yeah, it's always reassuring when im sitting on the couch watching a football game to try and take my mind of what a shit state the world is in and i get reminded by those athletes that, while god isn't doing much for the starving homeless of the world, at least he's keeping an eye on the colts to make sure those millionaires get their due in the big game.

Odds were that a Christian would win a Superbowl eventually.

I was damn happy to see him win. He really does seem like a classy guy.

Leave it to someone to be a jackass and make an assumption that the guy can't be genuine because he is a wealthy celebrity.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the athletes thanking God for helping them win like he really cared that the Colts won with all the crap going on around the world. Leave it to someone to make a jackass assumption.

ive no doubt he is very genuine, and his money matters little to me. i think it every time someone wins a sporting events, grammy, oscar, or anything else. "id like to thank god"... like god was sitting there watching going "you know, the bears have great D, but there's something about those colts... i gotta give some love to peyton and dungy, they deserve it!" it's just funny.

So wealthy athletes shouldn't thank God for their success because they are wealthy atheletes?

I would think the all-knowing and all-powerful would be able to keep tabs on the Super Bowl, the homeless, the war in Iraq, and every other little thing in the world because said being is all-powerful.

It isn't about rules for gratitude. It may be about rules for honesty. Hey, he put the work in, he did a good job, so, if anything he should be thanking himself.

Do you honestly think that god chooses to interfere in the outcome of NFL games????

so what should the bears think? god doesn't love them as much as the colts?

did you tear up or something then he got the trophy? was it an emotional moment in your life?

God is within. We are all capable of godliness. What that has to do with the game of football is practically nil.

The Bears were obviously on the "naughty, not nice" list.

    Oh c'mon you two.

I don't think that's what the original poster of the thing of, er, what you're replying to, is, um, centered toward. I think it was a fair question.

Except for Ladanian Tomlinson. And even Peyton Manning. Gayle Sayers back in the day.

Yeah. I shouldn't have backed that question actually. I apologize to the thread. It wasn't part of the Dungy program. I have to give him at least that much credit, unlike that particular poster.

Now go get me a big diamond necklace, dammit.

To the people saying "do you honestly think that God wants the colts to win"...seriously...umm...you are really putting words into people's mouths....you are helping to perpetuate the stereotypes...basically, you are the polar opposite of those saying "the terrorists hate us because of our freedomes." In other words, you're lazy when it comes to thinking.

Dungy's speech was inspiring, whether you believe in God or not. He was greatful that he was faced with obstacles, and if you know anything about football, you know what he's talking about. it would be so easy to give up if you were him. He was offering advice to all of us, regardless of your religious beliefs, but if you're that scared of the word "God," seriously, you are way too sensitive and take yourselves way too fucking seriously.

Take a step back from your hyper sensitive world and actually LISTEN to what he was saying.

    War Peyton :)

You think that because your religion is liberalism...b/c no objective observer could ever take that away from his speech. if the word "God" offends you, you are overly sensitive.

I'm an objective observer. I have no knowledge of the religion of liberalism. All I'm saying is, if you read my earlier post, is that he needs to be thanking himself for the work that he did. He felt some sort of need or pressure to bring Christianity into the mix, and I think that is weak, and dishonest to the game of football.

Yeah, because I'm sure that's EXACTLY what Dungy meant when he made that comment.

Come on...so the guy expresses that his faith is more important to him than the rest of the world's perception of his skin color in relation to his professional accolades...what the heck so annoying about that?!?!

maybe he found strength through his faith (regardless of what faith it is) and wanted to encourage other people to do the same.

again, if you honestly think it's weak, and "dishonest" to the game of football, you are wayyyyy too sensitive.

Well, what do you think about the other 1,000,000 fuckers over the last month that have brought Dungy and Lovie Smith's skin color into it?!?! Don't you think that's a bit weak?!?! Talk about politicizing the whole thing...

And if you want to know the truth...I think Dungy was sick of hearing about "first black coach this, first black coach that" too...

It was half and half to me when i listened to the comment. He was squeezing through some sort of door there. It seemed dishonest to me because I have played organized football and it is the game of lawful savages.

He detracted from that, and that was cool. I think, to me, he would have been better served hailing the game itself. It's quite a game, I love it, and he does too, maybe even more than Christianity.

yeah, so like i said, i think we're all a little too sensitive over this crap...i'm guessing most posters here see speeches like that much more awkward than wardrobe malfunctions. not that i find either unconfortable, just pointing out how assinine it is to work yourself up over these types of comments. relax :)
