    i didn't want to look at him.

    i didn't make it. arlo's arms wrapped around me and i collapsed into him sobbing.

    'you've got to stop thinking that you can't come to me anna.'

    he stroked my head, holding me close, not willing to let me get away.

    I must have fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes sunshine fell through the living room window. I looked up to see where Arlo was but he wasn't in the room. I decided not bother getting up from the couch. I vaguely could make out some noises from the kitchen so I just kept laying there waiting on what would happen next while staring at the ceiling.

    arlo was talking on the phone. i couldn't make out what he was saying though. i got up and walked to the bathroom. sitting on the edge of the bath resting my head in my hands, i heard a soft knock on the door. without me answering, arlo opened the door and walked in. he knelt in front of me and took my hands in his. i tried to pull away but he wouldn't let me. i looked into his eyes and burst out crying. he pulled me to him and wrapped his arms around me.

    'i want to kill him for what he did to me.'

    arlo's face fell. a woman had never said that to him and it hurt. it didn't matter that he knew anna needed some leeway. and that what she had gone through was incomprehensible to him. to have your lover say they couldn't stand to have you touch them....well....there really was no comeback for that. he could see that anna was getting irritable.

    'i don't belong here.'

    he couldn't let her go. not when she was like this.

    arlo hesitated. i looked him. in disgust. with disgust. i didn't know whether it was for him or me.

    as i stood up i felt his hand on my leg. he held it behind my knee. i stopped not daring to say or do anything. i heard arlo breathe out and speak.....

Yes I am scared that there is a chance you might hurt yourself, but I am even more scared that you will distance yourself from me to an extent that there is no turning it around.
