. in these short series but I like to think positively!

ooh that sounds like fun! I get really loud watching a ballgame, I'm hooting and hollering at the tv set.

the last time I went to an ALDS was a game vs Minnesota. I forget what year it was? '04 or '05?

that sounds right, i remember going to a thursday afternoon yankees-athletics game in september and the seat was assigned for section 43, which was strange because two nights earlier it was general admission.

wasn't the beer ban right before the red sox series in 2000?

That would have been 2004, they played the angels in 2005. in 2004, they dropped the first game hitting into a bunch of double plays and then won Game Two in extra innings.

oh right and then Detroit last year.

Wow it doesn't seem like it was that long ago! My Dad and I got the tickets the day of the game, they released them and they were pretty good, right behind the left field foul pole but on a lower level. ..

We must have been at the 2nd game b/c we were at the game they won! We left early which I know seems scandalous but I had to work early the next day.

I worked w/people who were at that Aaron Boone Game 7 and they said it was the most incredible baseball game they had ever seen. And they were not young men!

I left early, I had to work the next day. I don't really remember much about it other than that they jacked up all the prices! And it's SO loud! It's crazy there, but it's amazing during the playoffs. It's like nothing else.

  • and we have a statement from the boss:

“I’m elated we have clinched the playoff spot.

After a tough first half of the season when everyone seemed to lose faith except for our players and our fans, the team has really stepped up and shown themselves to be the champions that they are. With hard work and determination, we were able to clinch a playoff position and are now heading into our 13th consecutive postseason.

I congratulate our players, Joe Torre, and Brian Cashman. I really like the mix of veterans and younger players who have contributed to this comeback. It has been exciting to watch them play, coalesce and pull together. The fans and I look forward to the team accomplishing our ultimate goal—bringing a world championship back to New York.”

  • well, Cano sure isn't camera shy, now is he? Maybe it's just me, but I always felt that winning a wild card didn't merit that raucous a celebration. I think the only time to break out the bubbly is:

    winning the division
    going to the World Series
    winning the World Series

I sat in the bleachers a couple times during the 96 playoffs, including against baltimore. In fact, when Brady Anderson hit a HR into the bleachers you can see me clear as day stand up and prepare to catch the ball, as it was hit RIGHT at me. Alas, with a few hundred people going for it, all I got was a face full of cement. The ball ended up bouncing off my seat, and into the hands of the fellow directly behind me. He threw it back onto the field, as custom dictated

before Wang gave up the home run to Pena. Yankee starters haven't given up a hr in a 110 innings. The most since the 1980 Yankees.

The Yanks better hope they don't get the Angels in the divisional series. The Angels own NY.
