I'm really struggling on this one. Best I can come up with is Gruff Rhys from the Super Furry Animals!

Plus the Super Furry Animals recorded their first two albums in a small studio a couple of miles from my village!!

Not exactly Seattle I know !!!
    Cymru Am Byth

PJ albums, at the moment!! -
    1,Vs 2,Vitalogy 3,No Code 4,Yield 5,Ten 6,Backspacer, 7Pearl Jam 8,Binaural 9,Riot Act.

I'm from SC so we've only got Hootie and the Blowfish (eek).

but we've also got James Brown and Chubby Checker.
also Dizzy Gillespie, Edwin McCain, Crossfade, Marshall Tucker Band, and Eartha Kitt ("Santa Baby" is her most recognizable song) all come from South Carolina

I think I'm leaving some person/band out, though I can't put a name with them.

Besides for Neil Young, that is one sorry ass music scene. Canada just produces terrible band after terrible band. Why is it that Canadians just cannot make good music?

eh...There are some bad ones there and some good ones, and some mediocre. And that's just Southern Ontario, not all of Canada. BTW we disowned Alberta because of Nickleback.

And if you're not into The Tea Party, man, you're missing out. I even like Billy Talent despite the fact that they reek of emo-rock. You'll notice I purposefully left off Avril Levigne.
  • by a landslide. Most posted bands I've never heard before.

Texas owns country music, the list is a mile long. But for Rock music, all I can think of is:

    Toadies
    Pantera
    Buddy Holly
    Drownding Pool
bombs, dropping down, please forgive our hometown

Laughing out loud. It amazes me why such a liberal country puts out so much conservative radio friendly crap.
  • Michigan:

MC5 (coolest band ever, forget about it)
    Iggy Pop (Ann Arbor)
White Stripes (though they now hate Detroit)
    The Raconteurs
Grand Funk (second coolest bad ever, forget about it)
Marshall Mathers (not from Leave it to Beaver)
    Sponge (Suck)
Von Bondies (had one good song)
    Sufjan Stevens (over-rated)

Oh yeah, plus that whole MoTown thing.

hmmm, ok. I'll check out some youtube if I can. A lot of bands that try to make it here go to Austin and some to Denton. Seems to be the accepted art centers of this very red state.

and I guess I should include Stevie Ray Vaughn in the Texas group.

Your Hand In Mine, First Breath After Coma, and Memorial are good songs to start with. If you dont like this, you most likely wont like the band.

You really must not be picky about music to like that many bands. I dont even bother listening to average bands, I will assume that many of those are average bands.

But he is right about Arcade Fire (again, though Win is from America) the rest of those bands other than Tegan and Sara, Wolf Parade, Broken Social Scene, The New Pornograhers............. I have not heard of, and assume mediocrity at best.

They are in fact not "average" at all. I'm very picky about my music.....just not closed minded.

You feel it necessary to complain about the state of current music (or Canadian music in general) and then write off any new bands as "average" without giving them a listen/chance.....its no wonder you are stuck in your musical rut

How do you even have time to listen to that many bands just from one place alone? I listen to alot of music all the time and I can say that I do not have time to give that many bands a quality listen. I also listen to bands from different countries and like to listen to many records more than just once. I am starting to question whether you have even heard all of those bands.

  • I can't think of any at the moment, but Ben Watkins from Juno Reactor lives here at the moment which is good, lemme just get a list from wiki or something:

Wow, uhm Genesis P. Orridge was born here, he was the frontman for Throbbing Gristle who effectively invented industrial music.

    A:(

Is this the guy from the Movie DIG! That Genesis guy, er.. I heard he's a girl now.

Not to be rude at all, but seeing someone with oasisrule in their name saying someone else's preferred bands must be average is funny to me.

I dont have a state, but Mogwai are probably my favourite band from my home city.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

MMJ just flat out owns. They are becoming one of my all time favorite bands. Okonokos launched them in to the stratosphere as far as I'm concerned.
