Not to be picky about proper grammer and spelling, god known I'm not the greatest speller, but I believe you should be able to at least spell flag correctly before you go shooting people for desecrating yours.

its only when in a foreign land that I actually feel english, otherwise itmeans little to me. As a teenager I felt that I was irish due to my family and perhaps an unspoken desire to be different but i now realize the fallacy of that notion.

National borders in the main surely represent only one hegemonic power having layed down its marker. But I dont feel all nationalist feeling is harmful(take sporting events for example), its just been utilized so in the past.

I believe patriotism is important. its the life and soul of a nation. If you have an entire nation of people who dont care about their country or about their culture, language, or share any values with their fellow countrymen that nation will not last. Nations like that fall to the ground when their nation is challenged. without patriotism there is nothing holding the country together. look at Iraq, you have two different groups of people of the same country taking turns killing each other instead of trying to build up their country. the sunni muslims in Iraq dont share the same values and patriotism as the krds or shia' muslims. whether you agree with the war or not something has to be done, the days of saddam are over and Iraq will never rebuild until the sunni's, shia's and kurds in that country unite and recognize that they are countrymen and are all Iraqis.

And it's nations which represent division. Division leads to conflict. Nations, flags and patriotism encourage us to focus on ourselves and blind us to the wider world. This is why I said I piss on all flags.

This situation has nothing to do with 'values and patriotism'. This is a religious conflict. This religious strife which we see in Iraq is the equivalent of the strife between nations when their divisions are encouraged by 'patriotism' and 'flags' as opposed to different slants on the same religion.

It might be argued that this is a patriotic act on your part.

I was thinking it would benefit the wider world.

    Was it this guy?? ;)http://www.myspace.com/diamondmind50

If so, he's my new friend. I go to his page periodically to listen to the song "United" by Judas Priest. (I'm listening to it right now, as a matter of fact!)

Considering global thinking/perceiving precedes global action, I'm already there! ;)
