    Have you heard the album?

I have, and I have to say...the album is pretty incedible.

I know a lot of people on these board does not listen to, like, or can even tolerate rap. However, "Tha Carter III" is our generation take on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" in terms of moving hip-hop forward after a stagnant period.

Love it or hate it, hip-hop is a legiimate music genre presently. And this album is a bonafide classics in that it's smart, sharp, and well produced. It's an important album for music in that it's moving hip-hop forward.

Sure there are a number of horrid rap acts, but have you listened to modern rock radio lately? It's pretty awful too.

This crap is no different than the awful rap that has been popular for almost a decade now. This album is proof that rap will never be good again and people have just settled for less.

I almost bought it the other day, but it wasn't on sale. So I got TI urban legend for $7.99 instead.

Ive listened to samples after hearing about all the hype. What makes you think it is any different than what is on the radio? Its basically just another radio friendly rap album with uneducated lyrics and no creativity at all.

    Yeah fucking right.

Obviously you are talking out of your ass. How about these uneducated lyrics...

    (Robin Thicke)
    We are at war
    With the universe
    The sky is falling
and the only thing that can save us now
    is sensitivity and compassion

But I know one thing's for sure
I'm gonna get my kicks before it all burns down

    (Lil Wayne)
yeah, Some say tragedy is hard to get over
But some time that tragedy means its over, soulja
from the academy, league of rollers
I deny being down though they seem to hold us
my shoulders are strong, i prove them wrong
I ain't doing nothin but movin on, let the truth be known
But they talk that freedom matters, and didn't even leave a ladder, damn

    (Robin Thicke)
I work at the corner store
    We all got problems problems
    Who was gon fight alone
No one's gon save us now
How you feel, you're not alone
    We're all just jealous jealous
We don't reach the sky no more
    We just can't overcome no

    Chorus (Robin Thicke)
    You tie my hands
    What am I gonna be
What have I done so bad
    What is my destiny
    You tie my hands
What am I supposed to see
What have I done so bad
    What am I gonna be

    (Lil Wayne)
I, knock on the door, hope isn't home,
fates not around, the lucks all gone
don't ask me whats wrong, ask me whats right
and ima tell you whats life
    and did you know?
I lost everything, but I ain't the only one
first came the hurricane, then the morning sun
Excuse me if I'm on one, and don't trip if i light one, i walk a tight one
They try to tell me keep my eyes open
my whole city under water, some people still floatin
and they wonder why black people still voting, cause your presidents still chokin
Take away the football team, the basketball team
now all we got is me to represent New Orleans, shit
no governor, no help from the mayor
just a steady beatin heart, and a wish and a prayer
    lets pray

    (Robin Thicke)
These friends they come and go
    but I got family family
These kids so fast they grow
    They learn so quickly now
But there's no where to go,
    but there's future future
Don't make this seem so low
    And we can't overcome

    Chorus

    (Lil Wayne)
and if you come from under that water then theres fresh air
just breathe baby, gods got a blessing to spare
yes, i know the process has so much stress
but its the progress that feels the best
cause i came from the projects straight to success
and your next, so try they cant steal your pride its inside
then find it and keep on grinding
cause in every dark cloud theres a silver lining
    I know...

    yeah, yeah... yeah
see... Right now we just riding on love
And shine in the dark, we aint tryna do nothing but be at the heart
We need love, that's all now

    Chorus:
You tie my hands, what am i gonna be
What have i done so bad, what is my destiny
You tie my hands, what am I going to see
What have I done so bad, what am I gonna be

    Lil Wayne
Born right here in the USA
But due to tragedy, looked on by the whole world as a refugee
So, accept my emotion, do not take it as an offensive gesture
It's just the epitome of my soul
    And I must be me
    We got spirit y'all
    We go spirit
    We got soul y'all
    We got soul
They don't want us to see, But we already know

Yeah, that is totally the same as shit on the radio.

at first when i read this persons post about it being the next chronic, i was like , what? LIL WAYNE? no way....

then i see your sobering post pjoasis and i will take your word that i shall not dl this album.

nothing about Hiphop can impress me right now. unless KRS is in the place. or Common or consciousness in general.

I stopped reading the lyrics after I saw the word "soulja". Im so sick of rap songs with these damn R&B singers in the chorus. Rap used to be more rugged, funky, and just pure quality.

HA HA - I'm staying out of this battle...

But I do recall hearing a lyric:

"That pussy in my mouth has me lost for words"

    HA HA
  • Is Lil Wayne related to Lil Bow Wow? Or My Lil Pony?
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

    - the great Sir Leo Harrison

i think this album will still be completely forgotten within a year. Just like all rap.

  • WOW. I can't believe how close minded you people are. This album is incredible, no joke. Read every review there is. This album is a hip-hop classic and sounds NOTHING like radio rap.

And for you people who doubit it, check this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSTKCER_B1Q

Sounds more like classic hip-hop to me than what you guys are talking about.

    What?

Classic hip-hop is N.W.A., De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, (Young) Nas, Beastie Boys, Run D.M.C., Wu-Tang, etc.

The only hip-hoppers out there actually trying now a days to make good music are Jay-Z, Kanye, Common, KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Rhymefest, The Roots, and now Lil Wayne. (sure I'e forgotten a couple)

Did you even listen to that clip? Does it sound like radio rap to you? Yeah, didn't think so.

  • I didn't think selling over a million albums in one week was possible this day and age.
makes much more sense to live in the present tense

He is. Also related: Lil' Kim and Lil' Mama and Lil' Jon. Fun fact - Mini Me is a distant cousin.
  • Everything I have heard from him has yet to impress me. Sorry to be so vocal but when half of his songs have him rhyming "nigga" with "nigg-uh" and he's called the best rapper to come out I seriously cannot believe the hype. His style blows, his voice is annoying as shit, his beats/production sucks. Nothing about him really thrills me. His rhymes and beats do nothing for me. I'll just keep listening to actual classics such as:

    Scarface- The Fix
Dr. Dre- The Chronic and 2001
    Warren G- Regulate....G Funk Era
