I haven't seen a post with the lack of class of robbie's from someone on the right (celebrating the death of an extreme opponent using the vulgarity that was used) that I remember. I do remember a lot of those kinds of posts when Reagan died though. Those were also from the left. I can just imagine what kind of columns will be posted and celebrated on this board soon.
So, essentially, you are saying that there is an obvious flaw in the moral fiber of the Left that doesn't exist in the Right. The Right side is more humane than the Left.
How quick we all forget Miller's posts last spring when Israel was bombing Lebanon. And those were mostly civilians that never said or did a single thing to piss him off.
Show me the last time I celebrated the death of a political opponent of mine.
Do you mourn every suicide bomber that dies? Do you respect Hitler's family by talking nice about him? Did you hold a vigil over Hussein's death because of 'respect'. I never understand how some people can think in such black or white terms. There are degrees of everything. People who do shitty things in this life don't deserve the same respect as others. Plain and simple.

Gee. I feel bad.
I'm neither.
I have not said that. I have, once again, talked about this board as a separate entity from the real world.
I can't believe this thread lasted so long. A person who was extremely powerful, and divided the country died. Some people are going to be happy that he can't act anymore, some people are sad.
One person made a tasteless comment. Get over it. How did this turn in to a left v. right thing?

No, but I didn't make crass comments like robbie either.

I have learned on this board that we should have forgiven Bin Laden. I have learned that all people from the side that opposes this board's dominant extremism do is preach hate. We have all been compared with Nazis and been called racists by people on this board. We have all been accused of having our heads stuck in the sand as we are just fearful of the world around us. This, all by people who call people who I vote for "hatemongers." This is where the hypocrisy is coming from. It is the holier than thou crowd. This crowd is much like the extreme right in many ways. The difference is that the left that I speak of here have a heavy representation on this board. I feel like I'm reading Ann Coulter's column every time I come here and see certain names around posts. Then I realize that they are coming from the left instead.
yikes...! I missed some of the stuff you mentioned...forgiving bin laden...? was that a single poster or group consensus...?
I do have to say that the nazi analogy (not the killing of jews nazi's, but the taking over the world nazi's) has some merit, as well as the heads being stuck somewhere...for me that's not hate, that's someone making a point...
and comparing this place to coulter...? I'm sorry, I don't see it...
I always wonder why when a controversial figure like Falwell dies people just don't keep their humanity and say something like "He fought for what he believed was right and was best for the country. I may not have agreed with his views but I do share the same passion he did for this country and its people." It doesn't take much to respectfully disagree with someone, and I think the least you can do on the day of his death is find some commonality.

I had to hear what he had to say, his family won't hear what I have to say and I don't care that they do. I will have the good taste of not spitting my venom in his family's face. As hippiemom said, I doubt his family hangs out here.
Yeah, its absolutetly impossible that in a family of averages size that you would have distinct and different tastes in philosophy, religion, music, etc. No way could anyone related to him be a pearl jam fan.
I wont miss his "contributions" to society either, and I won't dispute that SOME would probably make crass comments should Al Franken die, but to light one up and celebrate, whether a joke or not, just isnt right.
When one of the many people on this very board dies from the diseases they live with, will it be passed over if a few jackasses decided to "smoke a fatty and celebrate their death" just because they didnt like/respect them?? Ive said some fucked up shit, in RL and here, but there IS a line people.
The few true compassionate liberals/conservatives/humans on this board must cringe every time one of these jackasses comes here and makes comments like some in this thread. Like it or not, they make your whole group look bad.
Gross. There are way hotter people I'd rather read about.
yes exactly my point...

Would you make the same argument about Hitler?
And since when did this board all of a sudden become so P.C. that it's a big deal to make a tasteless comment now and then?

Today might be a good day to do some research on Mr. Falwell so I can get a better picture of the man. I don't remember too many positive things about him but given his line of work, I'd say he probably worked towards doing some good for other people. I hope his charities live on but I'm sure not going to miss his words. I don't know whether I'm in the majority or if my thoughts are moral.

So this is your benchmark for humanity? You'll find a way to compare everyone to Hitler or apologize for someone's boorish behavior by pulling a Hitler analogy. Some days people just make me sad.

As I said, unfortunately it's often times the best name to throw out to people to illustrate a 'bad person'. How does that make it a benchmark for humanity? It's called an example. Not a 1 to 1 comparison! Duh.
How about....would you be against celebrating the death of a serial rapist/murderer? How about a KKK grand master? A child rapist/torturer? A neo-Nazi skinhead who recruited school children? I'm not looking for a benchmark, I'm trying to illustrate a point which some of you don't even seem to comprehend.
If you live this life in a poor manner, preach hate (real HATE, not your 'libs hate Bush' fantasies) and generally leave a trail of venom in your wake, do not expect to be remembered fondly.

and God only knows in heaven they must trust

I wouldn't suggest celebrating the death of anyone. I'm sure your mom and dad have pissed off a person or two in their life. I hope you'd find it awful behavior for that person to be publically celebratig your mom or dad's death. But the way you go on you may invite them to the funeral for an "objective" point of view on your mom and dad's life.

I would want to hear every side and hear everyone that has been affected by them, good or bad. I wouldn't expect someone to come to the funeral to my face and go on about it, but I wouldn't be so sheltered to expect them to express it somewhere else, say maybe the internet, especially if they were public people.
But again, you can't compare someone who affected one person negatively on a personal level to a man who preached hate and divisiveness to hundreds of millions. No comparison. Thus the 'Hitler comparison', because again you people can't see the degrees of difference. Black and white is all you see.

It's the only way to illustrate a 'bad man' to some people. Unfortunately throwing out Pinochet and others is lost on many.
