Nice work. Tres records represent! Just saw Panda a few weeks ago actually.

I saw PUTS and GP supported them in a dingy little venue in manchester a year or two ago, think it was last year. It rates as one of my fave gigs of all time as there was only about 100 people there and we were stood right against this tiny little stage that was only about 18 inches high!! I even got Thes One to sign my mates jacket after the show cos they were just hanging around in the club, oh and my wife was dancing on stage for the last song with em all! Sweeeeeeeet indeed :D

I saw them in a similar venue(GP that is) Our former pit member MasterFramer went to school with them and I'd met them a few times previous to the show. They're all super cool and it's always nice to have all access :)

    Have you heard the album?

I have, and I have to say...the album is pretty incedible.

I know a lot of people on these board does not listen to, like, or can even tolerate rap. However, "Tha Carter III" is our generation take on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" in terms of moving hip-hop forward after a stagnant period.

Love it or hate it, hip-hop is a legiimate music genre presently. And this album is a bonafide classics in that it's smart, sharp, and well produced. It's an important album for music in that it's moving hip-hop forward.

Sure there are a number of horrid rap acts, but have you listened to modern rock radio lately? It's pretty awful too.
I LOVE hip-hop, have since I was 9. 10 years of listening. I think Wayne is shite :o

Geto Boys, Undaground Kingz, Diamond D and early Outkast are awesome, as is a ton of early-mid 90s southern stuff but I agree now that most southern rap today is terrible.

so if southern rap is THAT bad then why is Weezy the most popular rapper out there right now?

To say someone sucks and is nothing is different than not liking them. I personally do not like Nas, but he doesn't suck, he's extremely talented.

Wayne's image is different than those icon rappers by being the stereotypical gangster who loves women, but he still lays down some of the best rhymes since tupac and big, hense why he is being compared. The way he says "yessssir" or "yaaa dig?" You gotta love it

I'm not saying jump on the bandwagon, but what I'm saying is give his mixtapes a listen and tell me you dont think he's got talent, even if you dont like the songs

I'm not a big fan of that style nor can I stand their songs. I think we all can blame Master P for that.

oh Outkast are overrated in my opinion. The Geto Boys- well, I only heard their song "Good to be Gangsta"...though I must admit Scarface's solo stuff is pretty good, but not good enough for me to care.

As much as I hate New York sports, I always liked their rap scene and hip hop history. NYC is where I'd like to hear rap. I'm not even a fan of the Westcoast stuff either. Yeah, I know I sound like I'm making a coastal/regional beef here but whatever... :D

More than the grossly exaggerated praise for his lyrics and flow, what really bugs me about Wayne is that he has one of the worst voices in hip-hop and shite beats.

I just don't get it. Trust me, I'm trying. I love hip-hop. Was my first musical love. I just don't see this apparent talent.

I don't even particularly rate Aesop but as far as abstract lyricism and crazy flow go, this pisses all over Weezy and yet he stays pretty much underground.

I agree 110%. Nothing about him appeals. He's fuckign annoying and his beats are lame as shit. You can tell the huge talent gap between him and rappers such as Biggy, 2Pac, Dre, E, Snoop, Warren G, Nate Dogg and Scarface. The difference is that unlike the best Wayne has no good flow. He's slow, his metaphors suck dick and his rhymes are hardly rhymes at all.

Go like sushi, im tryin to dip my celery

    Ah's, oo wee's, wa la's, ta da's
Mhm's, ah ha's, oh yes, never oh no's
Until I have to go, and then its never oh no
I tell her dont cry, I be back like the electric bill
And when she butt naked she dressed to kill

That has to be one of the stupidest rap verses I have ever fucking heard.

Overall I really see how people can stand his flow, rhythm and beats. Not to mention his horrid voice.

Exactly. Mentioning that in the same breath as Tupac and Biggie is offensive. Here's a randomly picked Biggie passage:

"I'm seeing body after body and our mayor Guiliani
ain't tryin to see no black man turn to John Gotti.
My daughter use a potty so she's older now,
Educated street knowledge I'm-a mold her now
Trick a little dough buying young girls fringes,
Dealin' with the dope fiend binges, seeing syringes
in the veins; hard to explain, how I maintain,
the crack smoke make my brain feel so strange."

    THAT'S flow.

He ain't the GZA, THE GENIUS, that's for sure.

Shit, U-GOD would shit on Weezy!

    WU-TANG!

    Seriously though...

I'm trying to see what's so great about this guy, seeing as how so many people actually think he's the greatest rapper alive.

I think anyone can have a few moments of brilliance... The majority of Weezy's stuff that I've heard really does sound like most of everything else out there. Some of his beats are pretty good, some suck. Hip Hop is all about the punchline these days... 1 good line makes or breaks a song in a lot of cases. I'm not a fan of this. I'd rather hear someone come with a full song of quality stuff rather than 1 line that everyone thinks is great (which usually ends up being pretty stupid anyway).

As for the 1 million copies in a week... In recent history, I'm sure the last 5 "artists" to do it are all garbage. It's consistent with what people like in popular music these days: TERRIBLE SHIT.

And, it might just be a matter of taste, but I can't stand the guy's voice. Same thing that killed RUSH for me... Can't get past the vocalist's sound / delievery.

On that note, I'm going to ROCK THE BELLS @ Jones Beach on Sunday. It's gonna be sick:

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST, NAS, MOS DEF, THE PHARCYDE, DE LA SOUL, METHOD MAN & REDMAN, RAEKWON & GHOSTFACE, IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE, DEAD PREZ, MURS, SPANK ROCK, WALE, JAY ELECTRONICA, SANTOGOLD, COOL KIDS, B.O.B, KIDZ IN THE HALL, AMANDA BLANK and HOSTED BY- B-REAL, SUPERNATURAL AND SCRATCH and DJ GREEN LANTERN

the first thing i notice when listening to new music (rock/rap/whatever) is how it sounds and not the lyrics, lyrics are usually not understandible until after a few listens. Now i've heard a couple lil wayne songs and it just sounds obnoxious. He may be saying the most awesome lyrics, i don't know, i just don't like his flow style. it's kinda spastic. i perfer rappers that keep a rhythm in their flow.
