    very well said. i'm a male, but have had some female friends who have had to make the difcicult decision to have an abortion. it's not an easy one to live with, but for them it was a necessary one to make.

    I just started playing poker about a week and a half ago. The hardest part about it is patience. You have to be able to sit and fold 300 hands in a row while other people are raking in the pots. I just sat there for the first 30 mins folding my hands and then I got a pair of Aces and went all-in (bet all my chips). Five or Six players called my bet and I won. That put me into first instantly. I kept folding and only betting on really good hands, the top 10 hands in Texas Hold'em. When I got a good hand I would bet really high, or all-in. By the first break (after an hour) I was in the lead by 60,000 chips. Then I continued to fold most of my hands, even the really good ones, just to outlast the other players. This strategy rarely wins 1st place, but I'm almost always in the money.

    Thanks Mookie. Too tired to even attempt arguing roe v wade. But it is important that someone say that abortion is a necessary procedure and that women should always have the right over their own bodies. You can't say rape is bad with one breath, that a women has a right to say NO to sex and then deny the right to say YES to controlling her fertility. Too many people with too many opinions on women's bodies. And it's really important that we never go back to the bad old days of backyard abortions. I hope your friends are ok whatever their choice was. It is a difficult decision to make and to live with. But so too is having unwanted children that aren't going to be looked after as they deserve.

    My ex always told me she would have an abortion and was dead against having children. But within a year after we broke up she was pregnant and excited about it. A woman's attitude towards abortion changes when she's carrying the child. There is a biological change that occurs. It's a really difficult decision to choose abortion and most women will not.

    Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not a woman. ;)

    I sucked at poker too, but I searched the internet and found a bunch of videos and strategies. That improved my game drastically.

    I think a woman's attitude to having a child changes depending on her circumstances. Whatever situation she may find herself in at the time. I have friends who are married that have had several children and have then had an abortion. I have had girlfriends that have raised children as single mothers from the get go and never looked back. I don't agree that most women will not choose abortion Ahnimus, I think that abortion is so stigmatized and women are so vilified for even speaking about it that many of the women you know will have had them and will never mention it. They have them and never speak of them to a soul (as in no one! ;) ) again. Just because circumstance dictates that a women has an abortion with one pregnancy does not mean she will never get pregnant, carry the child to term and embrace motherhood. I think that women make tough decisions about their fertility all the time. If you can't bring up your child with the best possible start that you can give them then abortion is often a good choice to make. Sometimes you have to love your children or potential children enough to know that now is not good enough, what I can give now is not good enough. What I can do now is not good enough. There are plenty of people that have kids and regret it and the person that suffers the most is the kid. It's a very individual thing. And yes very big biological changes occur with pregnancy before, during and after. All hormone driven. It's fascinating what happens and I would really like for them to understand female hormones better particularly in relation to disease. The one thing I do know is never say never. You can't know what is round the corner.

    It costs 11 cents to get into stage 1, from there on you just have to win 1st in 8 stages.

    The Federal Government has no constitutional authority to make that determination once the states have ruled on the matter.

    Let's not forget: the people elected state representatives to go to their respective capitols and vote against abortion in the legislature. This was an issue of the definition of when murder occurs. It is normally left up to the states and was, until the Federal Government ONCE AGAIN stole power from the states.

    Here is the 14th amendment:
    "Section. 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

    THis is the most ignorant, arrogant, and childish arguement of this issue. I'm not even pro-life, but this line of thinking is as dumb as you can get. seriously, it's dumb. "you can't have an opinion on abortion b/c you're not a female." That's an idiotic statement. as is the assertion that you can't have an opinion on the war if you don't have a family member fighting in it. how about actually forming an opinion, putting forth facts instead of falling back on emotional zingers.

    as much as I appreciate your kind words, I do understand why you think that way about my comment. If I was an elected official or was if the nation voted to keep it legal or not, I would probably vote with the pro lifers. but neither of those scenarios will never happen. therefore I find it hard for me to bark at a woman for having an abortion.

    if that woman had to go through a vicious rape (again, something that will never happen to me being a man unless im go to jail) or has a very high chance of dying giving birth(something I will never do), who am I to tell her she cant??

    this is a very bad comparison. I can certainly have an opinion about the war. there is a possibility I might be called upon to go to war. hell, if we were attacked or invaded I would call myself to arms. me going to battle, albeit a very small chance, is possible. me being pregnant is not

    I will leave Justice Rehnquist to eloquently state why the 14th amendment is not a factor in this case:

    "If the Court means by the term "privacy" no more than that the claim of a person to be free from unwanted state regulation of consensual transactions may be a form of "liberty" protected by the Fourteenth Amendment, there is no doubt that similar claims have been upheld in our earlier decisions on the basis of that liberty. I agree with the statement of MR. JUSTICE STEWART in his concurring opinion that the "liberty," against deprivation of which without due process the Fourteenth Amendment protects, embraces more than the rights found in the Bill of Rights. But that liberty is not guaranteed absolutely against deprivation, only against deprivation without due process of law. The test traditionally applied in the area of social and economic legislation is whether or not a law such as that challenged has a rational relation to a valid state objective. Williamson v. Lee Optical Co., 348 U.S. 483, 491 (1955). The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment undoubtedly does place a limit, albeit a broad one, on legislative power to enact laws such as this. If the Texas statute were to prohibit an abortion even where the mother's life is in jeopardy, I have little doubt that such a statute would lack a rational relation to a valid state objective under the test stated in Williamson, supra. But the Court's sweeping invalidation of any restrictions on abortion during the first trimester is impossible to justify under that standard, and the conscious weighing of competing factors that the Court's opinion apparently substitutes for the established test is far more appropriate to a legislative judgment than to a judicial one."

    The simple fact is, the framers did not intend "born or naturalized citizens" to offer a scapegoat for legalized abortion. Abortion was criminal in those days and no one would have attempted it. Fetuses that are conceived still have a right to life, as guaranteed by the 14th amendment.

    Furthermore, the Supreme Court still had no constitutional right to overturn the Texas statute. Abortion is not a right reserved to the people because the right to privacy does not exist in the constitution. The right to life does, however.
