    Was he sloppy at the border? Seems to me he got to the root of the issue and it was corrected near the end of the term. It just took time. You know, like normal things do. And now the Trump admin is reaping the benefits of it and it looks like their strong arming of people out of the country is the thing that’s doing it (though I’m sure, it’s keeping people away too, not just looking to stay but also to visit and study).
    By 2024 it was too late because that data wouldn’t be available to win the argument during the campaign. By then, you tube videos of crime exploding in nyc and migrant hotels were everywhere, right or wrong.

    and with ai, data can be summarized in seconds, with its sourcing. We can debate the definition of encounter ad nauseam , but the trend is clear, there was something behind all those you tube videos.

    “Here are the nationwide encounter numbers for the fiscal years (FY) 2018-2023, according to the Office of Homeland Security Statistics (OHSS):
     * FY 2018: 686,070 nationwide encounters
     * FY 2019: 1,147,480 nationwide encounters
     * FY 2020: 646,800 nationwide encounters
     * FY 2021: 1,956,520 nationwide encounters
     * FY 2022: 2,766,580 nationwide encounters
     * FY 2023: 3,201,140 nationwide encounters

    for those that constantly joke about  ai (while flooding this place with anecdotes and opinion articles) these are facts.

    and to those that think ai is just copying and pasting, I had to know the exact years to search to counter Tim’s argument, know what trend that data would show, and know that 2024 data would not be available in time to save democrats in the election. That’s not mush, Matty, and it beats scrolling thru dozens of websites that don’t individually provide the picture as clearly as this.

    Ok now add 2024

    I was indirectly agreeing with you about 2024 but that counter has two obvious problems. First, by the time that colorful chart comes out it’s way too late to frame a convincing argument to 2024 voters, and second, Biden signed those 2024 executive orders that led to these stats, because he or his handlers knew their goose was cooked by then, because the problem was already out of control.

    Yeah, it was too little too late.

    I’m just saying it was always gonna be a slow process with gains later without strong arming jackboots doing the work.

    Maybe because he's been sandbagged by establishment Dems (The same ones that push center and slightly center left positions to minimal success)? Lets put candidates like him up and have them sell their positions and see how they do.

    We did in 2020, the moderate Biden beat them all. Then Biden got old unfortunately and somehow out came a much more liberal version of him, complete with a magic autopen.
    I must have missed the much more liberal papa Joe.

    Did you lift a finger to do any research on that accurate point or are you prouder at producing maga level biased content.

    ..

    Yes, Joe Biden's record on immigration shows a significant shift from his earlier career in the Senate to his presidency. His policies as president were generally seen as more liberal than those he supported in the 1990s.
    Earlier Career (1990s)
    During his time as a senator, particularly in the mid-1990s, Biden was a proponent of more restrictive immigration policies. Key points from this era include:
     * Tough-on-Crime Stance: He was a key figure in the "tough on crime" movement and supported legislation that expanded the federal government's power to detain and deport immigrants.
     * Immigration Legislation: He voted for bills in 1996 that significantly increased deportations and expanded grounds for the indefinite detention of immigrants. This legislation contributed to a sharp increase in deportations in the years that followed.
    Presidency
    As president, his administration pursued policies that were often in direct contrast to his earlier record. He campaigned on a platform to reform the immigration system and reverse many of the policies of the previous administration.
     * Early Actions: Upon taking office, he moved quickly to halt construction of the border wall, end the "Muslim travel ban," and establish a task force to reunite families separated at the border.
     * Expansion of Legal Pathways: His administration prioritized restoring and expanding legal immigration. This included raising the annual cap on refugee admissions, which had fallen to historic lows, and creating new humanitarian parole programs for migrants from specific countries.
     * Legislative Proposals: He sent a comprehensive immigration bill to Congress that would have provided a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants already in the country. This was a significant departure from his earlier focus on enforcement.
     * Mixed Record on Enforcement: While his administration initially sought to end some of the more restrictive policies, it also faced record numbers of migrant encounters at the border. This led to a mix of policies, including reliance on some Trump-era measures like Title 42, which allowed for rapid expulsions during the pandemic. His administration also carried out a high number of deportations.
    In summary, while there were elements of enforcement in his presidential policies, the overall direction and stated goals of his administration were a clear break from his more enforcement-focused record in the 1990s.

    Good goal post move. You made reference to moderate Joe of 2020, not 1990s. And much of the post claiming he’s moved left turns out to be republicans moving further right as well as being more anti immigrant since the 90s.

    Instead of attempting to research, your comment is more interested in personal attributes.

    2020 was before the Biden administration began. In 2020 he was known as a moderate when he won that election. He was known to his primary voters based on the portion of his career that existed before 2020. His record after 2021 was quite different. There were numerous facts posted above as examples that could have been examined. My point on this long running topic over multiple quote threads is established. There is no excuse for how sloppy he was at the border and blaming the opposition is no excuse.

    why does no one even to attempt to look at facts on this forum? It’s all anecdotes and opinion stories and misunderstandings of intent and personalities.. There were many facts posted above, yet it always needs to be about the commenter. Wonder why.
    The subject if what’s moderate brings in the reference point of the person saying it because there is no real accurate definition of a moderate. So the subjective comes into play. I think both Biden and Obama were moderates, which brings laughter to anyone on the right, or mildly right, who think they’re actual marxists.
