I have, and I have to say...the album is pretty incedible.
I know a lot of people on these board does not listen to, like, or can even tolerate rap. However, "Tha Carter III" is our generation take on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" in terms of moving hip-hop forward after a stagnant period.
Love it or hate it, hip-hop is a legiimate music genre presently. And this album is a bonafide classics in that it's smart, sharp, and well produced. It's an important album for music in that it's moving hip-hop forward.
Sure there are a number of horrid rap acts, but have you listened to modern rock radio lately? It's pretty awful too.
He sampled a Rolling Stones song without getting clearnance. Ask that guy from the verve what a bad idea that is...Mick Jagger is more gangsta than any rapper."Music is the glue that holds everything together. Without it, everything would fall apart." --Eddie (From the movie EMPIRE RECORDS)0 -

Word. They stated this negative, violent language associated with his music would effect their image. They are going to clean up.
Do not mess with Mick."Music is the glue that holds everything together. Without it, everything would fall apart." --Eddie (From the movie EMPIRE RECORDS)0 -

He ain't the GZA, THE GENIUS, that's for sure.
Shit, U-GOD would shit on Weezy!
WU-TANG!
Seriously though...
I'm trying to see what's so great about this guy, seeing as how so many people actually think he's the greatest rapper alive.
I think anyone can have a few moments of brilliance... The majority of Weezy's stuff that I've heard really does sound like most of everything else out there. Some of his beats are pretty good, some suck. Hip Hop is all about the punchline these days... 1 good line makes or breaks a song in a lot of cases. I'm not a fan of this. I'd rather hear someone come with a full song of quality stuff rather than 1 line that everyone thinks is great (which usually ends up being pretty stupid anyway).
As for the 1 million copies in a week... In recent history, I'm sure the last 5 "artists" to do it are all garbage. It's consistent with what people like in popular music these days: TERRIBLE SHIT.
And, it might just be a matter of taste, but I can't stand the guy's voice. Same thing that killed RUSH for me... Can't get past the vocalist's sound / delievery.
On that note, I'm going to ROCK THE BELLS @ Jones Beach on Sunday. It's gonna be sick:
A TRIBE CALLED QUEST, NAS, MOS DEF, THE PHARCYDE, DE LA SOUL, METHOD MAN & REDMAN, RAEKWON & GHOSTFACE, IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE, DEAD PREZ, MURS, SPANK ROCK, WALE, JAY ELECTRONICA, SANTOGOLD, COOL KIDS, B.O.B, KIDZ IN THE HALL, AMANDA BLANK and HOSTED BY- B-REAL, SUPERNATURAL AND SCRATCH and DJ GREEN LANTERN0 -
the first thing i notice when listening to new music (rock/rap/whatever) is how it sounds and not the lyrics, lyrics are usually not understandible until after a few listens. Now i've heard a couple lil wayne songs and it just sounds obnoxious. He may be saying the most awesome lyrics, i don't know, i just don't like his flow style. it's kinda spastic. i perfer rappers that keep a rhythm in their flow.Down in the hole, Jesus tries to crack a smile beneath another shovel load.0

Sorry for bumping this.......
I don't like much rap these days, but I do like one of these songs that he actually SANG with The Game (who I think is fucking horrible!) called "My Life".
Listen to it here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzpPxxHLBKo.
I like it,though I DON'T like rap and any of the "Lollipop" bullshit. To Someone Who Needed To Move Their Car:"Congratulations! You win,you get towed!"-E.V.
ilovesinging-The crazy lady that you catch in detention. Yeah, you can talk to me.
I am me-I would love to keep it that way.0 -
