Just came from the game. Damn another great game by Clemens wasted. So much for him being a 6 inning pitcher. It seems like there's alays a pitching duel when he's on the mound. Even if the opposing pitcher has 20.00 e.r.a. they always look like a CY Young candidate. It's understandable today cause Lackey was pitching. But still.

i'm at old-timer's day at yankee stadium and one lineup has the following two through five hitters on it:

    Paul O'Neill
    Don Mattingly
    Reggie Jackson
    Darryl Strawberry

damn! Suit them all up and then we'd start winning ball games! Wow. Who got the biggest hand?

Joe Girardi was doing the Fox broadcast. I love him. He said he crunched some numbers and he really made it clear how we can't afford to lose games like this one we did. But with 5 errors in one game?! Two on one play! Man, 13 inning games are really unlucky for us. I couldn't believe they couldn't get the run in from 3rd! Ugh, ugh, ugh. How frustrating. ..

Yea I always stay for the whole game. First game I've been to in a long while. I had to stretch a $4.50 bottle of coke. I wasn't sure if you could bring food from the outside cuz i haven't been since 9-11 and the new rules. But I saw some people did bring stuff in.

How do people sneak stuff in? They search your bag! They must hide it down in the bottom and stuff.

That's a long stretch of a bottle! Geesh.

Can't wait to see who wins the Wild Card this year! New York or Toronto? I think Toronto is going to take it, but I still have faith in NY. I always love to see who is going to come in second.

    Or maybe Seattle.
Yanks or Blow Jays have to vault a few teams to get to the wild card.

    Ali tops Jeter's All-Star memories

It might look like padding for an already impressive
resume, but when Derek Jeter arrives in San Francisco
for his eighth All-Star Game, it will be because he's
    still playing his heart out.

Jeter, who received 3,199,571 fan votes and will start
for the American League squad for the third time in
his career, has plenty of Midsummer Classic memories,
but one stands out above them all. It occurred in
Houston, during the 2004 All-Star Game.

By the way, the following teams have made the playoffs when having a losing record at the All-Star break

2003 - Minnesota Twins 44-49 and finished 90-72 lost in four games to the Yankees in the division series

1997 - Houston Astros 43-45 and finished 84-78 lost to Atlanta in the division series

1995 - Seattle Mariners 34-35 finished 79-66, won one-game playoff, beat the Yankees lost to the Indians in the ALCS

1995 - New York Yankees 30-36 finished 79-65, lost in five to the Mariners in the ALDS

1995 - Los Angeles Dodgers - 34-35 finished 78-66 lost to the Reds in the NLDS

1991 - Atlanta Braves - 39-40 and nine and half games behind the Dodgers. beat the Pirates in the NLCS, one run away from beating the Twins in the World Series

1984 - Kansas City Royals - 39-43 and lost to the Tigers in the ALCS (this team even fell 10 games under .500 before rallying)

1974 - Pittsburgh Pirates 45-49 and won 88 games lost in the NLCS to the Reds

1973 - New York Mets - 42-51 and won 82 games and lost in seven to the Athletics

there have also been a number of teams no more than five games over .500 that have won also. of course, they also have not faced that huge a deficit but it can be done on occasion.

Phil Hughes gets a rehab start this week in the minors and Jeff Karstens had his first rehab start Sat. since breaking his leg on a line drive.

Also just found this out. The kid Shelley Duncan (.288, 21 HR, 70 RBI) at Scranton is brother to Chris Duncan of the Cards and son of Larussa's ever present pitching coach Dave Duncan.

Yanks are going against their usual policy and trying to negotiate a contract extension with A-Rod during the season. If he decides to opt out of his contract, it will be because he wants to play somewhere else. I can't imagine him actually making more money whether he signs elsewhere or with the Yanks.

a-rod doesn't want an extension. he's as good as gone:

He might not get much more per year, but he could make more total by opting out now and signing a 6 or 7 year deal instead of the 3 years remaining in his current contract. If he waited till his mid 30's to become a FA again, he may not get another 3 or 4 year contract at that salary level.

Of course, there are many other reasons why he may want to opt out besides money. The New York spotlight, possibly wanting to return to SS, the possibility that he has a better chance to win elsewhere(Rivera, Posada, and Clemens are all up there in age and FAs-to-be), ect.

The combination of all these things make it logical to test the FA waters.
