yeah, it's always reassuring when im sitting on the couch watching a football game to try and take my mind of what a shit state the world is in and i get reminded by those athletes that, while god isn't doing much for the starving homeless of the world, at least he's keeping an eye on the colts to make sure those millionaires get their due in the big game.

We were laughing all day at the comments from the broadcasters yesterday. We all had comments that Dungy and Smith should have been saying. Such as, " I sure don't want to be the first black coach to lose the super bowl". We thought it would have been fitting to have D. Williams toss the coin to represent the first black qb to win the bowl. You know, to keep up on the topic and such.

Now that they have driven the topic into the ground. Maybe it can just go away and become a f'n game again.

Oh and the comment during the game about what poor, poor, tank johnson went through just to be at the game. Illegal hand guns, tons of ammo. Yeah that is tough to overcome in the long run when you are trying to sack the qb.
You've changed your place in this world!

Wait a minute, don't you go to school in Chicago?

Now I get it. It's not about Dungy's faith at all. Is it?

I think we should ask YOU, if YOU squirted a few tears over your loss? Was it an emotional time in YOUR life? Were you just dying for a chance to break into the superbowl shuffle at the end of the game?

Sorry kiddo, I know how your feeling, keep your chin up, maybe next year huh?

i grew up in ohio 45 minutes south of detroit... i rooted for the lions... my tears ran out long ago ;)

i didnt even watch the game, couldn't care less about the bears. the buckeyes' pitiful showing in the national championship is what upset me. and even then, i made fun of troy smith for thanking god when he won the heisman. it's got nothing to do with whose team is doing it, it's just a goofy and ridiculous thing to do. im not even offended, which differs from the righteous indignation actors speaking their minds causes you (unless, of course, that actor speaks things you agree with like reagan and ah-nold... funny how the outrage only goes to LIBERAL hollywood types... freedom lover my ass ya hypocrite). im just amused.

I would think the all-knowing and all-powerful would be able to keep tabs on the Super Bowl, the homeless, the war in Iraq, and every other little thing in the world because said being is all-powerful.

Were any of the athletes (and Coaches) thanking god when they fumbled the ball three or four times and threw interceptions?

Who takes credit (or blame ) fo those miscues and mistakes?

Awesome. Simply awesome. Crosses my mind quite often when these dorky athletes start thanking their god.

    Priceless....a true class act imo.

Is he classy because he's simply a classy guy? Or is he classy because he's a Christian?

Also, do you know for a fact he's an "African American" ? You did research and a trace on his family's orgins and they traced back to Africa?

How about we took Dungy's word for it? How about that? No, let me guess....he's lying about being black (African American...symantics, folks).

    The bastard!

Anyway, I think it's safe to say that he's a classy guy because he's a classy guy. End of story. End of stupidity.

Guys in his position thank god all of the time. I really don't care. But "we did it in a Christian way" or whatever...I guess if I am a player or assistant coach on that team I check my Judaism, Islam, Agnosticism, Atheism, Budhism or whatever at the door. I'm there to win in a Christian way.

Instead of sitting there on the couch, why aren't you doing something for the starving homeless...?

If this is what you got out of football I can only guess that you weren't a good player. Football is about making a commitment to yourself to be the best you can be, making a commitment to your teamates to be the best you can be for them, it is about sacrificing your ego for the greater good of the team. How to get back up after you've been beat down. It's about trust, communications, caring. The lessons you learn in football you carry with you through your life, and can help make you a better person. I feel sorry for you that you only learned to be a "lawful savage".

It's about going all out from kickoff to closing whistle and at every practice inbetween. It's about having respect for your opponent, realizing that you can only be your best when your opponent requires you to bring it out. It has absolutely nothing to do with "lawful savages".

He never said God was on his side, he was thanking him for the opportunity and the ability to be as fortunate as he is. I dont think he was trying to infer that God is a Colts fan. Thanking God is annoying, I agree, but at least understand what he is saying before you decide to rip a guy for it.

im not ripping the guy. you admit it's annoying. that's all i was ever commenting on. actually, i wouldn't even go that far, cos im not annoyed by it. i just think it's funny and ridiculous. so i poke fun at people who do it. cos even if their intent is not to say god was on their side, it comes off that way almost every time.

    Bingo. Thank you.
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win
  • To all you idiots complaining about how a millionaire athlete can relate to God, I doubt many of you know what Coach Dungy has gone through the past two years. I doubt any of you can relate to being a deeply spiritual person who has had to cope with losing a child, only to find the personal strength to rise above it and reach the height of your profession only two years later.

It wasn't about making an oscar style acceptance speech or making a front...it was about being real and showing the world what your beliefs are.....God forbid anybody does that in today's society.

I do not know Coach Dungy personally nor am I a Colts fan - in fact I hated seeing horse face Manning win yesterday - but I am a huge football fan and every time I have seen a piece on Dungy he's always related spirtuallity or faith in his words.......and I was very happy to see Dungy win.

It only comes off that way because of your own opinion on the matter. The way he said it by no means tried to show that God somehow made the colts win. You are more or less attributing an idea to him that he clearly did not say. Thats your shortcoming, not his.

Played college ball as well. The point was that you take from football (and any sport or group activity) what you want. I learned tons of good things from sports that I apply everyday as a professional in the business world. If someone only sees "lawful savages" that's because that's all they chose to find.

Football's just a game, work's just work, family's just family, Pearl Jam's just music. Not sure if there was a point you were trying to make.

  • Anytime they thank God, it's not because they are thanking him for the outcome of game. They are thanking Him for blessing them with the lives they have. When you are successful and you thank God for it, you concede that you could not be what you are without Him. It's an act of humility before God's love.

Being thankful for blessings; conceding that this wonderful thing and your life would not be possible without Him.....oh my, what a concept!

But please don't let this logic stop any of you from dragging this drivel on.

That's called faith in one specific "God".

Not everyone believes in the same "God".

Not everyone believes in "God", period.

If you want to call up "Logic". "Logic" dictates, that which can not be seen, touched, felt or proven to exist; does not exist. That's logic.

    You're talking Faith. Not Logic.

    Don't confuse Faith and Logic.

She is talking about the "logic" that if a person believes in God, then that person might thank him for what that person perceives as blessings in their life. You guys are making way to much of this.

I'm afraid that you're confused....and I've confused nothing; and never said that anyone believes in one God or any God, period....

I refered to the *logic* of CorporateWhore's reasonable statement; not the logic of faith. Simple. No confusion on my part.

And if someone chooses not to see the savagery in football, it's also because they choose not to see it. No one said that's all there is to it, but it's certainly there. It's a good game, I enjoy watching it, but it IS savage ... that is not to say that you don't also learn other things by playing.
