That's a non sense argument. The justice system in our societies is based on reason not emotional judgment. The pain of an individual cannot decide the course of action for a whole society, or you legitimate vengeance and vendetta and just let everyone deal with criminals by themselves.

Honestly though, i've never really thought that capital punishment offers much in the way of true justice anyway. If it were my children, it wouldn't make me feel any better for the guy who hurt them to be killed by government officials. If I were to be the one to kill him in the same brutal fashion... that MIGHT make me feel a little better, but for only a brief time. At the end of the day my kids are still gone. i honestly think i would feel better knowing the fucker was suffering, every day for the rest of his life (i would also like to be allowed to come by everyday and inflict a little suffering myself

Of the people i've met that have suffered sexual abuse none of them have ever said they're abusers should get the death penalty.

What will it accomplish? It won't bring back innocence to the children, it won't stop other pedophiles from acting (did death penalty stop murders from happening in states where it's used?), I don't think it would accomplish anything. Appart from easing our taste for vengeance.
Sometimes I feel like I wouldn't mind seeing some criminals die a slow painful death, but this is not what I want for my society.
it just sickens me that people prey on young defenseless children for their sexual pleasure....

the fear of the death penalty certainly might stop others from being pedophiles. and I'm with ya on the slow painful death. maybe that will help deter it.
but what would you suggest the penalty be? and again, i'm not a huge cheerleader for the death penalty but for people who rape children, something needs to happen more then probation.

I don't think the fear of the death penalty stops anyone other than those fearing life in prison.
Take someone willing to commit the crime knowing he will get life in prison if he gets caught : chances are he will also commit the crime risking the death penalty. We all now someone who expressed the wish to die, but I never heard anyone wanting to spend his life in prison.
I always thought that for cases that got the death penalty an incompressible life sentence would be a fair equivalent
As for your last two questions (and man, those are some questions - the question marks prove it. Me? I'm more a fan of parenthetical asides), well, I don't know. Perhaps they'll be rapists in prison, perhaps not. Chances are, they'll be on the receiving end. I hear tell pedophiles don't do so well in the general population. Instead, what you've brought up is an issue with our prison system itself. When confined, dangerous people are still dangerous - only now they're concentrated and mixed in with less violent offenders. In that mix, who do you think's going to end up as a plaything? Ah, but that's a different topic.
We're talking about the death penalty. Personally, even as a liberal I can't see myself trusting the State that much.
