Hey, I love Kurt, but how could you possibly put him above Cornell AND Staley?
hmmm good question? vocally Cobain is the weakest, but I like his lyrics. I change it, I was too quick with my answer. I listen more to Soundgarden and AIC, so this is a better list.

Lanegan
Vedder
Cornell
Staley
Cobain
I love his words too but frankly Stanley and especially Cornell are way better lyricists than he was. In any case I don't see putting him last as voting against him in this kind of thing.
Cornell and Staley are technically the best singers of the four, followed by Vedder with Cobain last. Cobain was a genius of a songwriter so would probably get the top position in that category followed by Cornell and Ed. Ed is the best lyrcist of the lot followed by Cornell and Staley.
The wind is blowing cold
Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?
Feels like were all alone
Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow
cornell's got the most overall talent, but he's too in too himself.
vedder is a close second.
staley's probably got the most interesting voice but then a bunch of mid 90s penis bands imitated it and sorta destroyed it's legacy.
kurt was the most in touch with punk rock, so i dig his intentions the most.
i kinda touched on this in another post, but like 6 years ago, all these bands were in my top 10, now i think soundgarden is the only one in the top 15. just dont really think they're all that special anymore.
Bring on AliceintheTempleofPearlGarden featuring Kurt Cobain
"Stunned by my own reflection, It's looking back, sees me too clearly and I swore I'd never go there again, Not unlike a friend that politely drags you down, down, down"
When you see me on the street, yell out "FAVO!!!"
I've been to alot of Pearl Jam shows; So fucking what.
Cornell was my introduction to the seattle scene so I have sentimental attachment to him and his projects. Some people don't like his cryptic lyrics but I can really relate to a lot of his stuff.
Ed has amazing lyrics but his voice is sort of screechy sometimes. Haven't yet heard a lot of Alice in Chains. Citing Cobain as a lyrical genius has become a rock cliche' of late.
whoever said scott weiland has got to be having a laugh. any 4 of those guys farts could out do his musical talent. he's a passable singer and i love purple but as far as i know, he dont write.
For leaving lanegan off, i berate the original poster
My list:
Cornell: best technical singer and songwriter overall and level as a live performer with eddie (both good and bad respects) getting better as a lyricist, he has written some v accessible stuff as well as cryptic. (say hello to heaven and the whole totd thing, anyone?)
also, the whole, he doesnt sing like its 1992 thing is getting really old, hes lost the top end of his range thats all. and the person who said hes too into himself-he's happier these days after beating alcohol addiction and depression, going through a divorce after longest relationship in his life, etc. sorry if you wanted him not to do that. you re confusing arrogance with contentment and confidence.
vedder: I love his voice, his lyrics are better than Cornell's and he's level as performer. As songwriter and vocalist, Cornell outdoes him though. I wonder what solo efforts would be like...
Cobain: Brilliant songwriter, adequate/chilling voice, wished he d realised his potential. the michael stipe collaboration would have been excellent. Great performer too. he is different to the other 3 though-nirvana had v little in common with other seattle bands soundwise after bleach. Its possibly unfaor to compare him.
Staley: Good voice, better performer, not much of a songwriter but when he did write them, you wanted more. Gets extra points for Mad season and unplugged. that was the nuts.
If id have included lanegan the man would be #2 behind cornell. Consistantly exciting and accurate performer, written very underated songs both with trees and solo. his voice is so good he can whore it out to people like greg dulli and josh homme. lyrics are poignant and varied too. He has this cool factor that the others dont-pretty inexplicable, anyone know what i mean?

I agree with this one. Vedders the best and cornell is talented but I find him annoying.

I put him over Cornell and Staley too. I did this because I love Nirvana, moderatly like Alice in Chains and don't like Soundgarden

3. Cornell (listen to his Unplugged in Sweden show. Simply amazing.)
4. Cobain (Huge drop from 3 to 4. I just can't relate to Cobain's music like I can the rest. Plus, I think he was the least talented of the group.)
2. Layne Staley/Jerry Cantrell- Their harmonies are absolutely heartwrenching.
3. Ed Vedder- Especially on "Footsteps", his voice is drenched in soul gravy.
4. Kurt Cobain- He had an original sound to his voice, but that's about all.
Ed has amazing lyrics but his voice is sort of screechy sometimes. Haven't yet heard a lot of Alice in Chains. Citing Cobain as a lyrical genius has become a rock cliche' of late.

Cobain
Cornell is the best vocalist ´´tecnically speaking´´ but the way he sing don´t like to many people as vedder or cobain does....
Layney voice is more powerful, creepy and soulful than all the others...
Cobain had a short range voice but the way he used it was great...
And mr.vedder is my favorite of all of them...
