How do you grade HER performance based on your PRIOR expectations. Give a 1 to 5 rating.

I go 4. I think she did very well handling herself.

What do you think? Be honest.

  • the expectations on her were so low all she had to do was not fuck up. democrats kinda shot themselves in the foot bashing her all week. did people really think she wouldnt be ready for this?

if Dubya could ramble his way through debates, anyone can.

I kind of agree with your take. I didn't understand why they bashed her so close to the debate. They should have taken a week off or something and played her up.
  • 3.7 only because she kept saying "welll...up there in Alaska.." and..."nookular"....

I was seeing some Saturday night live skit parody at certain points as well.

Other than those issues...the lady can definitely speak, I'll give her that.

She didn't show she understood anything. She used talking points, and when counterattacked, she changed the subject. She didn't answer some questions. I didn't think she would fail stylistically, I wanted to get substance, and it wasn't there. She didn't defend when she attacked.

So I think she did terrible in regards to someone that could be President, but since the bar was so low, many think she did better.

  • She definitely did better than I thought she would. No major gaffes. Based on the expectations scale, I think that she handed in a 3. The "folksy" moments had me cringing.

based on expectations ... 4 ... but then again. Biden gets a 4 too ... becuase I thought he came across really well and handled Palin perfectly (not too arrogant, not too much pandering.)

Still ... Palin stating she agrees with Dick Cheney's expansion of the VP role ... coupled with the fact "she's only been at this 5 weeks" (HER words.) scary.

She wasn't atrocious. She didn't implode.

But anyone who thinks she was great...give me a break.

put that together with the fact she thinks the only bad decision Cheney made was shooting his friend duck hunting (though it was quail)

She did approximately what I thought she would do. She's not an idiot, she had some good moments and a few bad moments. She didn't seem to know the name of the commander in Afghanistan. She thinks it's McClellan and she clearly doesn't know what McKiernan actually said. Her line about teachers getting their reward in heaven is a potential bomb among teachers, who clearly feel that they are getting their reward daily as they see their students progress. Biden had some really excellent moments; his tone was pitch perfect. He hit her with McCain's health care being the ultimate bridge to nowhere. He also hit her with "past is prologue" when he really drilled home the idea that McCain has elucidated nothing new/different than Bush on a whole raft of issues.

I think Palin did what she needed to do to not embarrass herself and her party further, but her performance was far from any game changer. There will be no huge impact on the polls because of it, and as a matter of fact, independent women voters seem to be rushing to Obama/Biden--not based on Biden--although he handled his single parenthood exceptionally--but because women don't like what Palin has to say.

Ifill: "As Vice President, there's nothing you've promised as a candidate that you would take off the table because of this financial issue?"

Palin: "There is not, and how long have I been at this? Like five weeks?"

Not a game changer for sure. I don't think McCain's gambler's instinct on picking Palin was a very good one.

Anyone else notice that when she started rattling off one of her scripted talking points her voice became louder and she spoke faster. kinda creepy look in her eyess as well. She is good at memorizing crap talking points.

    I rate her at .....................1
  • I think it's the same 25% that think the rapture is coming any time now.

They all do that. Obama, Biden especially, McCain, Palin. They change the subject constantly. What it comes down to most of the time is they simply disagree. You can't take it any farther than that. The problem is, disagreement is "bad" considering both sides are trying to appeal to everyone. So they change the subject.

I give her a 4 also. I just can't wait to see how the Dems and the media will somehow try to get a new stereotype going about Palin. That is all that has been done against Palin. Stereotyping. She's not the VP yet, obviously, she never did anything glaringly abhorrent as governor or mayor. Actually, she did a pretty good job. So, all they had to go on was the idea of portraying her as the psycho religious, milf, redneck, pit bull fanatic from Alaska. Pathetic.

It's a sad state of affairs when people's political opinions come entirely from SNL.

You're waaaaaay off the mark here. How is it a stereotype to look at the things she has said and done and then make a judgement upon that? According to her own beliefs and the way she has acted out on them, she is a religious extremist. That's no stereotype, just the truth. She's likened herself to a pitbull and never stops talking about the centre of the world, Alaska, so how is that the media or Dems "stereotyping" her. Hell, if anyone was hoping for the MILF appeal and stereotype it was McCain.

So yeah, nice try, but you fail.

i give her a 2. politics aside. all she did was spout talking points and avoided several questions and kept changing the subject. the worst example was the achilles heel question.

    Honestly...

    Overall, I'd give her a 2.
not just b/c of my own political views.
she did NOT answer any of the questions!!! she skated around them.

I was surprised that Biden didn't call her out on this.

  • almost every question asked, she had a memorized answer ready to regurgitate at the ready. I liked when she was asked about her biggest shortcoming, or flaw, however the question was worded, she basically responded: I'm too awesome. or when she asked what concessions she has had to make while in power: she fell back on old faithful---I wanted to cut taxes even more and more, but they wouldn't let me. You could tell with Biden, it was authentic. Surely he was coached, but palin was programmed. for baseball fans, she reminded me of an Alex Rodriguez interview. Where you don't believe one word he is saying is authentic. his speechwriters wrote it for him, he tested it out in front of a focus group, fine tuned it, then met the press at his locker for a post game interview

I think she was totally outclassed! She was obviously prepared to say exactly what she was told. Overall, I think it's very scary to think this lady could possibly be a step away from leading the free world....

Plus I think she is the first VP candidate to ever give a "Shout out" at a debate.

    With that said....

I prefer to listen to what she has to say from her own mouth and then make my opinion...

I can see russia from my house......

    mmm hmmm.

No one had heard of her two months ago. She scares the hell out of me. I just can't find common ground with her on anything. Let's not forget the fact McCain will be just about 73 if he wins. There's a chance he'll die in office. Then what? We are stuck with her..... The Earth is 6,000 years old? Fossils...

C'mon. She governs probably the last great wilderness in the western world, and she wants to fuck it over for the last few drops of oil. Unbelievable.

SNL didn't make that up. They are her words.

I noted this and like you said the right will love this what else do they have to grab unto. That being said I think she did OK 3.5 almost 4. America tuned to see if she was going to implode and she didn't. She did well enough to convince those who have a smitten of faith in her to NOW believe in her totally.

She basically turned this race for President back unto the main characters Obama and McCain. She survived her main test however maybe down the road here we'll see or hear another end to her story.

PS. I just can't see myself everyday driving to work past the Naval Observatory knowing she's in the VP's house second in command a short trip down to the White House.

  • I watched the debates hoping to witness a train wreck, but I think she handled herself pretty well. There weren't any major fuck ups and she didn't just stand there in silence waiting for her time to wind down when asked with a question she couldn't answer.

Like I said, I think she did pretty well, although when expectations are built so low on a person it's almost an achievement when they come out with their shoes on. It's like when the class dunce gets a C+ on their midterm and everyone is like, "wow, somebody studied. Good for you."
