When will Micheal Richards stop apologizing?

There are rapists and murderers that never have to atone or apologize for thier deeds, but Micheal Richards is still going strong. What are we at, now? Six public apologies? Seven?
The cynics say he's doing it to salvage his career, and that is probably correct to some extent. But should what he did even be a career-ending move? The whole thing was an idiotic lapse in judgment, and he SHOULD have apologized. But the whole thing hasn't blown over yet, and I am wondering why. This whole scenario raises some tough questions. What if Richards had used a racial slur that denotes Hispanics? Or Asians? Or what if his tirade had been directed at homosexuals? Its a bit of a crude question, but what is so special about racism directed towards black people? Its like its somehow a worse form of racism or prejudice in the U.S. Everyone can more or less freely admit that they loathe illegal immigrants (most of whom are Hispanic), but dare say the so-called N-word, and its instant crucifiction. WTF?!!! Homosexuals are the target of what people call a "safe" form of prejudice ... And where is the Jesse Jackson for gays? How disempowered are black people, really? I mean, obviously there are still a great many people living in abject poverty, subjected to racism. But I dare say that racism against non-black minorities seems to fly more often. I think we need to play catch up.

I, for one, am against all racism. I listened to his first apology. Don't give enough of a rat's ass about him to listen to anymore. I will continue to watch reruns of Seinfeld whenever I happen to be flipping through channels and see that it's on, but other than that I will not be watching anything that has Richards in it. I did the same thing for Gibson.

Thats ridiculous. Im giving up anything with Micheal Richards in it, unless its seinfeld?

Hey look, the toothless woman is giving up steak!

Is watching reruns of Seinfeld going to be putting money in his pocket? I thought no, but if it is, fuck it. I'll stop watching that too.
  • i had a problem when he was apologizing with jesse jackson.....

cuz i couldnt figure out who was the bigger racist between the two....

These 'Racism! Racism!' things always spin out of control. Yeah, the guy's a dick... (I know a gal who used to waitress at a place near the studios and she told me a long time ago that Kramer and George were assholes... Jerry and Elaine were nice and Jerry was a great tipper)... he let his true colors fly... just like Mel did... and got busted.
Say you're sorry and mean it.
Continually sucking on Blackzilla only makes you a cock-sucker... just apologise for your actions... mean it... and accept what people give you.

i'd never watch anything else he was in only because everything else sucked cock. let's list the movies he's been in:

    transylvania 6-5000 (yawn)
    UHF (yawn)
    problem child (yawn)
coneheads (honestly, i don't remember him in this, but he was according to imdb)
so i married an axe murderer (ugh)
airheads (wow, i found a movie he's in that i'd actually watch again)
trial and error (good god, someone shoot me)

there were a few other movies listed, but nothing i recognized. not really a stellar list he has going, and he only had a leading role in one of those movies...trial and error, which was fucking horrible.

i dig seinfeld and i'll keep watching it and laughing at it. i'll even *gasp!* buy the seasons on dvd. i won't bother with seeing him do stand-up, though. i've listened to some of his stand-up before this whole thing happened, and it wasn't really that funny.

oh my god, get over it already.........

so what, he called a couple of people 'nigger'? does that really matter as much as it has been blown so far out of proportion....he apologized, move on

looking at this from a foreign perspective, im sorry to say but once again, it seems like this kinda thing could only happen in america.....the PC capital of the world

Perhaps he and others believe quite differently than you. Perhaps there is supressed racism throughout the world that has a profound effect and dangerous effect. Perhaps Mr Richards suprized himself - and is in the process of learning something about himself - and maybe wants not to just push it aside and suppress it. Maybe his reconciliation is in the sharing of his uncovering of thoughts he has hidden from himself.

Perhaps you're right about his motives ... But you didn't really address my points. And no one said anything about suppressing anything. I said an apology was necessary. I think its gone a bit beyond apologizing at this point, though.

Thats kinda my point. Anyone who says they'll still watch seinfeld, but nothing else isnt making any sort of altruistic point. Its just the rest of his shit has sucked.

  • I bet you he was the happiest man alive when the NYPD shot that black guy over the weekend! Took the attention right off of him!

actually, i was thinking what if his rage was directed at jews?? i wonder if jerry seinfeld would have let him appear on david letterman with him to apologize??

season 7. I just got mine. hilarious stuff
  • My question is why does this get tons of press, but a well-known x-NFL star and current broadcaster says similar racist remarks and goes virtually unnoticed.

That statement was not similar in my opinion

i cant believe people are making such a big deal about this. it is quite laughable when people like al sharpton (it could have been jesse jackson) called for a boycotte on season 7 of seinfeld...

    *waiting to be jumped*

Not similar in terms of hate-filled, but racial none the less. Flip the script and have a white commentator say that line and you better believe he's fired or suspended. In our over-pursuit of PC we neglect the reverse racism that is all around us. Just think of things we have around us that are crazy, especially if it were reversed. Black colleges, Black Entertainment Television. Now I know there are many unspoken white only establishments, but could you imagine if they went so far as to name them as white only?

What Richards did was heinous and we should all learn from it, but I'm sort of tired of the one way street. If it's wrong, it's wrong.

    Black colleges,

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but there are not really "black colleges." Yes, I know of Grambling State and Howard, but these are "traditionally black colleges" dating back to when the powers that be were not so big on integration.

These universities have remained traditionally black because very few non-blacks ever apply. Would you want to go to one? "PC" liberal that I am, I admit that I would not have wanted to be in the minority on that campus (though I may have known what it felt like for some of the black students at "traditionally white" University of Wisconsin).
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

I heard some of the KKKramer interview with Jesse Jackson

when asked if he ever used the N word before he had like a 3 second pause before he got to NO

and the rest of it sounded like he was reading from a piece of paper or half asleep

he needs to just say he was on crack or something... enough apologizing

no chance in hell would i have gone. this is the hypocrisy underlying much of this kid-glove PC nonsense. it's like in the days of bussing for integration. people were a-ok with bussing black kids out to their suburban schools, but talk about bussing their kid into the city and they suddenly shut up. mention voucher programs and they scream about how we should give inner city schools adequate funding, but talk about taking some of their tax money to even the playing field and suddenly it's a bad idea.

we're all racist to some extent. i can pretty much guarantee that any white person tearing michael richards a new one would be shitting their pants if they were down in harlem late at night.

Nope, we got some dirty looks and some funny looks and a guy claiming I broke his sandwich (very very funny), but most people were cool, quite a lot of friendly people as well. Maybe we were lucky.

That's not racism... That's realism. Who is so PC that they are dumb enough to have absolutely no fear in a dangerous neighborhood?
