Nice to see level headed reply in here. :)

but to be honest, i think we all understand the point of SPEEDY. i cannot imagine what i would want to do to animals that would do this to my children. i cannot honestly say i wouldnt want them dead. i believe strongly against the death penalty, but i will always admit that my opinion could change in circumstances involving me or my family. i only hope i never have to cross that bridge.

I see no need for more than pot and alcohol. But if other adults choose to waste themselves more quickly by using everything you just mentioned?

It's their choice, as long as they don't sell or give it to minors.

Of course the emotional response to having this happen to one of your own children would be to want these guys dead. But that's why we have a legal system that encourages a more objective approach. Killing people doesn't solve anything...it only makes you a murderer.

Might as well make it legal...drugs being illegal sure hasn't hindered anyone who ever wanted to get high. And I don't care what other adults choose to do with their time. Just like alcohol, don't give it to kids and don't drive while under the influence.

so you also have no problem with selling 25 lbs. heroin to an 18 year old kid???

    or cocaine???...or crystal meth????

    this should be legal????

i'm sorry, but being objective when some animal has sexually abused MY child isn't ever gonna happen. an emotional response is just a basic instinct.

the legal system is far from infallible.

I don't think 18 years old should be doing heroin, hell...I wouldn't advise anyone to do that stuff. But that doesn't mean that they aren't going to get it when they want it anyway. They do and will always continue to get high any way they choose.

Of course, as a parent you obviously would use your basic instinct and have a fierce emotional reaction....but that's not the issue here. Parents in these cases don't get to decide the fate of these criminals for a reason.

And you don't even have to tell me about the justice system being screwed up...I know. That being said... it's a whole lot more reasonable than letting emotional reactions dictate our sentencing and correctional system.

That's an excellent question, and I haven't seen any death penalty supporters answer it. So, I'll repeat. Is it o.k. for the State to execute a few innocent people provided they get the guilty ones too?

You're right, that's extremely silly. An innocent person serving a life sentence, while he'll never get his time back, can be released and compensated. So can a person serving a 20 year sentence. Until we convince Jesus to work for our legal system, there's no bringing back the dead.

hundreds maybe thousands of people have served life sentences for crimes they did not commit.....rotted away in prison...and died in prison....

is that not a death penalty???

No, it's not. That's a tragedy, sure, and one of the reasons we have the "endless appeals" process in this country that so many people like to complain about. But it's not the death penalty. It's life in prison.

So are you saying that it's O.K. to kill a few wrongfully convicted innocent people provided we get some guilty ones too?

what i am saying.....and have said all along....

is that i am a firm believer in the death penalty..........

and if innocent people are put to death....for a crime they did not commit...

then i guess i will agree with you....that it is a tragedy......

Then I have to ask, why the need to kill them? I can see a need to punish them. I can see a need to remove them from society. I can see how a wrongfully imprisoned person can be released. Is your need for revenge so strong that you are willing to let slide State sanctioned murder of innocent people? I'm guessing that's provided the innocent person being murdered isn't someone you know.

But let's say it is. The State has murdered someone you love. The penalty for murder is death, by your own reasoning. Who do we kill in retribution? Or would a heafty payout be enough for you?

One thing i think they can do to strenghthen penalties...which i think makes sense is this:

Instead of charging them w/ distributing images...etc. Shouldn't they be charged w/ the rape and torchure of children if they are paying to watch this happen (esp. in real time)? I mean, I think, if you paid to have someone else do those types of sickening things...then you should be charged w/ the same crimes as though you have done them yourself!
