Dude I just took the loin, chopped it up, threw it in the slow cooker with some frozen vegetables (broccoli, corn, green beans, etc) and chopped up Idaho (who da ho?) potatoes and cooked that shit up. I put in some cajun season, some Old Bay seasoning and hellz yeah.
Basically, I treat venison like beef, but it tastes much better and is far healthier. Oh, and the animal is cute.Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?0 -

Seems like a lot of people are confused about vegetarianism.
Here's the different terms for those who eat the above mentioned foods: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pescetarian
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacto-ovo_vegetarianism
Even Time magazine wrote about it: http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101020715/story2.htmlWalking can be a real trip

I understand... and from what I understand those who ate dairy products used to not be considered vegetarian. And even today those who eat fish are Pescatarians & those who eat poultry are Pollotarians, not Vegetarians.
Kind regardsWalking can be a real trip

I am aware that animal cruelty exists everywhere, I think chickens are the ones who have it worst (at least here) so I do try to make sure that the meat I'm buying is from animals that have had a decent treatment.
You only buy chickens that were happy before being butchered?one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
sweet smell that they adore
I think I'd rather smother

halv wrote:I mentioned in an earlier post about a slaughterhouse near my house and the sickening stuff you see if you walk down the alley.
Well, just last night I was going by this place again on the way to the gym (yes, a vegan at the gym...what a shocker, I'm ready for the ridiculous protein questions now). They again had their backdoors open after a day of murdering chickens, so I walked down the alley to take some pictures of the aftermath for those who continue to think that animal welfare groups are making up the horror stories. I came across the usual alley filled with blood, feathers and entrails flowing out of the slaughterhouse and rats running in and out. But this time I noticed these 6 big barrels on a pallet. As I got closer I noticed they were full of dead chickens. 6 giant barrels full of these dead chickens which had not had their necks slit or put through the scalding water. They of course died while in transport in those tiny cages or while being loaded. Many probably were sick and not worthy of being killed for human consumption and were just tossed in there to die (you hear about this all the time). I walked around the barrels and I almost started crying as I saw a baby chicken standing in the alley right beside the 6 barrels of dead chickens. She was very small and didn't look like a full grown chicken like the other dead ones (who are actually only 6 weeks old...frankenchickens). She was sitting there, beside all the dead ones, not moving at all except for shivering. Mean while around me the workers were spraying the alley or moving trucks. It was obvious this little guy was thrown in the trash to die as well, but managed to jump down or fall into the alley. It was truly one of the saddest things I've ever seen. She is now living in a big box in my bathroom while I wait to get her to a farm sanctuary to take care of her. She finally stopped shaking after about 6 hours in a blanket then sleeping the night away. This morning she's finally eating and drinking water, giving these cute little peeps everytime you put your hand in the box. To think the terror and abuse it went through, and the fear it must have had standing in that freezing alley surrounded by death and blood.
A garbage man in a truck saw me holding the chick and came out to talk to me. He doesn;t work for the slaughterhouse but takes the blood and feathers, etc to a rendering plant. He was telling me how he has seen chickens and chicks running around that alley before, or left to die in the garbage bins. Sadly her prospects of living past 6-9 months are very low. The "broiler" chickens are bred to put on alot of weight fast, and they have all sorts of health problems, usually with their legs. It is extremely common for their hearts to just explode inside them. Normal chickens not bred to be eaten can live up to 15 years.
Not a single person on here wouldn't have a broken heart or a tear in there eye if they saw this tiny little bird. These chickens go through the most agonizing torture and horrible death you could imagine.
If you want to see the photos just let me know. I don't have a link yet but would be more than happy to email them to you. Just send me a private message.
This little guy is exactly the reason that eating meat is immoral and wrong. The chickens can be treated great (which they never are) up until slaughter. But there is no humane slaughter. It is ugly, and bloody, and full of pain and 100% completely unneccesary.0 -

TWENTY prescriptions? Yikes. Did you think that you were Abraham Lincoln, living in the year 2415, and that you lived on the Death Star?

i'll have to pm you some good receipes. if you get cuts with a gamey taste; soak it in vinegar and water for a few hours to overnight. then just before it's done; add a tablespoon of brown sugar.
anyway; i wonder if the veggies know the poisons and dyes in their produce?0 -
